02 || the life of a captive

"YUP, JUST ANOTHER DAY AT THE STAR DESTROYER BASE."

STAR KILLER BASE, FIRST ORDER-

1,917.

That was how many days that the First Order had kept Kyra captive.

1,917 days.

Five years and three months, give or take.

She had been living on the Star Destroyer base for the past year, before then staying on a ship that hopped from planet system to planet system in hopes of overtaking all of the moons and planets under the rule of the First Order.

Kyra had been a part of that conquest since the day that she had been found, forced to ensure that anyone with the capability to use some magical power called "The Force" was not able to do so. Of course, if there was someone found to be able to on a planet or moon, she was expected to make quick work of it.

Those four years assisting the First Order with their conquest left so much blood on Kyra's hands that she wasn't sure what to do with herself.

Every kill, every time she had to strike someone down in the name of the First Order was a mark against her own skin. A tally, inked into her blood so that she would never forget all of the harm that she had caused to the countless systems and planets they had ravaged.

But even then she wouldn't forget all the screams.

The dark days of her past were over now, however, the First Order believing that her use was not on the battlefield any more. No, her use was to discover a way for the Stormtroopers to have the same ability she did.

Which meant that she wasn't a mindless warrior anymore.

No, she was something even worse.

A test subject for whatever whims that the First Order desired to do, unable to fight against it.

Her days were no longer filled with the conquest of planet after planet, countless jump after jump into Hyperspace after the First Order set up their bases. Now, they were filled with testing, battling Ren to test the extent of her powers, and training.

What they were training her for? Kyra had no clue. She was confident that as soon as they cracked the code to her Force-less-ness she'd be killed.

At least there was some amount of peace and quiet in her life in the meantime. The quarters provided her with that solace at the very least.

The cold confines of her "quarters" ( which was more of a cell with countless surveillance cameras ) flickered to life, as it did every morning on the Star Destroyer base. The lights slowly turned on, and Kyra knew that her morning routine had to start all over again.

First, the meal that would be slid to her through a hatch in the wall. The familiar whoosh indicated that her food had been sent down the hatch on the other side of her room. Kyra gave a small stretch and a yawn as she climbed out from her cot, slowly and gracefully moving to the other side of the room, opening the hatch and taking her food out.

The hatch closed with a resounding dull sound as quickly as it could. The troopers had learned their lesson from the first time Kyra had tried to escape, making it up the food elevator hatch to the "kitchen", if it could even be considered that, making it to a hangar bay before being caught and taken in by Hux.

She had been starved for three days and beaten up in her training mercilessly after that.

Seeing the same old bowl of soup and hard bread on her plate, with a small flask of water, Kyra ate her food quickly and efficiently. There were better things to do than sit around and reminisce on memories.

There was no time to keep your head in the clouds anymore. Kyra had learned that lesson quickly.

Next, the clothes for the day. They had been tucked against the wall in a small neatly folded bunch, probably left there the night before when she had been thrown inside of her quarters. Moving towards the pile, Kyra saw the regular attire of loose fitting pants and a wrapped t-shirt with the First Order insignia branded on it waiting for her. The regular soundless shoes that she wore everyday were polished beside the clothes as well.

A small sigh escaped her mouth before she got dressed in an orderly manner, tying her hair back into a ponytail with a loose strip of cloth that she kept tied around her wrist. Slipping her shoes on silently, Kyra was ready for the day. Rapping on the locked door that kept her inside twice, the door slid open, two Stormtrooper escorts waiting for her.

"Again, huh, 4236 and 6978?" Kyra looked to the two guards at hand, recognizing them from two days before. "You two can't seem to catch a break from me, can you?"

These guards, Kyra was familiar with. On occasion, they were friendly enough. Better than the ones that would shove her down the hallways by gunpoint, warning her if she made any move out of line that she'd be another body on the floor. These two at least made some small conversation, letting Kyra walk free among them. Not to mention they were comfortable with her calling them by their last four digits instead of their full code.

"From you, Solani? Never." 6978 responded, an almost teasing tone in their monotonous voice as they held up the handcuffs. "Sorry, kid, but it's protocol. You know the rules."

"Yeah, yeah." She muttered, placing her two wrists behind her and binding them to her back. Hearing the familiar clink of the cuffs, Kyra glanced back at 978, who stared straight back at her. "Wish it could be different though."

"Ha." 4236 gave a small chuckle, shaking his head as he gestured for Kyra to start moving. "The day that it happens, Solani, is more unlikely for this base to ever be completed."

