Chapter 31 - The Morning Surprise
*NOT EDITED*
Chapter 31
---
The next day, I woke up to the sound of pots and pans banging in the kitchen. The sound was so intense and loud, it was as if whoever was in the kitchen was actually standing right beside my bed.
Seeing that it was impossible to go to sleep again, I grumpily left the bed, brushed my teeth, and stormed downstairs to give the person a piece of my mind. And it wasn't going to a piece of cake, I tell you.
"What in the name of God are you doing?" I asked.
Reece gave me a 'duh' look. "Oh, I'm just hunting elephants- What do you think I'm doing? I'm cooking."
"More like having a wrestling match with the pots," I muttered to which she shot me a look, "where's everyone else?"
"Damon's still sleeping, and your parents are out."
I turned in my chair to see Sarah walk in. She had a big smile on her face as she took a bite of her apple. How can morning people be so . . . morning-y?
"No, Damon woke up because of the racket in the kitchen. Seriously, Reece, ever since you came I haven't been able to sleep or more than four hours." Damon walked in with a groan and only sweatpants hanging low on his waist.
"Ew, go put a shirt on," Reece and I said simultaneously.
He ignored us and opened the refrigerator's door, chugging down orange juice from the carton. I twisted my face in disgust as some of it spilled on his chin.
"You're revolting, Damon. I was going to drink from that," Sarah said.
"You still can, what are you talking about?" He pretended to be clueless as he put it back in the fridge.
She narrowed her eyes at him before throwing her apple at his chest. Yet, he picked it up from the floor and took a bite.
"Guess, I'm not having breakfast at all," she said with a sarcastic smile, "I'm going for a run."
"So, what are your plans for today?" He asked as he leaned against the counter.
"Binge watching some tv show probably," I said, eating my Greek yogurt.
"Good, cancel your plans losers. We're going to have a Disney marathon," Reece said.
"Oh, come on, you were serious back then?" Damon asked.
"Of course, I was. Let's watch That's So Raven, all three movies of High School Musical, Wizards of Waverly Place-"
"Oh, and don't forget Suite Life on Deck," I said excitedly.
"Let's watch 'em all," Damon said as he walked to the cabinet under the sink.
"What are you doing?"
He didn't answer and opened it to reveal . . . heaven.
It was a cupboard of all types of candy—Sour Patch Kids, Sour Punk, Kit Kat, Pringles, Licorice, and more.
My eyes widened at the beautiful sight. "How long has this been here?"
"Not too long. We'll eat them while we're watching." He grinned and tried to hold the bunch in his hands. I tried to help him and ease his struggle by grabbing some in my own hands.
"Perfect! Screw breakfast, let's go." Reece clapped her hands excitedly and followed us up the stairs.
"Wait, which room are we going to?" I asked.
"Damon's room smells like a fish market, so let's go to yours," Reece said.
"Hey, it's not that bad!" Damon argued.
"Let's not lie to ourselves now, Damon." I patted his arm and pushed my door open.
We wasted no time in starting the TV and chose to watch Mulan first. It was, by far, my favorite Disney movie. The way they showed that women could do everything that men could just as good really made me happy. And I've had this crush on Li Shang, the male character, ever since I was 10. I mean, come on, have you seen those muscles and that deep voice?
"Oh, that's my jam guys!" I said, jumping on the bed when the part where they all started training harder came on. The song 'I'll Make A Man Out Of You' started and Damon jumped on the bed as well.
"Let's get down to business . . . to defeat the Huns!" I sang.
"Did they send me daughters when I asked for sons!" Damon continued, gesturing with his hands as he acted dramatically.
"You're the saddest bunch I've ever met, and you can bet before we're through." Reece put on a serious face on as she sang.
"Mister I'll make a man out of youu!" we all sang together before falling back on the bed in heaps of laughter.
We watched the rest of the song, laughing as the part where the man lit his own self on fire came up and when the other one fell down, taking the rest of the men with him.
Ahh, this will never get old.
