Chapter Fifteen: Found and Forgotten

^Calypso's point of view^

It's been two months since Alastor was taken. I've taken to daily tarot readings about him, most of the time the cards telling me nothing, sometimes the cards telling me just the state of his health (not what I was asking, but okay). I've been visiting Rat and Madeline a lot, trying to get Rat to spill what prophecy he put into the book of life. It's been painful for my girlfriend and her siblings. Ben has barely any idea what the fuck is going on, because he is only three months old and he barely knew Alastor. Angel is probably in the worst shape right now, looking completely miserable as he slogged along through daily activity, wearing black clothing and drinking alcohol every night as an attempt to dull the pain of heartbreak.

It was such an odd thing to me. I'd never seen him in any of his angsty episodes before, but according to Arackniss and Molly: this was fairly normal for a heartbroken Angel. They were surprised he hadn't gone back into one night stands and drugs.

We were moving slowly along until I spotted a familiar face in the crowd. I focused on it. It was Alastor with shorter hair and a slightly meaner expression on his face. I furrowed my brow at that. He never seemed untouchable or evil until now. What did this?

I approached.

"Hello there, who might you be?" Alastor asked, telling me that he had no recollection of me at all.

"I'm Calypso. And you're Alastor, the Radio Demon." I replied.

"Yes indeedy, I am from what I've heard of myself out on these streets. Now, I'm curious...why did you approach me without any fear in you?" Alastor asked, bending slightly so he was eye to eye with me.

"It seems like I've known you for a long time, sir." I thought back to the lore about Alastor that I was taught in the orphanage by some of the older kids. "Do you want to play my game?" I asked.

"Ooh...normally, I would ask if you wanted to play my game, but now I'm intrigued. Go on, what are the terms and conditions of your game?" Alastor asked, his smile widening.

"You have to agree to be willing to do anything. Are you willing?" I asked.

"Depends. What are we going to be doing?" He asked, smartly so.

"Nothing sexual, sir, if that's what you're wondering." I replied. "Just...seeing what I can get you to recall. Someone kidnapped you and erased most all of your memory of Hell. You still remember your mother and father, don't you?" I asked. He raised an eyebrow, his smile fading quite a bit.

"Yes." He hesitantly told me. "I remember my human life really well too."

"Good. That's very good. Let's continue to talk over a cup of tea, shall we?" I asked politely. Alastor nodded and I let out a sharp whistle. Bernard came trotting up the road, the reins and saddle draped across her back. "Hey, girl. You ready?" I asked my moose as I fastened the reins and saddle to her. She bucked her head a little and I got on her, offering a hand to help Alastor up onto my mighty steed. He hesitantly took my hand, heaving himself onto my moose and I went back to my newly-built cottage with Alastor.

"Hey, Mercy! I'm home!" I called out, sliding off Bernard's back. Mercy appeared in the doorway, smiling at me as I approached and kissed her lightly.

"Benny is down for a nap right now. He was very sleepy when I was trying to feed him." Mercy told me before her eyes landed on Alastor. Her mouth was ajar as the two redheads stared at each other.

"Mercy, listen to me. Alastor doesn't know you right now because he was wiped clean. Be patient with him." I told her gently.

"Okay. Are you going to try to get him to remember?" Mercy asked, swallowing back her emotions so they disappeared from her face.

"Yes, I'm going to try. Would you mind putting the kettle on while we get settled in the den?" I asked. She nodded and disappeared into our little house.

"Why wasn't she smiling? She'd look better with a smile..." Alastor asked.

"Your disappearance two months ago has caused...a switch in how she copes with feelings. She is very quick to anger right now and she's trying not to scream at you right now." I told him with a melancholy smile.

"I knew her before I was wiped?"

"She's your firstborn daughter." I told him softly. His eyes widened.

"I had a child?" He asked with disbelief.

"Yes, you had five children total, including Mercy."

"Five children. With whom?" He asked disbelievingly.

"Anthony "Angel Dust" Aracane." I told him gently.

"That's...oh...did he have pretty pink eyes?" Alastor asked after a few long seconds of furrowing his brow.

"Yes. Any other pieces you remember about him?" I coaxed as I put Bernard away.

"He had pale skin. Pale hair...and a lot of soft fluff. Oh and...he's an idiot." Alastor said after focusing on what flash of memory he got.

"Yes, very good." I applauded as I led him into the house.

"How did the five children happen between us?"

"Are you asking me if he was pregnant? No. That was very much you, sir. I can even point out the scars from your C-section if you want proof." I enunciated.

"Were we in love?" Alastor asked almost desperately.

"Hopelessly so. Very devoted to each other too."

Alastor looked like he was full of longing and sadness.

"So that's why I've been feeling like I was missing so many important things." Alastor sighed as he sat on the couch.

"I imagine so. Is remembering painful?" I asked.

"No, not really, but it does take some effort." Alastor replied as I retrieved the kettle off the stove.