The trooper was true in that fact. The First Order had been laboring over this project for a year and a half now, and the base seemed to be nowhere near complete. There had been countless delays, some rumored to be by the Resistance stealing supplies or information, through Kyra was never one to believe them.

"I told you, you gotta stop calling me by that name. It's Kyra. Kai-ra. Not Sola, not Lani, or any of the other nicknames that the other shit for brains troopers give me. And most definitely not Solani. Ren and Hux's code name for me is not something I want to be called or remembered by." She groaned, starting to let her feet follow the familiar path to the testing facilities. "It brings back bad memories of a time I'd much rather forget."

"Phasma's orders were to call you by that name." 6978 responded back, his tone dull and mocking of the Stormtrooper leader. "We can't disobey her orders."

"No, because what would we do without her?" Kyra sarcastically fired back, taking a turn down another tunnel with a dissatisfied and fading smile. Taking another few paces forward, she saw the door to the testing facility, a frown slowly creeping into the edges of her expression.

"Well, boys, it looks like we've arrived."

"It appears so." 4236 agreed, moving to uncuff the young woman. Typing in the code to the door, the frame slowly sliding open, he gestured inside. "We'll meet you after you're done."

"Thanks for your pleasant conversation today, boys. Don't know what I would do without you." Kyra fired back, giving a mini-two fingered salute with her fingers as she stepped inside of the testing room. The door slid shut behind her with a resounding thud, a chair seated in the middle as always.

"Miss Ceydea, how wonderful for you to finally join us." A cool tone spoke, two figures walking out of the shadows. It didn't take long for the girl to identify the first person - Dr. Deftrine. The one who was hellbent on figuring out why Kyra had the ability she did.

"And who's 'we' today, huh?" Kyra fired back, arching an eyebrow at the doctor. If she could give the older man hell, she made it her goal every day in testing to do so.

"General Hux has so gratefully blessed us with his presence." The Doctor coolly responded, the two dramatically walking out of the shadows together. If Kyra was perfectly honest, the two were a bit much together.

"How wonderful." She sneered, staring at the two for a moment in awkward silence. She was waiting for one of the two to speak, and to her luck, one did.

"Why don't you sit down, Solani?" Hux sneered, a dissatisfied and unpleasant expression folding into his face as he continued to speak.

His expression slightly terrified Kyra, even though she knew that he wouldn't do much to her. He was nothing more than bark, with no bite to him. "If you insist."

Carefully moving into her seat, it wasn't long before a droid came by her left side, sticking a needle into her arm. Blood freely flowed into a tube inside of the droid, and Kyra did not flinch as it happened. The droid finished its job quickly and efficiently, leaving nothing but a small drop of blood from where Kyra had been poked.

"You aren't going to deal with that?" Hux taunted the younger girl, his eyes trained upon the blood drop upon the girl's arm.

"Nah. Didn't feel a thing." Kyra fired back, a cool gaze balancing her fiery tone inside of her voice. "What's the need?"

"If you two are done... bickering," The Doctor sneered, grabbing a tablet from an open table. "We're going to analyze the findings for today before you go into your next task."

Holograms came up in an orderly manner, showing statistics and signs that Kyra had gotten quite used to seeing every single day. Nothing new could be seen to her, but something showed quite interest to Hux and Deftrine.

"What's going on in the top quadrant? Those statistics don't look like anything we've ever seen before." Hux pointed out, the hologram zooming in on the desired area.

"It seems that it has discovered something new." Deftrine muttered, analyzing the code with an interest he hadn't shown in a long time. The glint in his eyes scared Kyra, quite frankly. "It seems a new mutation has appeared in her DNA. How fascinating."

"What does it mean?"

"Her immunity to the force seems to now imply that she can will it to be stronger or quieter when she wishes." The Doctor responded, his eyes glancing over to Kyra.

"Which means-"

"With the right tools, we can control it. And the girl can be an even more dangerous weapon than before."

"Excellent news. I assume that the Supreme Leader will want to hear these findings instantly." Hux seemed to glow with satisfaction, his chest brooding up like a stupid bird. "I'll inform him. Thank you for your contributions to the First Order today, Doctor."

"My pleasure." The doctor grinned back, gesturing to the droid to uncuff Kyra from her place on the chair and let her walk freely. "Please bring the girl to her escorts on the way out. There's no need for anything else today."

There was a nod from Hux, and he gripped Kyra's right arm fiercely, her tally mark tattoos visible form underneath her t shirt. "You still mark those foolish things on your body?"

