Being Head Girl meant that I was one of the last people to sit down for dinner in the Great Hall. Regulus and I were in charge of getting the first years safely into the boats. The entire time of which was spent with Regulus shooting me dirty looks when he thought I wasn't looking.

He obviously has a problem with me. Either that or he's still pissed off about me walking in on him and Emma in the club bathroom over the summer.

When I finally got to sit down next to my friends, I was practically ready to fly off the handle because of how annoying Regulus Black is.

"Merlin, I'm starving," Maggie complained as McGonagall called another first year up to be sorted.

I nodded in agreement, "Me too. Plus I'm pissed off at Black, he is such a cocky motherfucker. It's like he's constantly trying to start a row with me or get a rise out of me."

"You better get used to it," Emmeline commented, "You're stuck with him for a whole year."

"Please don't remind me."

Maggie leaned in closer to me and whispered, "Don't you think he's a bit attractive though? I can see why so many girls fancy him."

I smacked her in the arm. "Godric, I can't even get past how much of a prick he is, much less think about whether or not I find him attractive."

Maggie rolled her eyes, "Well I had to ask."

After what seemed like the longest sorting ceremony ever, everyone was seated and plates filled to the brim with all sorts of food appeared on the table. I was quick to fill my plate up with food and start eating.

Just when I thought I couldn't eat anymore, pudding appeared on the table.

"It's like they're trying to get me fat," I mumbled, grabbing a slice of cake.

Emmeline laughed, "I seriously wonder how we're all not fat, they probably cast a spell for fast metabolism on the food."

Maggie dropped her fork and looked at Emmeline shocked, "Wait, is that a thing?"

"Miss McKinnon?"

Startled, I turned around to see Professor McGonagall standing behind me with her arms folded behind her back.

"Hi Professor," I replied, setting my fork down.

"I require you and Mister Black to meet me in my office after dinner to go over the new rules for patrolling this year."

I nodded, "Of course, Professor."

McGonagall didn't say anything, she just smiled softly before walking toward the Slytherin table. I watched as she spoke to Regulus, who met her words with quick nods and what looked like a 'thank you'.

"It feels so quiet without the boys," Emmeline commented, looking around the table. "I keep expecting the four of them to run into the Great Hall while Filch chases after them."

I pushed my plate away, "I know, it's weird without them here, same with Marlene, Lily, and the whole lot of them."

"It's too quiet," Maggie added.

Jack Trouche, who was sitting a few feet away from Maggie turned around, scooched closer to us. "Are you talking about how quiet it is?" He asked, stealing a biscuit off of Maggie's plate.

"Yup," I replied.

Thomas Mackay and Samuel Wright, who were sitting with Jack, joined in on the conversation.

"Meredith, is it true that Black is Head Boy?" Sam asked.

I nodded, "Unfortunately, look at his robes."

The six of us all turned towards the Slytherin table. Sure enough, a shiny silver pin was attached to his black and green robes.

"Godspeed, Meredith," Thomas said solemnly.

Over the last few years, I've actually gotten to be pretty good friends with the three boys. After they actually learned how to talk to women without turning as bright as a tomato.

I've always been the closest with Jack. I consider him my best friend.

Dinner ended shortly after, and everyone cleared out of the Great Hall as the Prefects tried to wrangle all of their first years to take back to their respective common rooms.

I slipped out of the Great Hall and said goodbye to my friends as they went to Gryffindor Tower and I went the opposite way to McGonagall's office on the first floor corridor.

When I got there, Regulus was waiting outside, leaned back against the cobblestone wall. He didn't even look up when I neared him.

"You interrupted me earlier," He mumbled, looking sideways at me.

I leaned against the wall across from him, crossing my arms. "Sorry," I replied, "But if I remember correctly, you cut me off first."

Regulus scoffed at me, looking at his watch irritatedly.

Thankfully, Professor McGonagall came rushing down the corridor, smiling softly at the both of us.

She unlocked her office door and gestured us inside, before following us in and shutting the door behind her.

"Please, sit," She said, pointing out two plush armchairs in front of her desk.

Regulus sat down, looking irritated that he had to be here, and I sat in the other armchair.

"We're trying to promote inter-house unity this year," McGonagall began, "Which means that the two of you are also involved in that. I don't care if you hate each other with every fiber of your being, but when you are seen as Head Boy and Girl, you will get along."

"Yes, professor," Regulus mumbled, giving me a sideways glance.

McGonagall handed each of us a piece of parchment. "These are the patrol pairs for the year, no changes will be made, and that's final."

I scanned the list to see that all of the Prefects were patrolling with someone who's not from their house, like we were originally told. I frowned when I saw the last pair.

"We're patrolling together?" I asked, gesturing at Regulus.

"Yes, Miss McKinnon," McGonagall replied, "This rule includes you and Mister Black."

Regulus frowned at his paper.

Wonderful.

"If you don't have any questions, that will be all. I look forward to this year, you both show a lot of promise as leaders."

"Thank you, professor," Regulus said, getting out of his chair.

I followed, heading towards the door, "Thank you."

Closing the door behind me, I followed Regulus back into the main corridor.

There was nobody in sight, everyone was already back in their common rooms. This meant that we were alone in the corridor which was filled with utter silence.

"Will you at least try to play nice this year?" I questioned.

Regulus smirked, "I'll try my best, McKinnon. Don't get on my nerves though."

"I'll try my best, Black," I replied. "But sometimes it's just too fun to see you pissed off."

"Oh shove off," Regulus responded. "It's getting late, go back to Gryffindor Tower, princess. We wouldn't want you getting caught up.

I rolled my eyes at him, "I'm not scared of your little sidekicks."

"Hm, but you're scared of me?"

"You wish," I teased, "Now go back to the dungeons, you've probably got some people waiting on you."

Regulus made a point of hitting my shoulder with his own as he brushed past me, heading towards the dungeons.

"You better watch that mouth of yours, McKinnon."
