Chapter 23: Reputation

(Y/n)'s POV
I looked down, feeling the sharp pain in my stomach, and saw a blue light glowing inside me. "I warned you that you would die by my hands, Anya," Obi-Wan said, rising from his knees. He held the lightsaber tightly and reached up with his other hand to pull off my mask, throwing it aside. He leaned closer, a happy smile on his face. Gently, he wiped away a tear that had fallen from my eye, his blue gaze locked onto my amber one. "A life for a life," he murmured, stepping back a bit while still holding my neck for support as he pushed the lightsaber deeper.

I bolted upright in bed, my heart racing and my hands instinctively clutching my stomach. Only to realize that everything was fine, it wasn't real, I was alive and here. But why did it feel so real? My breath quickened, panic creeping in as the nightmare replayed in my mind, each moment feeling like I was dying over and over again.

"Hey, hey, it's okay," Anakin said, placing his hands on my shoulders. He pulled me close, pulling me into a hug. "It was just a dream. I'm here. Just breathe for me." His gentle touch on my back helped calm my racing heart. I focused on his words, inhaling and exhaling slowly, trying to regain my composure. Gradually, I felt the tension in my body begin to slowly ease. "That's it. Can you tell me what you saw?" he asked, pulling back to meet my gaze, his expression serious as he wiped away my tears.

I noticed that like before, he was sitting up and the book he read was resting vin his lap. I nodded and replied, "You can see for yourself." I closed my eyes, allowing him access into my mind. His cool hand rested on my forehead for a moment before he withdrew it.

When I opened my eyes, I found him staring blankly at the wall, his expression unreadable. "Get some rest; it was just a dream," he said softly, settling back down and pulling the blanket to cover us both.

"But it felt so—"

"Real, I understand. But, not everything we see becomes reality, and it's common for our fears to seep into our dreams. Now, try to relax and get some sleep; we have training in the morning." His tone was firmer than usual. He set his book aside and settled into the bed beside me. I followed his advice, striving to calm my mind and fall back asleep, with no luck. I assume he sensed my tension, because he took my hand gently under the blanket. "Don't worry about him. I won't let him get to you."

I turned to find him already gazing at me. "And what if he does—get to me?" I asked. I felt confident in my abilities, having trained hard over my time here, but I knew that against him—a man who had dedicated his life to being a Jedi and trained for years compared to my months—I stood little to no chance.

"He won't," he replied sharply, then took a deep breath to steady himself.

I believed he would do everything he could to keep me safe, so I felt myself relax just a little. Though I had a pressing question in my mind that rose with this entire ordeal. I turned my body to face him completely, resting my hand near my face as I held the pillow. "What if I die?" I questioned, noticing a flicker of anger in his eyes. "Not necessarily by his hand, but this new life you've introduced me to is dangerous. I could die in so many ways at anytime. So I've been wondering—what would you do if I were gone? Would you seek another apprentice?"

He exhaled through his nose before responding, "Probably not, no."

"Why not?" I asked, intrigued.

"I never wanted one initially," He paused, biting his cheek in thought. "But I saw something in you that I doubt I'll find in anyone else."

I smiled, feeling a bit flattered, and continued, "But what about your Empire? Who will take over when you're no longer here?"

He frowned, "Why all the sudden questions (y/n)?"

I shrugged, "I'm just curious. It seems like something you should have thought about. If you've never considered finding an apprentice and clearly don't want kids," I noticed his face twist in disgust at that last part, "then what was your plan? Who would you pass it on to?"

He paused, his brows knitting together and his lips parting slightly as if he was about to say something, but no words came out—until about thirty seconds later. "To be honest, I haven't really thought that far ahead. But I guess—" He hesitated, "It would go to you, and then to your apprentice when you find one, and so on. And if you happen to die before me—which you won't, I'm just entertaining your idiotic curiosity—I suppose I'd have to look for someone else, but that's not something that is going to have to happen, you aren't going anywhere." His tone was stern again and I was starting to suspect that it wasn't from anger, but fear.

I raised an eyebrow, deciding to be a little playful to lighten the somber mood I created. "You'd really trust me with all of this?" I gestured around us, encompassing the vast expanse of his empire, "I might accidentally burn everything down."

He chuckled softly, "Well, you show promise. You're resourceful, and you are a lot smarter than you give yourself credit for. Plus, you're not afraid to challenge me once in awhile, which is a quality I value very much."

"I had believed that anyone bold enough to challenge you would either end up with a lightsaber lodged in their stomach or their windpipe crushed."

