08 || to find a space girl

"IT'S TAKEN US FOUR YEARS TO GET ALL THIS INFORMATION FROM OUR SPY. DON'T MESS THIS UP."

RESISTANCE BASE, ILLENIAN SYSTEM-

It had been four years, and Poe had more information from Space Girl about the First Order.

But no information about her.

It had all started with that mission to Corellia, the information that they had gotten about the new Death Star as they called it, and it hadn't stopped from there.

Three months after that, Resistance members had spotted her in Bespin, obtaining some tibanna gas for some First Order mission. She hadn't said much there to give away anything to her identity, but she had left a canister of the gas behind.

The next was a mission five months after Bespin, seven months after Corellia. Coruscant had some droids that spotted  her in the midst of the city, reaching out to an old Empire contact in the midst of the bustling city. She had let the Resistance droids trail her the entire time, allowing them to record the entire conversation she had with the Empire contact, discussing something about "the new weapon". It didn't give them much, but the note was clear- this new Death Star was being built, and Space Girl was trying to thwart the construction of it.

Why? Poe didn't know.

Kijimi was next on the list of planets the First Order spy (if he could call her that, he had no clue what she honestly was for them- a runner? Agent?), showing up two weeks after Coruscant. Poe refused to go to Kijimi, but he had informants on the ground there that had supplied him information that Space Girl was in town. But this time, it wasn't for the new Death Star that was being built. This time, it was for the new Star Destroyers that they were building, and gathering the supplies to create the new cannons that would be on those ships.

Space Girl left that meeting with two copies of the hard drive she had received, giving one to someone that had been spying around her meeting place for Poe, giving it to them. "Try a little better with your spies next time, Poe Dameron." That was the message the pilot received when he got the hard drive.

She didn't show up on the Resistance's radar for another year after that. Poe could only assume that she was doing the dirty work of the First Order, working on their Star Destroyer bases and the ominous new Death Star base that she had informed them that the First Order was building.

When she did show up, it was on Shili, not on a search for something for the new Star Killer base. That time around, Space Girl didn't give the Resistance anything from the mission she had been on. Whatever was inside her pouch glowed (according to the Resistance member he had sent) but she was able to secretly give the Resistance member a new hard drive on the Star Killer base. There was no snarky comment from the girl this time, a sadness in her eyes that hadn't been there before. Reportedly. Poe hadn't been there to see it that time, off on a mission under his cover as a pilot for the New Republic, delivering some important senator he had no desire to remember to some other planet nowhere near Space Girl and her mission.

Poe ran into the girl next, a brush of hands and an exchange of information all that was allowed when they encountered each other on Naboo, in the heart of the city, midst the parade of a new Queen of Naboo. The bright and vibrant colors almost distracted Poe away from the apparent bruises and cuts littered on her face, the man only able to stop her for a moment. When the Resistance pilot did notice, however, he faltered. Grasping her hand, Poe's eyes pleaded for her to tell her what was happening, why she was helping the Resistance, to give him any information, but Space Girl didn't say anything. She carefully peeled away from  Poe's grip, melting back into the crowds. The only thing that Poe could remember for the rest of the trip was the expression on her face in response, begging him not to ask.

Mygeeto, Maridun, Lothal, Kessel, Hosnian Prime.

The list went on and on, many more of the encounters with Space Girl happening over the next two years. Swapping of information, glimpses of conversation, the tiniest of hand contact, and looks to tell a thousand stories were the only things ever exchanged between Poe and the double agent.

It wasn't long after the missions that Poe was going on that the young woman was now somewhat of a whispered myth throughout the Resistance. Some member of the Resistance attempting to gain more glory after going on one mission to track down Space Girl for Poe had started to spread the story, the double agent from the First Order becoming one of the biggest mysteries inside of the Resistance. No one knew if she was a real person attempting to be tracked down by the Resistance, or a story told to invigorate hope throughout the small numbers of the Resistance members.

Poe knew the truth.

And, currently, he was frustrated beyond his mind.

It had been four years, and he still didn't understand the girl's motives.

She supported the Resistance, feeding them information on what the First Order was doing. Yet she stayed with those bastards. Poe had seen what they had done to the woman, and he still couldn't understand why she kept doing what she was doing.

He had once whispered in her ear that she could escape it all, leave with him and help the Resistance, but Space Girl never did take him up on his offer. Poe had told her what Docking Bay, what Quadrant, everything.  But the double agent refused, leaving him confused on a docking station on Hosnian Prime.

Her motives on why she stayed with the First Order made him want to tear his eyes out sometimes.

Why would a girl stay with a tyrannical force that so obviously hurt her and struck her down?

Or, more importantly, what did they have on her?

Studying the hologram files, trying to see if he could find anything new that he hadn't seen, Poe came up empty handed again. Letting out an exhausted sigh, the Resistance pilot looked down at his small BB unit droid, who was helping him in scanning for anything new. "You see something of importance in there?"

When he got a sad tone in the response from BB-8, Poe gave a nod of disappointment to the droid. "Yeah, me neither. Leia's not going to be very happy with us." Trying not to let his frustration show as he looked down at his droid, Poe placed his hands on his hips as he stared at the ceiling, trying to wrack his brain for some answer that he could give to the General.

"Unless our mystery girl shows up again anytime soon, the General is going to pull us off of this case." Poe muttered, the only hologram left now one of Space Girl's face. It was a rushed side profile, captured by a member of the Resistance when he had spotted her upon Kessel, obtaining some sort of illegal black market object for the First Order.

