Flashback.
Mels P.O.V
"It'll be okay" said Deedee, cupping my head to her chest.

"I know what's going on Dee. I just want everything to end. I want to start over" I said, wiping a tear of my face on to her shirt.

"We can start over" she said

"How?" I asked

"Lets start it off with simple steps. A new name perhaps?"

I have been thinking about changing my name, because of what happened to mom.

"I want my name to be Melissa. Though, Call me Mel" I answered.

"Great, Mel, I'll be Teresa" she said.

"I want everything to change. I want my home back" I whined.

Teresa looked around the room, lifted my head up, then walked over to a cupboard. She opened the left wing, and took out a clear container, with blue texture in it.

"We can dye your hair" she said, with a smile, holding back the tears of how messed up the world had become.

I looked at the container. It had a strange blue mixture in it. I didn't know what it was, or if it would burn my hair off, but I trusted Teresa.

"Do it" I said

We were in our so called "bathroom". Small room, grey walls, and one tiny window in the corner, which was the only source of light as of now. There were a bunch of empty metal shelves, and in the centre of the room, was a bathtub.

Teresa brushed my hair out, and put my head onto the edge of the bathtub, making sure I was comfortable, then began to dye it.

Her hair color was the same as mine. I didn't know how the blue would show, but It didn't matter...

Teresas face was right above mine, and her hands were, as if playing in my hair with the blue substance.
Her sharp blue eyes reminded me of the bright skies we had in our city, before the cranks flooded the streets of it

After finishing my hair, letting it dry, and talking, I wanted to take a look at it.

"Is it completely dry?" I asked.

"Yes" said Teresa, after doing one last stroke with the hairbrush.

"Can I see?" I asked.

I know Teresa wouldn't let me...

"You know the only mirror we have is in ma's room. Means we have to go in there to see" answered my sister.

"Well, we can go in and bring her lunch while we're at it" I offered.

"I guess that'll do"

Mom was sick.

A crank.
Thats why Teresa never let me in there. She said that she can go in their, because she's immune, but doesn't know if I am.

My mom got chained up to the wall by my dad, before he left, in order for her not to her us.
Even though she wouldn't eat, and would have piles of broken plates with pieces of food lying around, we still bring her meals, hoping she would eat for once. Thats what family does.

Teresa held a plate with the lunch, and I walked behind her to moms room.

There was a rusty mirror on the left wall.

Mom wasn't awake, but Teresa put a plate beside her. While she was doing that, I took a look in the mirror. I could see moms body crunched into a small ball, and Teresa walking towards me.
As for the hair, it did show up as a little tint, but it was just what I needed.

I was still looking in the mirror, when all of a sudden, mom sprung up, and came after Teresa.

"Teresa watch out!" I yelled, and pulled her aside.

My moms body was completely disfigured.

"Its all your fault!!" Yelled mom, and pointed at me, then she looked into the mirror.

Slowly, she reached to her cheeks, then her eyes.

I held onto Teresa.

"It is your fault..." She whispered under her breath.

"No, Teresa, It can't be! I was doing what I was told!" I said, not understanding what was going on. Why the blame was put on me.

Suddenly, mom started gouging her eyes out.
"I can't live like this!" She screamed.
"Mommy, Dont!!" I yelled, and leaped towards her.
"Melissa, don't you dare!" Teresa exclaimed, and pulled me back to where I was standing.
I wanted to help mom, I wanted to help find the cure, if there is one...

Teresa lifted me up, but I protested with screams. Why did my mom do that? I wanted to go back and help.

She carried me into the same room, where we died my hair.

"Are you insane? I told you many times not to go near mom" my sister said with disappointment.

"She needs help" I said, sobbing.

"She will find help!"

Silence.

I calmed down.

"Why do you think its my fault?" I asked.

Then, we heard loud footsteps.

"Teresa, someone's in our house" I said.

She turned her head to the calendar.

"Shoot, I forgot..." She whispered.

"Forgot what?" I asked

"Listen just be quiet!"

"No! Why did you put the blame on me? Answer me!"

"Because you gave mom the wrong antidote! The antidote I asked you NOT to give, while I was gone, and while mom was recovering!" She finally yelled, shaking me by the shoulders.

Teresa happened to shake me so hard, I lost balance, and fell head first, onto the bathtub.

"Melissa!" Exclaimed Teresa in shock, and lifted my head.

I didn't feel any pain. Yet...

"It... Hurts...." I let out.

"I know it does baby, Im so sorry, please promise me you'll be good okay?" She asked.

What did she mean by being good?

I would've asked, but I didn't have the energy.

Suddenly, men in black costumes with "w.c.k.d" written on them, threw our door down, and came to get us.

"Melly, wake up! Please!" Screamed Teresa, holding my head as I was loosing consciousness, but the guards took her away, and the last I saw her, was my sister screaming in tears:
"Wake up Mel!"

"Wake up Mel"

"Wake up Mel!"

The voice transitioned into a males voice, and loud fuzzy noises surrounded it.

"Mel wake up! We gotta go!"

I opened my eyes, and saw Minho.

Immediately, I jumped up, and began to follow him into a building with flashy lights.

The rest of our gladers were already there, waiting for us.

I looked around, as the gigantic medal doors behind us, closed.

I stepped forward to the group, when I saw a familiar face.

Janson.

"Ahh, the new kids have arrived, and someone gas returned" he said, "Melissa, its good to had you back"
