The last period of the day was gym. I walked there with Jace and Lauren because we all have that class together. Since it’s the first day, we didn’t have to change. We just sat on the bleachers and waited for everyone to join us.

It turns out that Dillon, Molly, Sean, Kayla, Alyssa, and a few other friends all chose our PE credit to be now. We all were in the same class too, the teachers work in pairs and that’s two classes so all together there is around fifty students in one ‘class’.

“Okay, tomorrow we’ll begin actually playing the sports so bring an outfit to change into.” One of our teachers was saying. They let us talk for the rest of the hour after all the rules were said.

“So are you nervous?” Lauren asked me. She learned about me trying out for the dance team only moments ago and was very excited.

“Kind of,” I admitted and Jace kissed my head.

“Don’t be, you’re amazing!” He said.

Lauren looked at me with a huge smile. I’m surprised she even thought this was real. I was never into PDA and now with Jace, it seems to be happening all the time. For this plan to proceed, it has too.

When the bell rang, I went into the locker room with Alyssa and pulled out the clothes that I figured I would have. I pulled my dress over my head and saw Kayla prancing around the room only in her panties and bra. Really? Unless there are some lesbians in here, no one wants to see that.

“You ready?” Alyssa asked as she put her brown hair into a high ponytail.

“Kind of…” I said. I grabbed my ipod then locked my bag in a locker. I also pulled my hair into a ponytail.

Alyssa put a hand on my shoulder and smiled. “You’ll do great, just one thing…”

“What?”

“Because this is tryouts, you have to dance in front of everyone.” She said.

“Oh that’s nothing—“

“No, that means dancing in front of the other dancers, the soccer players, and the cheerleaders.”

I groaned, “Do I have to? That will be so embarrassing!” I complained to her as we made our way outside. It was sunny, normal for California. We walked down to the turf field where the other dancers were stretching and a young woman was standing there with a clipboard.

“Melissa?” The woman lifted her head. “This is Peyton, she’s trying out today.”

Melissa smiled, “Oh, hello there! I’m the coach for dance and I hate when people call me by my last name so Coach Melissa is good. Do you have any specific music?”

I nodded and held up my ipod.

“Good, you’ll be fourth.” She wrote my name down and smiled.

Everyone made their way to the bleachers where the cheerleaders and the soccer players also sat. Jace smiled at me but I didn’t motion him forward. I sat next to Alyssa and Tessa then started stretching. There was a sophomore girl dancing to some Lady Gaga song. Her turns weren’t exact but overall she was okay. After her went another girl then a freshman boy who basically screamed ‘I’m gay!’ without actually doing so.

“Peyton?” Coach Melissa called from the track. “You’re up.”

I gulped and made my way down the stairs. Alyssa and Tessa wished me good luck and my brother hooted from the stands. I plugged in my ipod and walked to the middle of the field. I left my shoes where my ipod was and waited for my music to start.

“Wow, I can already tell she’s going to be horrible.” I heard Kayla cackle from the stands. I looked up at everyone and saw Jace and Dillon smiling at me. Sean was staring at me with a sad glint in his eye and Kayla was smirking. I grinded my teeth, she was going to eat her words.

The song “Cooler Than Me” By Mike Posner came on. I smiled and began my routine.

I lifted my head up and rolled my shoulder. I bent down then ran a hand up my leg, ending with a leap. I turned around and put my hand on my hips. My hand went above my head then I turned on my toes, now facing the crowd again. I kicked my leg up at the same time of the beat and went to the ground ending in the splits. I rolled a bit then kicked my legs out in front of me, then brought myself to a standing posture again.

It was a good jazz routine. I ended with a hair flip and people cheered from the bleachers. I smiled and ran off, grabbing my shoes and ipod.

“Good job,” Coach Melissa said and wrote things down on the clipboard.

I didn’t know if that was a good or bad comment. I walked up the stairs of the bleachers and Jace held his arms open for me to come over to him. I have to say, for this all being faked it really does seem real.

