It felt like it took even longer to make our way back. We stopped of at the Adelaide Oval and slept there the night. We then went back out heading towards the bridge. The bridge looked almost complete when we got there. I think everyone was working on supporting the bridge even more to make it stronger while we were gone. The main reason we had to work on the strength of the bridge is because one day maybe a horde could walk over it collapsing the bridge, and destroying all we've done.

Megan hoped off the horse first and Anastasia and I both got off at the same time. I messed Megan's hair up.

"Nice riding" I said.

Megan laughed. She gave me a hug and walked back over to her friends. Anastasia walked over to me.

"So, we gonna say anything about the horde?" Anastasia asked.

"No let's just keep this between us for now. I don't think it's anything to be concerned with. I was thinking about it. Maybe they heard a sound and they couldn't figure out which way it was. I don't know that's the only explanation I can think of" I said.

"I hope you're right. We're going to have some trouble if zombies are evolving" Anastasia said.

Anastasia and I hugged each other and she walked off to work on the bridge. I stood still and looked at the bridge. Everyone looked so happy building it. I smiled. I felt like we are going to do great in the future. I feel like we could maybe bring back a little of what was before all of this.

I turned to walk to the camp. I saw Samantha.

"Daddy!" Samantha yelled.

She stood up and ran to me. She hugged me.

"Love you dad" Samantha said.

"Love you too" I said.

I held her hand and we both walked back to Ana and Brooklyn. We both sat down.

"Hey" Brooklyn said.

"Hi. How was she?" I asked.

"She was great. No issues at all" Brooklyn said.

"That's good" I said playing with Samantha's hair.

"Any luck with Luke?" Ana asked.

"Nope. Nothing, I think we might have to look somewhere else. There's no sign of anyone out there" I said.

"You will find him. Unless he finds us first" Brooklyn said.

"Yeah" I said.

We didn't have much to talk about. I was just sitting there trying to think of things to say.

"I'm gonna go check up on things real quick. Could you look after Prince, please?" Ana said.

"Of course" I said.

Ana smiles and walked towards the bridge. Brooklyn was looking straight at me. I looked at her and she quickly looked away.

"Um you've got something on your cheek" Brooklyn said.

"I do. Where" I said rubbing my cheeks trying to find it.

"Here. Can I get it?" Brooklyn asked.

I nodded. She licked her fingers and wiped it off my right cheek.

"It was just a bit of blood" Brooklyn said.

"Oh thank you. You still ok with looking after Samantha?" I said.

"No I hate every second of it. Nah. I'm just joking. It's fine really she's a good kid I like looking after her" Brooklyn said.

"Ok. Cool" I giggled a little.

She put her hand on my leg. Her hand was cold this time. I tried to ignore it. She slowly moved closer to me until her shoulder was against my shoulder. She faced me and looked into my eyes. She closed her eyes and slowly went in to kiss me. I moved my face away and she opened her eyes and moved away a little.

"I'm sorry. I just. Ok Sam. I really like you. You probably know already but I really like you, and I would love to be your, I guess boyfriend" Brooklyn said.

I pat Samantha's back. Luckily she was too invested in playing with her toys that she didn't hear. Or else it would of been very embarrassing.

"I'm very sorry. You know how I am with Hunter. I miss her and I still love her, I feel like if I get with another person I would be cheating on her. It just doesn't feel right. You're a beautiful woman but I don't think I can get into a relationship yet. Not yet at least. I'm sorry" I said.

"No it's ok" Brooklyn said.

I rubbed her back to make her feel better. She looked kind of upset.

"Hey could you keep an eye on these two I wanna check on the bridge as well. I'll be back" I said.

"Ok" Brooklyn said.

I stood up and walked to the bridge. Right now they were putting nails into some of the pieces of wood to make it stronger and they were putting up some more pieces of wood to make a sort of triangle shape along the sides of the bridge. I saw someone preparing some wood for the bridge floor. They were making long strips to run across it so wagons didn't bump around so much when crossing. I saw Ana standing with Kane admiring the bridge. I left them alone to talk and walked over to Taia, Erin and Alice.

"Hey. How are things?" I asked.

"Things a great. I mean look at this thing" Erin said pointing to the bridge with both of her arms.

"People here are getting along really well" Taia said.

I nodded.

"So when this bridge is finished you will host the fair?" Alice asked.

"Yeah. That's the idea. Hopefully a day or two after so people can get their stuff together for trade and also to rest" I said.

"Hey where were you yesterday? You missed your daily speech" Erin said.

"I was looking for Luke again" I said.

"Oh. Well you better give a speech today because I need that shit for motivation. It's like my coffee for the morning without the caffeine and hot water" Erin said.

"I will I promise. Well I guess I'll talk to you all again later" I said waving goodbye.

I saw Lauren as well who was nailing something in. I walked over to her.

"How are you going?" I asked.

"I'm fine. How are you?" Lauren asked.

"Yeah I'm fine" I said.

"I can't believe how good things are at the moment. I mean we have so much freedom now. We haven't been attacked for so long now. I feel so safe" Lauren said.

"Only if Hunter could see this" I said.

"She can" Lauren said smiling.
