It was time. I could feel the mood in the air. Everyone was scared because it was time for Mr. Harris to choose the next group of students to go for supplies. Only one person returned last time. But she didn't mentally return. She changed. She saw all three of her friends die. Right in front of her. I would never know what that feels like.

Mr. Harris was angry that she didn't bring back a single crumb. I don't blame why she didn't bring anything back. She couldn't. The things she explained to me yesterday. The things she went through. I couldn't even imagine it.

I was walking with Alleigh and Kiara down the hallway towards the STEM building. Mr. Harris called us because he had an announcement. Everyone knows what the announcement is.

We made into the STEM building and we all waited for Mr. Harris to begin. He was standing out the front tapping his fingers on his arm and tapping his foot while he waits for us to all flock in.

As everyone came in he stepped forward, uncrossed his arms and began to talk.

"You know why we are here. Kate didn't come back with any food. Nothing. She came back with nothing. Now we are worse then ever. We have no food, we are running out of water. So I need to send people that I know can bring food back" Mr. Harris looked straight at me when he said that.

I knew he was going to pick my name. He tried to hide it by looking away from me. But I knew it may of been me from the start. He got pretty angry at me yesterday.

"I'm just gonna get right to it. Sam, Alleigh, Kiara and Jia. Please step forward. I trust in you four, and I know that you can bring back us all something. If not we are all going to die, and we will know who to blame. I'll meet you all at the front gate, same as last time. Continue what you were doing. Guards get back to work" Mr. Harris said walking towards us four.

All the students walked away. Mr. Harris walked right through us and turned around.

"Come on" Mr. Harris said.

We all followed him. We were all scared. We can't survive out there. We can hardly even take down a Walker. Imagine if we were attacked by ten of them. There's no way we would live through that.

We walked out through the STEM building and outside to the front gate. Mr. Harris had a bag in his hand. He chucked it in the ground.

"Choose your medicine" Mr. Harris said.

Jia picked up the bag and opened it straight away. He looked inside and took out a kitchen knife. He took it for himself and passed the bag along. Alleigh picked out a hammer, she passed it onto Kiara. She took out another kitchen knife. Kiara then handed me the bag. I looked inside and I saw a hatchet. I took the hatchet out of the bag and held onto it tightly. I put the bag onto my back and looked at Mr. Harris as he unlocked the gate and opened it.

We all walked out one by one. Mr. Harris grabbed my arm tightly as I was about to walk out and looked at me.

"You better bring something back" Mr. Harris said letting go of my arm.

I walked out and Mr. Harris slammed and locked the gate behind us. We all stood in a circle.

"Get moving" Mr. Harris said.

Jia rolled his eyes and just started walking down the road. Mr. Harris smirked at me as I followed him.

"Do you have any idea where you are even going?" Kiara asked.

"No. But we will come across something if we keep going" Jia said.

"Wait. I know where a place is. It close by. It may be raided but it's worth a shot" I said.

"Ok let's here it" Jia said.

"A place called Brickworks. Just on the river Torrens. It should only take about twenty to thirty minutes to get there" I said.

"Ok, but I just want you to know that as I'm the oldest, I'm the leader. You listen to me no matter what. You got that?" Jia asked.

"Okay Mr. Harris" Alleigh said.

"What?" Jia said confused.

"You sounded a lot like Mr. Harris just then. Personally I think we don't need a leader. We should just be our own leaders. If we have an idea we tell each other. Makes it easier" Alleigh said.

"What's your name?" Jia asked.

"Alleigh" She responded.

"Well Alleigh. I'm the leader okay. No buts, no no's, that's it. Got that?" Jia asked.

"Whatever" Alleigh said.

I lead the way to the river. Luckily the river is right next to our school. Quite literally a metre away from our oval. Once we get to the river we just need to follow it right and it should take us to the Brickworks Marketplace. I have a lot of memories there.

We made it to the river. The river looked dirty as usual. There was more rubbish in it then ever before. I turned right down the river as we all kept walking.

"So, how do you know this place?" Kiara asked.

"When I was little, Brickworks used to be an amusement park. There were go karts, boat dodgers, that clown game where you put the balls into their mouth. The goddamn best candy shop you've ever seen, but what I remember the most was the hot cinnamon doughnuts they had. They were the best. But sadly last year they renovated it and now it's a stupid Mall" I said.

"Sounds great" Alleigh said.

"Enough story telling. Keep your eyes peeled. There could be one of the dead around any corner" Jia said interrupting our conversation.

"Dude seriously? Do you have to be the spoil sport? We are just trying to keep our minds off of things. Also they are called Walkers" Alleigh said.

"Do you have a problem with me? Because what we should be doing is keeping our minds on getting food rather then what happened before all of this" Jia said.

"Wait are you on Mr. Harris' side?" Alleigh asked.

"He's done a lot for us. Yeah he might not be at his best at the moment but he's done a lot for us. Now shut up" Jia said.