I sat down on the metal seat only to have Jace pull me onto his lap. He gave me a knowing smile before wrapping his arms around me.

“Wow Peyton! I never knew you could dance like that!” One of Dillon and Jace’s friends commented.

“I never really wanted to make it public…” I said and Sean’s eyes flashed to my face.

“Oh right, now that you’re with Harley you want to make all things public.” He said in a venomous tone. I rolled my eyes and leaned into Jace’s body. I felt his hand graze my bare side; remember that I’m in a sports bra and spandex.

Dillon stood up, his eyes flaring, “leave her alone. Just because she dumped your sorry ass that doesn’t mean that you can still influence her decisions.”

Sean just shook his head and went back to his misery. I wanted to go over to him and wrap my arms around his body, saying that all was forgotten. No, I couldn’t do that. Why? I wouldn’t—couldn’t—forgive him for this as much as I wanted to be with him away.

I felt Jace’s hand massage my lower back and I tossed him a confused look. My back my facing him therefore no one would see it. He smiled comfortingly and kissed my cheek.

Dillon groaned, “Not in front of me, please.”

“Why? You jealous that I have a girlfriend and you don’t?” Jace teased my brother. I laughed and put my head in the crook of his neck.

“You’re dating my sister,” Dill pointed out. “Oh yeah, I’m super jealous. I think I should go date Cara right now.”

This time it was Jace’s turn to laughed, “She’d never go out with you. She’s such a neat freak and quite frankly, you’re a dirty mess.”

Dillon just gave him a cocky grin, which confirmed his statement. His friend slapped him on his back like it was a huge accomplishment.

“Hey Dillon,” Someone purred. I rolled my eyes when I saw Kayla with her hands all over my brother.

He scowled and leaned away, he was probably the only guy in the school who would do that but hey, he doesn’t like sluts.

“Go away,” He murmured.

“I was just coming to say how hot you looked in your soccer… outfit.” She whipped her blonde hair behind her back and stared at me with a smirk.

She just wants me to get mad. She succeeded with Sean but this time nothing will happen with Dill. He hated her because he’s actually a decent guy… well, minus his filth.

“Okay, now go.”

She pouted then came over to where I sat with Jace, “Hey Jason, I like your hair today.”

He furrowed his eyebrows in confusion, “My name is Jace… It’s not a nickname.”

Kayla giggled then twirled his hair and he backed away, taking me alone. “Oops, sorry.” She walked away with her hips moving with every step.

I sighed, why couldn’t I be as confident as her?

I straightened up a little bit. Okay, this whole fake relationship is not only getting revenge on Sean, but it’s also boosting my self-esteem. I’ve noticed that in both my dancing and my social aspects. I talk to more people that I wouldn’t have before, I dress confidently, and so many other things.

Maybe this idea wasn’t a mistake…

“Dance team!” Coach Melissa called up into the stands when the last person finished their routine. “Front and center!”

“Bye,” I kissed Jace on the cheek and ran off onto the turf field. The soccer players and cheerleaders also had to go to their own practice.

I stood next to Alyssa as the Coach scrawled something out of the clipboard.

“All seven of you did great but sadly there are only three spots available on the team.” Coach Melissa started. I bit my lip; did I even have a chance? “After long thought, I have decided that Violet Pierce, Peyton Brandt, and Bradley Davis will be joining us for the season.”

Wait, did she say my name?

I smiled widely as the people that didn’t make it groaned. Alyssa patted me on the back while Coach shooed off the people that didn’t make it.

“Okay, so today we have enough time to at least get some of the moves down of the routine I came up with for the Welcome Back Assembly.” Melissa started.

She put us in a formation, me being near the front, and then demonstrated some moves.

“1, 2, 3, 4…” I kept dancing but I couldn’t help but notice the guy’s soccer team right next to us.

