Chapter Eight - A Dire Warning

After telling the story of Anya's fall, the Argonauts were visibly shocked at the story. Talia however was shocked without words. She couldn't believe that Calypsa was in fact her mother.

Talia: Pan....why? Why didn't you tell me? You told me my mother died!

Pan: In a manner of speaking, she did. Without my knowing, Anya immersed herself in the dark arts. Doing so corrupted her. The Anya I knew was no more. There was only Calypsa. So what I said was true from a certain point of view

Yaoyorozu: Did you ever encounter her after that day?

Pan: No. Since that day, my failures with Anya and Charos have haunted me.

Midoriya: I....I can't believe it.

The UA students saw a completely different side to Pan. Instead of the jovial teacher, they saw a solemn man burdened by past failures. Seeing this was a shock to the Argonauts. They could see the sorrow and regret on Pan's face.

Midoriya: Did you ever try to find her?

Pan: I did. For three days, I searched all of Greece for her, but I could not find her. It was then that I realized that I had to raise Talia.

Talia was still in shock. She looked that the man who raised her with different eyes. She couldn't believe that Pan had kept this information secret from her for all these years. Pan felt ashamed. He looked at Talia with mournful eyes.

Pan: Talia....I'm sorry....I failed you. I failed you as a mentor and as a friend. Anya and Charos were my students and I failed them. If I had seen the signs, none of this would've happened. You would still have your parents. I'm.....I'm sorry.

Talia was still processing this information. The Argonauts couldn't even imagine how both Pan and Talia were feeling. What was unfolding before them was something none of them had even seen before. Even Midoriya who knew of his fellow UA student Todoroki's family life seemed different from Talia's situation.

Talia: Pan.....I......

Pan: After what happened to your mother, I swore to all the Gods of Olympus that I would protect you with my life. This was my way of atoning for my failures.

In his own way, Pan was asking Talia for forgiveness. Talia took a long moment to think this through. While Talia was hurt by Pan keeping secrets from her, she couldn't find it in her heart to hate him. With tears falling from her face, she walked over to Pan and hugged him. Pan was initially taken aback by this, but he embraced her.

Talia: Pan.....I could never hold any hate in my heart for you. You've.....you've been like a father to me.....if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't be here. Whatever happened with my mother and father was not your fault...

Pan was taken aback by Talia's kindness. In his mind, he felt he didn't deserve her forgiveness. Yet Talia forgave Pan without hesitation.

Pan: Thank you dear Talia.....

As Pan and Talia shared that tender moment, Jiro saw something building up from a vantage point overlooking the enclave through the Sight of Hermes.

Jiro: Uh guys....I think we got company!

Everyone then turned their attention to a large purple mist. From the purple mist came the form of Calypsa.

Pan: Calypsa....

Talia: Mother....

Bakugo: Stand back! I'm fucking taking this bitch down!

Pan: Bakugo wait!

Pan's words fell on deaf ears as Bakugo launched himself with his Explosion Quirk towards Calypsa, but she halted his advances at pushed him away.

Calypsa: Oh the hot flame of youth. Always quick to rush to violence.

Pan: What do you want Calypsa?

Calypsa: A great many things Satyr. I want you dead at my feet. I want all that you've built crushed beneath my boots. But more importantly, I want my daughter.

Calypsa then turned her gaze onto Talia. Talia looked at her fallen mother with determined eyes. She wanted nothing more than to save her.

Talia: Mother....please. It's not too late. We can help you....

Calypsa: Naive child. This world is sick. Fools like Pan are what's wrong with this world. I can bring about a utopia.

Pan: A utopia through destruction no doubt.

Calypsa: I will do what must be done. Charos's death showed me just how naive I was. With my power, I will create that utopia. Come with me daughter. Forsake this false teacher and embrace your destiny.

Talia felt her heart weigh down at her as her mother called upon her. Despite this, she remained steadfast in her beliefs bestowed upon Pan.

Talia: I'm sorry mother, but I can't.

Calypsa showed no emotion on her face. The rest of the Argonauts along with Pan felt pride with Talia's decision.

Calypsa: So be it girl. If you chose to side with the Satyr and his allies, then you will die with them as well.

Midoriya: How could you say that to your own daughter?!

Calypsa: I have had enough of this. If you all wish to face me, I will be waiting on the top of Mount Etna. But know this, you cannot stop the inevitable. I will create this utopia and you cannot stop me.

The form of Calypsa then vanished in a cloud of purple mist. In that moment, Calypsa issued her dire warning upon Talia alongside Pan and the Argonauts. They prepared themselves for what Calypsa had planned on Mount Etna.