We made it. I could see Brickworks on the other side of the bridge. I looked at the other three and I stopped. I pointed across the bridge. They all saw Brickworks. We all were quiet because we were concentrating even more.

We slowly crossed the bridge holding our weapons that Mr. Harris gave us. We walked to the Car Park. I saw about three Walkers all in the Car Park. We all hid behind a car.

"What's the best way of getting in?" Jia asked.

"Thought you were the leader?" I said.

Alleigh and Kiara smiled.

"I haven't been here before. Where do you think the safest entry point would be?" Jia asked.

"There's a door on the side. I doubt that it would work, it's self opening and the powers probably down like back at Underdale. We can try going through one of the stores" I said.

"We just need to get past the Walkers" Kiara said.

"Easy, just stay low" Jia said.

Jia crouched down and slowly moved from car to car. We followed him. Slowing down every time we thought a Walker was getting close. We made it to the last car closet to the door. Jia went to look over to see if it was clear and he nudged the cars side mirror. The mirror came off and smashed on the ground. I saw the Walkers turn around straight away and come straight towards us.

"What how did they know we were here?" Jia asked.

"Noise, come on" I said.

We all quickly made a run for the door. Jia got there first and went to open it. The door swung open. We all ran in. I grabbed a chair nearby and I lodged it into the handle so they couldn't get inside.

We walked through the restaurant and we got into the main Mall. The Mall is trashed. I can see rubbish, clothing, water bottles, food and all sorts of things all over the ground. I saw Alleigh, Kiara and Jia all looking around.

"Alright, the quicker we do this the quicker we can get back to Underdale. Alleigh and Kiara you should search BIG W for valuable supplies and Jia you should check Tony and Marks at the end of the Mall, they should have good stuff. I'll check Woolworths" I said.

"Didn't you forget? I'm the leader. I call the shots" Jia said.

"Yeah no one cares. Just do it, no arguing" I said.

As soon as I said that I walked away and so did Alleigh and Kiara. Jia was still standing still looking at me. He eventually walked off. I stood out front of the Woolworths supermarket. There were aisles that were completely pushed over, there was food all over the ground. Hopefully there's something left. I walked in and grabbed a trolley at the front and I put my hatchet onto the kids seat. I wheeled it in and went straight for the bread which was the closet.

I started grabbing it all and chucking it into my trolley. The bread was still in date. Not for long though. I saw five bags of oranges on the floor. They all looked perfectly fine. I picked them up and looked at them. They weren't squished they weren't bruised. It was a pretty good score.

I put the bags of oranges into my trolley and continued on. I grabbed everything that was left on the shelves. But that's when I realised that there might be some Ice Tea left. I quickly wheeled the trolley to the drinks isle to see that the drinks isle was one of the isles that was fallen over. I searched around for a bit, but then I spotted something. It was like the holy grail. A peach Ice Tea. I grabbed and opened the lid. I quickly went to drink it. But as I was about to take my first sip I could hear crying.

I dropped the Ice Tea onto the ground and I grabbed my hatchet from the trolley. I slowly walked around the drink isle. Once I got around I saw a girl with her head in her arms. She was on the ground and in a ball. I slowly walked over to her. She was crying a lot. I stood in front of her and I crouched down.

"Are you ok?" I asked.

"Go away" the girl said.

"No. In staying here until I know that you are ok" I said.

She slowly looked up and I saw her face. She has short brown hair and bright blue eyes. She was very pretty.

"My name is Sam" I said putting my hand out to shake hers.

"You have to get out of here. It's not safe" she said.

"We think it's clear. There aren't any Walkers" I said.

"No, not them. You've gotta her out of here before it's too late" she said.

"Why" I said.

*BANG*

I heard a loud bang coming from the middle of the Mall. It sounded like a gunshot. I looked at the girl. She was rocking back and forward.

"Stay here. I'll be back" I said.

"No they'll kill you" she said.

I walked past the drink isle and then out of the store. I looked around the corner and I could see two people holding Alleigh and Kiara and one person standing over a body on the ground. It was Jia. I saw blood all over the ground.

Alleigh and Kiara was struggling and wiggling trying to get out of their grasp. I needed to do something. I breathed in deeply and slowly let it out. I then stepped out of Woolworths and I slowly walked towards them.

"Let. Them. Go!" I yelled so they could hear me.

The three of them all looked up at me. They all had scruffy beards and they looked really skinny. One of them had a tattoo up his neck. The one who was standing over Jia stepped towards me.

"Sam get out of here!" Alleigh yelled.

"Shut up girl!" The man who was holding her said.

"Are you trying to be the hero?" The man who walked up to me asked.

"I'm trying to help my friends" I said.

"Well we killed one of them" the man who was holding Kiara said.

"Just let them go and we can go on our separate ways" I said.

"Yeah. No. We aren't letting any of you go. This is our Mall. You came in and tried to steal our stuff. I think you should be punished" The man who walked up to me said.

"There's other ways we can resolve this. Just let us go and we won't both you every again" I said.

"Oh I'm going to enjoy this" The man who walked up to me said.