As usual, I cried when Milan ended up saving her town and proving everyone wrong. I also cried when Li Shang found out about her scheme, but they ended up happy anyways. I tried to push the thought that this was similar to what I was planning to Ryder aside, but it ate me away until the end of the movie. No matter what I did, this always came up to haunt me. I tried to pretend that none of it was happening and that Ryder and I were just dating happily, but it never worked.
After Mulan, we watched The Little Mermaid, a couple episodes of Wizards of Waverly Place, and Suite Life on Deck. We were halfway through an episode of Suite Life on Deck and we had eaten almost half of the candy when Elyse walked in.
I paused the episode so we'd be able to listen to her.
"What are you guys doing?" She eyed us with an amused expression.
"Binge watching Disney like I promised," Reece replied, her mouth full of black licorice.
"Aren't you guys a little too old for this?" Dad asked with a laugh, standing next to Elyse.
"We're never too old for Disney, dad," Damon scoffed, popping a gummy bear in his mouth, "but unless you're going to watch with us, please leave. I'm growing older by the second."
Elyse laughed before leaving the room with dad.
"They're just jealous because we're having the time of our lives," I said.
"Mhm," Reece agreed, pulling the remote from my hand and playing the show.
As we watched more, I grew nostalgic for the old days of when we were younger. All my worries were if Hannah Montana would choose Jesse or Jack. No end-of-term exams, or the random pop quizzes, or the college problems. It was the life, man.
"Guess what? Dad said that there might be a possibility that I can go with you guys to Cali," Reece said.
"No way!" I exclaimed, my eyes wide.
"Yes, way!" Reece laughed. "But don't get your hopes up too high, he said it's a small possibility."
"It'd be awesome if you came." Damon sighed.
"I know," she said sadly.
"Let us not ruin the mood. Stay happy kids and think of that later," I said and turned around to watch the show with them.
"Who did you like more back then, Zach or Cody?" I asked.
"Zach, but have you seen Cole Sprouse now? Just his face gives me the feels," Reece said dreamily.
I nodded in agreement. "I know, right."
"I'm trying to watch Zach score a girl, guys. Shut up," Damon said to which I pushed him. He fell back on the bed, but the snake managed to pull me with him.
"Ugh, you're topless and smell like orange juice. Get away from me." I groaned.
"Never!" He wrapped his arms around me and I tried to pull free, not wanting to smell him.
"Help me, Reece!" I exclaimed.
"Nope, if you're going down, that doesn't mean I should, too. I prefer to stay clean." She backed away from us even more and as I was about to cuss her out for being a traitor, Damon started tickling my sides.
"No, stop, you know I-I hate th-that," I said in between laughing hysterically.
"Exactly!" he replied, relentlessly tickling me.
I nudged Reece with my foot and tried to make her help me, but the traitor just gave me a glance before looking back at the tv.
Oh, I'm so getting her back later.
"Damon, stop!"
"Admit that I'm so hot that it hurts to look at me."
"Guys, can you keep it down. I'm trying to watch here. Gosh, so inconsiderate." Reece shook her head.
"It hurts to look at you because you're so ugly!" I said, trying to breathe from laughing so hard.
"Not the right choice, Ash."
I groaned at my stupid, big mouth and tried harder to get away from him. Just as he was about to start torturing me again, the doorbell rang making us all stop in our tracks. Nobody ordered any food since it was still early in the morning, and no one from our friends would be coming here at this time.
I quickly hopped out of bed and ran down the stairs, happy to finally have escaped from Damon. Karma's a bitch, but I'll still be getting him and Reece back later.
Before I opened the door, I silently thanked whoever it was behind the door for saving me. And when I did open the door, my jaw dropped to the floor.
I can't believe it. I really can't believe it.
"Cameron!" I exclaimed as I rushed to hug her.
"I've missed you so much, Ashie-pie!" she replied, taking me all in.
"Ash, who is it?" Elyse called from upstairs.
"It's Cameron, our sister!" I replied with the biggest smile on my face.
