welcome home
When I reached the normal looking chalet, I opened the door quietly. It was already night and I didn't want to wake up Sensei Pius. He was an old man, so he was in need of his sleep. I smiled. This man was like a father to me.
Of course I wasn't quiet enough. An old man with long white hair and thick, untidy eyebrows walked down the stairs slowly. His always awake clear blue eyes were stacked on me. "Welcome home, Rinji.", he greeted me happily. I took out my license and raised it into the air. "I passed!", I shouted full of joy. He smiled proudly. "Good. I knew you would do well.", he said. "For now you should go to sleep too. But tomorrow I wanna hear the story in every detail." I responded the smile on his face and followed him upstairs.
At the next morning we sat at the kitchen table and I recounted what happened during the hunter exam.
"The first part was very easy. We only had to follow the instructor, who was walking faster over the time. I guess we walked over 50 kilometres. But I don't really know because I stopped counting after a while. The only tricky thing in this exam was the walk through the moor of Numere, because the sight there was caused by mist very limited. We had to stay very close to the instructor. The second part was way more difficult. If the chairman haven't intervened then all of us had failed.", I said. Sensei Pius laughed heartily. "Really? What was requested?", he asked quite interested. "We had to catch pigs and cook them. But the instructors were gourmet hunter and one of them had very high standarts.", I answered. "Sounds like an unsolvable problem.", my sensei giggled. "But the chairman solved it. He said that we should do another exam. That was easier. We should get some very rare eggs.", I told him excited.
Pius smiled. He hasn't seen me like that often before. "And what about the other exams?", he asked me. I didn't let him say it twice so I continued speaking. "As the third exam we had to pass the so called trick tower. I got a very uncomplicated way, so it was no problem. I was the first person arriving.", I said proudly. Then I decided not to waste more time. "The next part was a hunt at an island. I didn't had to do that much. My target was already defeated by another candidate.", I told on,"and the last part included an elimination game in form of fights. That was quite funny."
Sensei Pius smirked in his own cute way. Only old senseis can smile that cute. "So it seemed that was too easy for you.", He stated amused. I shooked my shoulders and smirked awkwardly. Somehow he was right. It was way to easy. "Do you want another quest?", he asked provoking. How could I say no? Everything that brings my training forward was pleased. "What quest?", I asked smirking. "You will go to heavens arena tomorrow. And come back as recently as you reached the status of a floor master. This shouldn't be that difficult for someone like you. So I will give you another restriction. Don't kill anyone until you reach the 200th floor.", he explained my next steps. I nodded. That sounded like fun. "Okay. Sounds good.", I said.
This task was not really assassin like but I knew what he tried to effect. He wanted to give me the chance to gain experience without a really high risk. I think this was one of his best ideas while we trained together. I smiled.
"So back to the topic. You seem like you would like to tell me something.", he stated friendly. I smirked. "Yes. I made friends with some really strange people. For example a clown like guy. He was a nenuser too and probably really strong. And I think he is adorable in his own way. Then I met two kids around 12 years. They were very nice to me and one of them was very kind hearted and stubborn. The other is quite talented. And...yeah. There was another guy. He was very strange, but we had some sort of connection. At the beginning he wanted to kill me. But then we hang out together inside of a hole. It was weird.", I said and looked shyly to the ground while talking about Illumi.
Sensei Pius smiled. He was glad that his shy apprentice finally found some friend. Rinji was not very extrovert. She got along well by herself. But it was somehow also important to have some allies to rely on.
