Chapter Sixty-Nine: Telephone

A/N: Time for Courtney to go. She's extremely toxic.

\Bones's point of view/

"Hi, sis. Matt said he saw you at the aquarium today." I chuckled.

"Yeah, I got time to hang with the kiddoz today. Snapped plenty of pictures of them. I'm thinking of arranging them in an album or framing a few and hanging them." Mercy replied. "My kids are so cute."

"Ooh, that sounds lovely. I'm up in Jersey helping Sam renovate." I informed her.

"Renovate?"

"Yeah, the dorm he's living in had been abandoned until all the other dorms were filled up all the way this year. He's not starting classes for two weeks, so he decided not to argue and he's renovating. Sam also wants to have you or the art teacher he's been hanging out with paint a mural in his room and on the ugly back wall of the building. The building needs to be painted period, but he and I figured we could get away with a nice pale yellow on the outside walls(other than the back wall) and purple doors. The art teacher approved happily, so that's what we're doing." I took a breath before continuing. "Sam had Niffty take care of the ant infestation and we found a few dead things and some of the drywall is crumbling and the whole building is in shambles and I haven't slept in days because I've been helping our hyperfixating brother on the thing he's being OCD about. Help."

"Holy fucking moly. I need your help too, Bones. Charlie, Evan, Vaggie, and I have no idea how to arrange Heaven. You probably know what to do more than we do. We might need to postpone Heaven reopening until after we finish Sam's dorm." Mercy sighed. I could hear her heavy despair and stress. "How many people are supposed to live there this year?"

"The number went up again, so I'd have to ask." I said. "I know that we're not even going to be doing the roommate set up for the students living here, unless the number of residents goes up by another twenty-seven or so. This building can house forty-eight if there are two to a room, so twenty four rooms total. There are three floors. And each room is around the size of the guest room at Dad's TARDIS-like NOLA house."

"Wow. That's a pretty big building if it actually obeys physics better than Dad's house does."

"It does actually obey physics, so less work trying to get it to behave for renovations." I chuckled. "I'm really glad it hasn't been enchanted or anything."

"I would be too. Goddamn. Want me to send you guys dinner?" Mercy asked.

"Oh yeah, that would be great if you could." I replied. "What's for dinner?"

"I was thinking spaghetti because it's something I can get all of my kids to eat." Mercy replied. "Taking care of them is a literal pain in the ass, but I love them so I'm willing to do it."

"It do be like that."

"It iiiss what it iiis." Mercy agreed.

"It's almost October. Are you planning anything costume-wise?" I asked.

"I have to discuss it with Calypso, but I have me an idea. I was thinking Peter Pan theme." Mercy said. "It's one of the movies that all of us collectively like. And I have it memorized because of how much the kiddoz watch it."

"Who is gonna be who?" I asked.

"Well, I think Cal and I would be Wendy and Peter. Ben is asking if he can be Tinker Bell right now and I'm just...alright. So Ben is gonna be Tinker Bell. Ashton wants to be one of the pirates. And I'm probably gonna make the twins into some lost children, possibly the twin skunk ones." Mercy explained, pausing. I could hear what she was saying, but she was muffled. "Let's get you fastened, Elli...I don't care if you're on your tablet right now, Ashton, you need to be fastened in your car seat."

"Courtney is calling." I told Mercy as my phone started vibrating in my hand.

"Okay, bye. I love you and I'm sending dinner in an hour or so." Mercy sighed.

"Thank you so much for sending Sam and I dinner. I love you too." I said, hanging up and answering Courtney's FaceTime call. "Hey-"

"Bones! Where are you right now?" Courtney asked, her face full of annoyance.

"I'm helping my brother ou-"

"When will you be done with him?"

"He's my brothe-"

"He's in the way. Get rid of him or expect me to break up with you."

"Bu-"

"I started planning our wedding, by the way." Courtney tried to distract me, pissing me off quickly. She seemed to realize it as the skull shape on my short fluff started glowing red through my thin tank top.

"Now hold on a fucking minute. Shut up. Let me speak for once in your goddamn life, I swear on Lucifer's hat if you don't stay quiet while I talk I'm gonna suffocate you in that sweater you stole." I shouted before composing myself. "Sam is my family. He's one of my best friends. And as the ancient saying goes: bros before hoes. So I'm going to help Sam out with fixing a building on his campus and you are going to leave my money alone for once."

"Bu-"

"COURTNEY ELIZABETH SMITH."

"Okay, I'll shut up." Courtney's voice was filled with annoyance. She rolled her eyes. I took a deep breath and blew it out of my nose.

"We aren't engaged. We aren't married. It's MY money. Stop spending my money. You said something to my sister that made her mad, referring to her two youngest children. Let me pull up the receipt of what you said." I said, using my diva voice for the first time in weeks.

"You don't have t-"

I started letting the static sink into my voice and the air around me. I gripped my phone so hard, my knuckles went pale. I felt myself fall dangerously into my uncontrollable anger that I have stifled my entire life.

"You told my sister that she had too many children by your standards and you still expect me to want to marry you?" I roared. "I want kids! And you don't want to be the one to bear my children or adopt any with me. Why should I keep you in the picture, darling, riddle me that."

"I don-"

"Of course you don't know, you haven't been giving any real love this whole time. No love. Only lust and vanity. I had fallen for you because of your 'personality' but all of that was a hoax, wasn't it. A goddamn hoax. I was a fool for falling for that...sickly sweet faux personality that begs to be loved. You are a gold-digger. You only care about yourself. You want my family's fortune. And you want my body." I said, my voice dropping an octave or two until it was resting at a baritone, still full of static.

"I don't know what you mean." Courtney lied.

"We're breaking up. I'm done. Don't try to get my friends on your side, they already know what you are and what you did. Trying to hide isn't going to work, as you are going to be hunted for sport shortly by several people with powerful senses of smell, you abusive bitch." I hummed, regaining my composure. My skull shape on my chest continued to glow, though I had control of my anger again.

"Bu-"

"I'm collecting my things. Your things are going to be donated to a homeless shelter." I said, hanging up. I sent out a group text to my family and friends to start the hunt.

"Are you going to help me figure out all the wiring and all that stuff now?" Sam asked, smiling at me from the doorway as I put my phone down.

"Yeah, I'm coming." I replied, getting up and following him out to the electric box.