They were playing shirts verses skins. After looking out, I saw that Jace was most definitely a skin and my, oh my, did he look good. Sweat was down his shirtless body as he dribbled to the goal, he shook the goalie off and scored. A wave of shirtless guys started cheering and pounded him on his back. He turned around and his eyes caught mine, he wagged his eyebrows suggestively as I rolled my hips to Coach Melissa’s counting.

“Good job girls,” She said, making me turn away from Jace. “Take a break.”

We walked over to a couple of benches near the game the boys were playing. Coincidently, Jace was standing near the sideline while his team fought it out by his own goal.

“Holy shit, that guy is hot.” One of the new recruits, a freshman girl, said when Jace rolled his arms.

“Hey, don’t say that. That’s Peyton’s boyfriend,” Alyssa nudged the girl and she turned bright red.

“I’m so sorry!” She said to me.

I laughed it off, “It’s nothing. We all know it’s true.”

Tessa nodded dreamily. “Hell yeah, he’s really gorgeous. Wow Peyton, you’re so lucky.”

The other girls nodded and a gay freshman did as well. The only people that didn’t were the four guys that were straight. They of course were staring at the cheerleaders to our right.

All these people love Jace and would kill to go out with him… why did he agree to this? He has a million girls that would say yes in a second. He also never really dated someone. Don’t get me wrong, he doesn’t sleep around, but he also doesn’t sustain a long relationship.

“Don’t worry,” Jace smirked over at us. “I know that I’m ridiculously hot.”

The little group all started blushing. I laughed and winked at Jace.

“But really Peyton, you go out with the hottest guys! Jace and also Sean!” Another girl said but then she froze, “Well, until he dropped you for that whore.” She nodded her head to where Kayla was shaking her ass with the other sluts. “If you weren’t related to Dillon and you dated him then you’d officially had dated the three hottest guys in the school.”

I shrugged. Truthfully I’ve only dated one of them, Jace doesn’t count. But hey, what they don’t know won’t kill them.

“Okay team!” Coach calls to us. “Practice is over, I guess I lost track of time. Tomorrow we’ll have captain nominations and go over the rest of the routine. The assembly is on Friday and we also have a soccer game to dance at the week after.”

We all nodded and I looked over at the soccer field. Everyone started leaving but Jace mouthed something to me, ‘stay here.’ I nodded and took a seat on the bench, watching the hot guys run around and kick a ball.

Finally, they were done and all the guys walked over to where I was. Jace however, ran and gathered me into his arms making sure this whole display was so Sean could see.

“Ew,” I squealed and wiggle around. “You’re all sweaty!”

He laughed and pulled back, keeping his arm lazily across my shoulders. “So are you but I’m not complaining.”

He walked me over to where the boys were. They all stared at me like I was some sort of alien… I feel bad for interrupting their male bonding, if that’s what they call it.

“Dude,” Some guy said from the back. I couldn’t see behind the tall guys. “Your girlfriend is hot.”

I turned bright red and brought my head down a little bit.

“Dude,” Jace mocked. “Get your own girl.”

Dillon snickered and also came over and put his arm around me. “This is my sister, you mess with her and there will be consequences.” His eyes locked with Sean’s and I almost smirked.

“But hey,” Another guy said. “Wasn’t Peyton going out with Sean?”

I froze and stared up at Sean. His eyes pierced into mine but I held my ground until he looked away. He was always a coward, what did I ever see in him? I sighed. I thought I loved him.

“I’m with Jace now, that’s all that matters.” I said and to prove it I pressed my lips to his.

He seemed stunned for a moment but I let my hands wander to his bare chest as his tilted my head up.

“Break it up, break it up.” I pulled away to see a very fit man looking at us with an annoyed expression. “Harley, I don’t need your head to be in the clouds. I want you at your best for the game next week.”

Jace smirked at him, “Of course coach. I’ll do the best I can.”

The coach grunted thanks and stalked away. I turned to Jace, “So I’ll just get my stuff and you can drive me home?”

I nodded and he kissed me quickly. I skipped off to the locker rooms with a weird tingling across my entire body.
