THE NEXT DAY

Luke and Tyler were meant to get back today. I was anxiously waiting at the guard tower for them to arrive. They were a bit late but they were probably just searching through extra houses. I heard someone climbing up the ladder. It was Brooklyn. She sat down next to me and looked out at the road with me.

"You know you don't have to wait for them. They will be back, and when they are back they will come straight to you to let you know" Brooklyn said.

"I know. I just need to be cautious. I want them to come back" I said.

"Alright. You do what you want to do" Brooklyn said.

Brooklyn took a long deep pause breathing in. She then breathed out.

"I came up here to see you but it was manly because I still remember what happened. I can't get it out of my head, I think the best way of getting it out is to talk to someone but the only person I can talk about it with is you. Because you were there with me" Brooklyn said.

I tried to keep it back but it all came to me. I remembered what I did. What I had to do. A year ago. The thing that changed my mind forever about killing people.

"I don't really like to talk about it, but if it helps you... then fine. Let's talk" I said.

"I just can't get their faces out of my head. After what we did to them" She said.

"All that goes through my head when I think about it is that we had to do it. It was either us or them. We couldn't just stand still and let them kill us. We had to react back and defend ourselves. But obviously it's had an effect on me as well" I said.

She put her hand on my leg. I looked down at her hand on my leg. It was warm. It reminded me of Hunters hands. I quickly stood up and walked to the edge of the watch tower.

"I'm sorr.." She said as I interrupted her.

"Don't be. What we did we will never forget. There's no point in even trying" I said.

I slowly looked up and saw Tyler limping towards the gate and all of a sudden a horde behind him came into view.

"OPEN THE GATE!" I yelled.

The gate was opened and I quickly climbed down the ladder. I grabbed an axe from the armoury because I didn't have my holster with me again. I quickly ran towards him and grabbed him. He looked petrified. I put my hand around his shoulder and basically dragged him back inside. I saw a zombie coming towards us from the side I quickly let go of Tyler and swiped my axe at its head, blood splattering everywhere. I grabbed Tyler again and kept walking.

"move out" I heard something whisper.

"Excuse me?" I said.

Tyler looked at me confused. He quickly looked forward and we kept moving. We got in through the gate and Cooper quickly closed it. Brooklyn quickly ran over to me and helped me carry him to the infirmary. Apparently Lauren was gonna become a doctor so she's basically our doctor since we let her out. We put Tyler onto one of the hospital beds. His eyes opened wide and he looked at me.

"THEY WERE TALKING! THEY WERE TALKING! I'M GOING INSANE! PLEASE HELP ME! THEY ARE TALKING!" Tyler yelled.

"Who's talking?" I asked.

He rolled into a ball and started whispering to himself random sentences.

"how many of them? one is in the car. circle them. circle them. circle them. circle them" he kept whispering over and over again.

"Hey Tyler you've got to calm down buddy. Where's Luke?" I asked.

"LUKE! I HAD TO LEAVE HIM! HE TOLD ME TO LEAVE HIM! circle them. circle them. circle them" Tyler said.

"I'll looked after him" Lauren said.

I stepped backwards stepping out of the infirmary. Brooklyn was following me. I walked up to my room and put on my holster to take out the horde. I walked down with Brooklyn holding her hatchet.

"Who do you think he was talking about?" Brooklyn asked me.

"I don't know. I have no idea how it would be possible if a zombie would talk so I'm thinking maybe something bad happened between them and another group of people. Maybe he's just I don't know panicked or scared" I said.

I walked up to the gate.

"Alright Cooper open the gate" I said.

"You sure you got this?" Cooper asked me.

"I've got Brooklyn so I've got help" I said.

Cooper opened the gate and two zombies walked in. I took out my two knifes from my holsters on my ankles and stabbed them both in the head. They both fell to the ground as I took out another two. It was becoming so effortless as I can easily stab through their skulls to their brains with one hit. Soon enough I took out the small horde and noticed that Brooklyn was just admiring how I just did it all by myself.

"You didn't leave any for me?" Brooklyn smiled.

"Yeah. Sorry about that. I guess I just got a bit carried away" I said.

Brooklyn and I both moved the bodies out and put them into a small pile. We were going to burn them later and further away from our safe zone. We walked back in and I walked straight back to my bedroom. I got changed into warmer gear and walked outside.

"What are you doing?" Brooklyn asked.

"I'm gonna go look for Luke" I said.

"Can I come?" Brooklyn asked.

"I'm sorry but I have something I want to talk to Gabriella about. But I promise next time" I said.

Brooklyn agreed with me and I walked towards Gabriella.

"Hey Gabriella. Luke is still out there, and I was wondering if you would like to come with me. To find him" I said.

Gabriella slowly looked up at me. She nodded and stood up.

"Ok. I'll just get my things" Gabriella said walking off towards the armoury.

I walked with her to the armoury and waited for her to grab her things. We then walked to the front gate.

"Open it up" I said.

Cooper opened the gate up. Gabriella and I both walked out walking past the corpses of the zombies I took out before.