Facial recognition didn't show anything, just like the first time. The First Order had wiped her clean from any registry that she had been a part of before she had joined them- if there was any registry to even begin with.

The two troopers that she had been with were a dead end too, a part of the program the First Order had started in which they invaded a planet and took the children, raising them to be trained soldiers from the day that they were born. A system much like the clones that used to be used in the days of the Republic. Their faces matched nowhere on any registry either.

Three mystery cases, and one motive.

Halfway through trying to solve one of the countless questions still left in Poe's mind, there was a rap at the door. Before Poe could even answer it, the sliding door whooshed open, revealing one of the General's messengers.

Their eyes meeting, Poe knew exactly what she was here for.

"I take it the General's already waiting for me in her office, huh?" Poe let out a small breath of air, dropping his hands from where they were on his hips. Seeing a nod from the messenger, Poe swiped the hologram projector from its place on the table, nodding at BB-8 to follow him to the meeting. "Tell her we're on our way."

There was another meek nod from the messenger, who then stepped aside out of the doorway to let Poe pass before running off to deliver her next message from the General. Watching her walk out of sight, Poe tried to quell the nerves in his stomach that came with every discussion with the General.

He had reported to her privately for over 5 years on missions now, but she still scared the shit out of him.

Weaving his way through the Resistance base, Poe saw countless people hustling through the place as if it was just a normal day, people ready to go out and help the Republic or just deal with a small skirmish with the First Order. Finally arriving at General Organa's office, Poe didn't even have to knock, the door already sliding open for him.

"General Organa."

"Poe Dameron. Got anything new for me?"

"Since last month? A little." Poe braced for her unhappy glare as he reported the news. "The double agent gave a Resistance member some new information on the Star Killer Base when she encountered them on Akiva."

"And what did the information tell us?" Leia stared expectantly at Poe from her seated position behind the battle strategy table, trying to plot out a course for what seemed to be a skirmish on the Outer Rim.

"That the Star Killer base is complete. And the weapon will bound to be used sometime in the next few weeks as a show of strength that the First Order is not to be messed with. They want to prove something by using it."

"They want to prove that they're bound and leaps better than the Empire ever was. That they will be." Leia finished Poe's thought, giving a heavy sigh as her hand went up to rest against the right side of her face. A saddened look suddenly came to Leia's face, concern folding into the creases of her eyes.

"Anything else?"

"We still haven't been able to find who this woman is in any registry. I've checked with my sources, and all they seem to know her by is what the First Order calls her by- Solani. Someone once said that she's Ren's personal agent, going on missions to benefit his agenda." Poe placed the hologram projector on the table, the information that he was talking about coming up on the screen.

"Which begs the question, why is she working with us if she's so closely associated to Kylo Ren?"

"Excellent question. And one that I still don't have the full answer to. From the looks of it, my best bet is that she grew up somewhere very different than the environment she now interacts in. I've encountered her on missions heavily bruised and beaten, which makes me assume that she's doing this to get back at the First Order. Something feels right to me about placing my bets on the idea that she's doing this out of vengeance."

"But you don't know for sure."

"I don't think anyone can. Until we can find out her name, where she came from, any of the basic details-" Poe stopped himself from rambling, finding himself pacing in a small line inside of the General's office. "We can't figure out anything more."

"I got to say, Dameron-"

"General, I know that you intend to stop the search for the double agent. We all know it. It's not a very important mission in terms of everything else that's been happening in the galaxy. But I'd like to ask-" Poe saw the glare flash across Leia's face, correcting himself quickly after. "Request that you let me have a few more months on this case. If this girl can help us get any more of the Star Killer base plans, we might be able to stop the massacre of what this new weapon does before it starts."

"Not to mention get to the map of Luke before they do."

"Yeah. And that." Poe added, something in the back of his mind reminding him that Leia's main goal at the moment was to attempt to find her long lost brother and bring him back to help the Resistance, stop the reign of the First Order before it escalated any further.

Before either of them could speak, the same messenger that Poe had seen earlier walked in through the door, the familiar whoosh of the object sliding open indicating her arrival. "Mister Dameron?" She asked, seeing him turn to look at her expectantly. "We've just received word of a cruiser much like the one the agent you've been tracking uses entering the system where Tatooine is located."

"That has to be her." Poe muttered, giving a small nod of thanks to the messenger, allowing her to whisper a message into Leia's ear before she left again in a hurry, probably to see what new information was being spread that needed to be given to the General.

Turning around to see Leia's eyes meet his, Poe saw a determined look in her eyes when she spoke next. "She said it might have to do with the map to Luke this time." Leia whispered, pleading with her eyes to have Poe go and investigate the situation one more time.

"Permission to go to Tatooine and obtain this information, General?" Poe rushed out his words, feeling an excitement begin to grow inside of him at the idea of seeing Space Girl again, the familiar rush of going on missions after her like these beginning inside of him again.

"Permission granted, Poe. Bring that information home to us. Bring him home to us." Leia spoke firmly, her last words dismissing him out of her office, Poe taking that order and quickly turning around to walk out of her office, BB-8 trailing not too far behind him.

Seeing his faithful droid following behind him, Poe gave a smile as he walked towards the docking bay, BB-8 chirping excitedly behind him as he started to slowly run towards his familiar X-Wing ship. "That's right buddy." Poe looked down at his droid friend as he let out another laugh, commenting on what BB-8 had just said.

"We got a Space Girl to track down."
