Chapter 29
Isabella and I quickly climbed down the watch tower. We both had to dodge past a few zombies. As we dodged past them I looked back to see if Isabella was alright. I saw a zombie grab her. I quickly pulled out my revolver and shot at the zombie. But it was too late. The zombie took a large bite out from Isabella's left shoulder. As the zombie fell from me shooting it in the head more zombies swarmed in and grabbed Isabella. She was eaten alive. I looked on in horror.
"Isabella!" I yelled.
I didn't have time for tears or emotions. I quickly made a run for it. Running from the horde. I saw Samantha running up to me.
"What are you doing?!" I yelled.
"I don't want to leave you" Samantha said.
I quickly picked her up. She dropped her bear as I ran towards our bedroom.
"My bear!" Samantha yelled.
I looked back as the horde stepped over her bear. I faced forward and ran up the stands. I quickly turned the door knob. As the door swung open I saw Gabriella, Ana and Lauren all holding knives ready to attack. They realised it was me and put their knives down. I put Samantha down and closed the door. I then locked it. I looked at Samantha.
"What did I tell you?" I said frustrated.
"I didn't want to go in without you dad. So I told Ana, Lauren and Gabriella to go to our bedroom" Samantha said.
I hugged her tightly. I looked around the room and saw that Gabriella had Stella in her arms and Prince was by Ana. Lauren was standing in the middle of the two. Ana looked very distressed and guilty. I know she probably still felt like this was her fault. I then remembered Isabella and a tear went down my cheek.
"Who got out?" Ana asked.
"I don't know. All I know is that Isabella didn't make it. I tried. But she got eaten alive. It just moved all too fast" I said.
"The horde was stronger then we thought" Lauren said breathing in loudly.
I sat down in front of the door and leaned against it. I rested my head onto my knees and closed my eyes. I could hear the zombies moaning outside. A few were banging at the door trying to get in.
"Mummy I'm scared" Prince said letting out tears.
"We all are sweetie, you just have to be quiet and calm down" Ana said.
Prince nodded and grabbed onto Ana's leg. He was very scared. But compared with Samantha, they are very different. Even though Prince was also born into this world during the zombie apocalypse somehow Samantha turned out different. I am kind of jealous of Ana for having a kid that's scared. I mean it's great that Samantha isn't scared but it's good to get emotions out, and it's like Samantha doesn't have any.
"What do we do now?" Lauren asked.
Everyone looked at me. I slowly looked up. I was clueless. I had no plan. I needed more time to think.
"I don't know. I can't think of anything. There's not many options. We either stay in here and wait for the horde to leave, but that may take a while and they may never leave. If that happens we will die from hunger and thirst before we were eaten alive. Or we could try to make a run for it, and somehow get through them" I said.
Everyone was silent trying to think.
"What if we wait. I mean the Whisperers have to leave at some point right? If they do leave they would take their horde with them as well" Gabriella said.
"Even if we do wait that long there could still be lots still on the oval. There's no sure way we know of. Let's just wait a couple of hours until we think of a solid enough plan" I said.
Everyone nodded and agreed.
"I can't wait that long" Prince said looking at Ana.
"You're gonna have to, Prince. Trust me. Everything is going to be alright" Ana said kissing Prince on his forehead.
I closed my eyes and tried to think. This room only has one exit so there won't be many ways to escape. Fighting our way out wouldn't be a smart choice either. With this many zombies we would get completely ripped apart. I was completely out of ideas. I couldn't think of anything. I looked up as Gabriella grabbed a blanket to wrap Stella in. I looked at everyone's faces. They all looked hopeless. I was hopeless. Lauren sat down on my bed and looked at the floor.
"Before all of this when I was younger, my mother would read me a story. It was a story about a rock that was stuck in the middle of a road. This rock would cause people misery, anger and pain. Horses would hit it and break their legs. Wagons would lose control and topple over, and people would trip on it and break their necks. But one day a little girl who was as poor as could be decided to dig the rock out. It was deep in the ground and it took the little girl about a week to dig. After suffering from her hands bleeding constantly, she finally removed the rock from the road. But little did she know that underneath that rock was gold and riches she has never seen before. All of a sudden she wasn't so poor anymore. It was said that a wealthy man put the riches under that rock so someone with a heart could come and dig up that rock. That's us right now. We can't give up. We have to keep digging until we get out of here. We can't just stop now" Lauren said.
Everyone looked at Lauren and nodded. We knew what we were facing out there. We knew what we were up against. We knew we had to keep fighting no matter what.
