Mackenzie's POV.
I sigh as I finish packing my clothes and my bow and arrow I got for my 8th birthday. I feel a presence at the door and I look to see Mum standing there, leaning on the doorframe with crossed arms and a sad expression.
"I know ye don't wanna go... But it's for yer safety." Mum says softly as she comes and hugs me.
"I know, Mum. It's too dangerous in the kingdom. I'm gonna miss ye and Grandma..." I whisper.
Grandpa passed away a few years after my uncles' disappearances. I'm now 15 years old, and I'm leaving Scotland to go live in Auradon. Fortunately I am allowed to bring two of my pets, my Horse, who is Angus' 'granddaughter' in a way. Her name is Acheflow, meaning white flower, due to her coat. My other pet is my Great Dane, named after my grandfather, Fergus. We head outside where a truck with a horse trailer is on the back.
"Fergus! Come on boy, into the truck!" I call and he runs sloppily out of the castle gates and right into the back seat of the truck. I give him a treat with a sleeping pill in it so he doesn't have anxiety during the ride. He falls asleep with his head in my lap as Mum closes my door for me.
"Bye, my love. I'll visit on Family Day. I love ye, dear." She says, kissing my forehead through the opened window. She steps back a bit and the driver starts down the road. I wave bye to Mum and then we make our way to Auradon.
Timeskip.
I sigh as Fergus wakes up and wags his tail as we near Auradon Prep's school grounds. When the car stops, I see a woman in blue, Fairy Godmother, and a boy in a blue and yellow suit with a girl beside him, wearing pink and hugging his arm. I get out and Fergus catapults out. He runs up to the three and gets in a playful stance. I notice the marching band behind them and smile. I walk up and Fergus sits on the ground as I rest a hand on his head.
"Princess Mackenzie, right?" The boy asks politely. I nod and shake his hand. "I'm Ben–"
"Prince Ben." The girl in pink interrupts. "Soon to be King~ he's also my boyfriend. I'm Audrey, daughter of Sleeping Beauty."
"It's... Nice to meet ye?" I say unsurely and Fergus growls at her. "Fergus, that's enough."
"I'm the son of King Beast and Queen Belle." Ben finishes. I smile at his tone, he wasn't bragging at all. "Your the daughter of Queen Merida and Chief–"
"Yes. Yes I am. We don't really talk about my Dad since he's... Always away for business." I cut him off. I look over my shoulder to see a man guiding Acheflow from the trailer, and lead her over to me. "Hey girl..." I pet her neck and she huffs out a breathe, almost content.
"What's her name?" Fairy Godmother asks, placing a hand on Acheflow's snout.
"Acheflow. And this is Fergus." I smile as Acheflow leans into her touch. "It's very rare for her to trust strangers so fast."
"Well... Let's get on with the tour, yeah?" Ben asks after the man starts to lead Acheflow to the stables. I nod and follow Ben and Audrey. We walk around campus before Ben stops a boy who was coming down the stairs. "Doug! Doug! Can you show Mackenzie to her dorm room?"
"Sure!" Doug says, then Ben and Audrey leave us by the stairs. "Hi! I'm Dough, son of Dopey. As in Dopey, Doc, Bashful, Happy, Grumpy, Sleepy, and..."
"Sneezy." I smile at him as he counts the dwarfs' names on his fingers. "I'm Mackenzie, Merida's daughter." I shake his hand and he leads me to my dorm.
"Did Ben explain the rules?" He asks as we make it to the door. I nod. "Okay, so uh... Your roommate is, I think the daughter of... Hmmmm..." He trails off trying to remember. The door opens and a girl with golden hair stands there.
"Daughter of Rapunzel and Flynn." She holds a hand for me to shake. "Hi, I'm Roxie."
"Merida's daughter, Mackenzie." I smile, shaking her hand. "Thank ye Doug, I hope we can become great friends in the future."
"You bet, I'll see you two later I guess." He waves and leaves. I walk into the room and see paintings on the walls, and on the roof.
"Sorry, I guess I'm just like my mom. She loves to paint." Roxie says shyly.