Earning a glare from Kyra, the man let out another scoff. "To believe in something as foolish as the fact that you can honor those you've murdered in cold blood is not something I expected you to maintain. You will not been redeemed by anyone. Haven't you accepted that fact yet?"

Yanking her arm away from Hux's grasp, she sent him a withering glare, shoving her sleeve of her shirt back down to disguise the marks she had made. Walking out of the room, she made sure that Hux had walked far away before she allowed herself to converse with the troopers that were in front of her.

6978 seemed to sense the sour look on her face, and, it seemed, had heard a small bit of her conversation with Hux. As he placed the handcuffs back on her, he whispered her some small words of encouragement. "I think it's noble to do something like that. Shows you still have humanity, even if it's a small amount. You're better than all of us, Kai. He's just jealous."

4236 gave a gesture to his other trooper before talking aloud. "We're not headed to the training grounds today. I just got a commission that we're heading to Ren's floor today."

"Ren's floor? What the hell do they want with me there?"

"No clue, Princess." 4236 called Kyra by his nickname he had given her a few months back, after she had fainted from dehydration in his arms. (She still hated that nickname.) "But whatever it means, I wouldn't question it."

Giving a small and timid nod, Kyra let the two Stormtroopers lead her to the elevator shaft, where they waited in silence for the machine to arrive. The ding of the elevator indicated it had arrived, and the three walked in.

Making sure it was empty, and that no one else was coming, Kyra glanced both ways in the hallway before stepping in. The doors rattled to a close, and once inside, no one pressed a button.

"You think this is it?"

"I'm sorry, what Kai?"

"You think this is it for me?"

"Why'd you say that, Princess?"

"They found something today." Kyra rushed out, looking at the two expressionless people around her. Funny how she could trust them without even seeing their faces, and since they were a part of the people that had taken her away from her planet. "Something that's important- but I don't know how. If they figured out a way to duplicate the power I have-"

"Nothing's going to happen to you, Kai." 6978 assured, dropping his gun to his holster, no longer in formation. "You're Solani. They're not going to give up one of their most formidable weapons so easily."

"But that's all I am to them. A weapon. I'm disposable."

"Don't think that, Princess. You're a hell of a lot more than that, given that you're pretty damn smart and have escaped this place more than once." 4236 disagreed, shaking his helmeted head. "Plus, 6978 and I won't let anything happen. We might be on their side, but that doesn't mean we'll be heartless and watch from the sidelines as our favorite gal gets the boot."

"Thanks, idiots." Kyra snorted, trying to hide the tears forming at the edge of her eyes. Pressing the button that she knew let to Ren's floor, she flashed the two a quick smile. "Don't know what I'd do without you."

The two giving her a small nod of acknowledgement, the elevator doors shuttered open again, the dark glossy flooring and black color scheme indicating they were on their leader's floor. Escorting her out of the elevator, the two Stormtroopers were soon met by the man himself.

"You're dismissed. Leave Solani and I to talk." The blunt and clear voice of Kylo Ren demanded the two escorts, who obliged and stepped back in the elevator. "I'll call you again when she's ready."

Swallowing a gulp of air, trying to disguise her nerves in front of the man, Kyra stared at the Sith Lord in training for a moment. "No training today?"

"No." He agreed, starting to walk in a direction, Kyra scrambling to follow. There was something about the man that unsettled her still to this day, even after learning his weaknesses in sparring and fighting.

Even to that day, she hadn't snarked off to him or crossed him out of fear.

"I have a new task for you."

"And what would that be?"

"You're going to start going on missions for the First Order. It's time we show that stupid Republic and pesky Resistance what they're up against." Ren snarled, almost satisfied with the destruction he was about to bring about them.

"And what are they going to be up against?"

Kylo Ren's helmet turned to make eye contact with the 22 year old girl, a sneer smile growing from underneath the mask- even if Kyra couldn't see it.

"Isn't it obvious? They're going up against you."

Kyra stopped for a moment in disbelief, no, shock. It took her quite a while to process everything, and even with a moment to ponder it, she didn't even entirely understand what Ren was saying. "What?"

"You're going to be our newest weapon against the Republic and the Resistance."

Those words echoed in Kyra's ears, making her head spin with shock and confusion. She wasn't going to be killed, no, she was going to be used as a spy and agent for the First Order.

The man turned to her once more, his black gloves hand now holding a small device inside of it, gesturing for Kyra to take it.

"And we have your first mission."