"There beautiful." I smile at her. "So, do ye have yer Mum's healing abilities?"
"Sorta. My hair doesn't go brown if I cut it, but it grows an inch or two after I heal something." She smiles at me and I hear scratching at the door. "What's that?"
"Probably Fergus. He went with a man to the stables and I guess he came looking for me." I walk over to the door and open it and Fergus runs in, so I close the door again.
I look around the room again and see two twin sized beds, a ladder near one, leading to a are with pillows and blankets, perfect to hangout on. The ceiling was high enough where you wouldn't get hit in the head by the fan when your standing, along with a bathroom beside the second bed. The door was between the bathroom and ladder, while a window was placed on either side of both twin beds.
"Is it okay if I call you, Mac?" Roxie asks.
"Only if I can sleep in the loft, and Fergus has the other twin bed?" I offer. She nods and we shake on it.
"Do you need help unpacking?" She offers after I place my luggage on Fergus' bed.
"Actually... Can ye go ask Fairy Godmother where the bedding from Acheflow's trailer went?" I ask. She nods and leaves. I unpack and place my clothes in one of the closets in the room. I climb the ladder and lay in the bedding up there, tracing the designs on my arrow.
"Found it!" Roxie yells as she runs in, carrying the large pillows.
I smile and get down. We push the bed to a different wall of the room, and lay Fergus' unique doggy bedding in it's spot. Fergus nods in approval before laying down.
"Would you like to go meet some of my friends with me?" Roxie asks, grabbing her satchel before looking at me. I shrug and grab my bow and quiver, slinging them over my shoulder.
"Sure, can ye show me where the archery field is after?" I ask, she nods and we go out and meet up with a girl with short black hair, named Lonnie, a girl with brown short hair named Jane, and Doug as well. "Hi. I'm Mackenzie, but ye guys can call me Mac." I introduce myself as their attention is on me.
"I'm Lonnie! Daughter of Mulan." She shakes my hand.
"I-I'm J-Jane... Daughter of Fairy Godmother..." Jane stutters nervously.
"It's nice to meet ye both, I'm the daughter of Merida." I smile at them both and we sit at a table outside and just chat with one another.
"Is it alright if I steal Mackenzie for a bit?" Ben asks after walking up to us. I am relieved Audrey isn't with him. They nod and me and Ben walk around, getting to know each other better.
"Ben, yer like the brother I nev'r had!" I giggle as he tells another joke. He gets a brotherly smile on his face before ruffling my hair. "Ben!"
"Sorry. Your like the sister I never had, too." He smiles down at me and I pout. I look over as see Roxie head back to the room while Lonnie, Jane and Doig head to their own dorms too.
"Can ye show me where the Archery grounds are?" I ask him and he nods before grabbing my hand and leading me across campus.
We reach a green field surrounded by trees. I see another field that's deprecated from this one by bleachers. I see boys playing some kind of game. And I feel my eyebrows scrunch in confusion.
"That's the Tourney Field. I'm actually the captain of our team." He says, smiling down at me. I smile back, happy he doesn't brag.
"Well Congradulations, Cap'in." I chuckle and he jods.
"Yeah, so if you ever need something, you'll find me at practice in my free time." He explains and I nod before he runs off to practice.
"Hi there! Do you need something?" A woman says cheerfully. Her hair is black, and tied in a tight bun. I see the bow and arrow in her hands.
"Actually, I wanted to practice Archery, if that's okay with you." I say politely, she smiles and holds her arm out.
"Go on ahead. I'm assuming your Queen Merida's daughter." She walks with me to one of the empty areas, since very few were here, since this is a sort of class and today there are no classes. I nod and she hands me some arrows. "In that case, I think you should use the school arrows. Don't want yours to get broken or lost. Plus these ones won't hurt anyone if they accidentally get in the line of fire."
"Thanks, Ms..." I trail off, remembering she didn't give me her name.
"Names Dani Smith. You can call me Dani." She shakes my hand.
"Mackenzie." I smile at her and we separate and practice Archery on our own. That day I made new friends, and made sure to enrol into Ms. Smith's class.