"Normally yes, that is the case," he replied with a grin, turning to face me completely so we were in the same position, eye to eye, "But not with you. You are someone that needs to be better than me and that requires you questioning my judgment every once in awhile. Just as long as you do it behind closed doors, do not ever question me in-front of others."

I nodded in agreement. "Yes, sir."

He reached out slowly, cradling my face and pressing my cheeks together until my lips formed a small pout. Then, he leaned in and kissed me softly for a few moments, causing my heart to race. When he pulled back, his gaze moved from my lips to my eyes, his own lips slightly shimmering from our kiss. "No more questions, go to sleep."

It took me a few seconds to recover, the kiss was nice but unexpected. I don't think he's ever kissed me unless we were intimate. Did this mean something? No of course not, I'm thinking too much into it, "Yes, Master." I whispered and watched as his eyes closed and I followed moments later.

💚

When he mentioned he had training for me in the morning, I certainly didn't picture this.

"Just tell me if you know where Kenobi is." I shrugged, dangling from the chains in my rebel cell. They thought they had me trapped, but this was all part of our plan. Initially I was surprised he was even allowing such a thing since he's strictly had me by his side like a little puppy-dog ever since Kenobi escaped—but I wasn't going to question or complain. Besides he did mention he knew Kenobi wasn't near, he'd feel him if he was which helped him ease up on his strict rules. This was just about trying to get one step ahead of him.

And he's not far, he's hovering in a main ship above this place, far from view, so technically he's still near me and ready to intervene at any point.

One of the women laughed as she approached me. "As if we'd share anything with you, Anya. But I must admit, you've gained quite a reputation after that mess on Tatooine," she said, looking me up and down with disdain. "I don't see it, though. You were caught so easily," she continued, stepping closer. "Word is, you're just Emperor Vader's plaything and nothing more."

She probably thought her words would sting, but they only amused me. "You're just jealous that I'm getting some from the hottest guy in the galaxy while you're here playing with yourself. Now that's pathetic." I laughed, and she lunged at me, fury etched on her face, slapping me hard.

Yes, they've seen my face, but it didn't matter. They'd all be gone in less than twenty minutes.

I just laughed, "Do that again," I taunted, shifting in my chains. She was about to strike when a couple of rebels grabbed her to hold her back.

"Crazy bitch," she spat at me.

"Not crazy, just honest," I replied with a devilish grin as they dragged her out, leaving me alone with two men. I sighed, "So, does anyone here know where Kenobi is? Anybody?" I glanced around the room, only to be met with confused expressions. Great, a dead end. Now I needed to break free to signal my clones. "So, boys," I said with a seductive smile, "These chains are really tight." I looked at them flirtatiously, and their eyes narrowed as they exchanged glances. "Care to come over and help a girl out?" I tugged against the force-suppressing chains.

"Don't pay attention to her," one of them whispered to the other, "I heard Vader screwed the sanity out of her."

Well, that's a new one.

I just needed one of them to step a bit closer. "You know, if Vader discovers how badly I've been treated, he'll tear you apart and use your insides for decorations," I warned. My usual charm wasn't working, so I had to change my approach.

One of them laughed, "Come on, he doesn't even know where you are." He moved closer, and I smirked, watching him carefully.

"Are you really so sure?" I tilted my head, a clever thought striking me. "I'm quite important to him. You think he'd let me go without some sort of backup?" I asked sweetly, my smile widening as their expressions shifted to fear.

One of them stepped nearer, "She must have a tracker on her." I didn't, but I knew they would want to check me.

"Find it!"

He finally got close enough, and I quickly pulled myself up with the chains, wrapping my legs around his head and twisting his neck in a sudden, sharp motion.

"Alright chubby," I said to the man who looked uneasy as he took a step back. "If you don't get me out of these chains in thirty seconds, your little friend down here is going to have a very bad day." I shifted my legs, causing the guy I was holding to let out a pained groan. "Now we're down to twenty seconds," I warned, my teeth clenched tight as I shot him a fierce look to show I meant business.

He finally nodded, fumbling in his pocket for a key. He hurried over and unlocked the chains from my wrists. The moment I was free, I twisted my legs and snapped the guy's neck. He crumpled to the ground as I grabbed the chain to steady myself before dropping down to my feet.

I reached for the knife tucked away in my boot. "I thought you were going to—" the man who had freed me started to say, but I drove the knife deep into his neck.

"I was just kidding," I said with a grin as I pulled the knife out. Blood sprayed out, hitting me in the face, but I managed to close my eyes just in time. He collapsed with a heavy thud, twitching on the floor. "Gross," I muttered, using my sleeve to wipe the blood off my face. I pulled my sleeve down and brought the communicator I had hidden up to my lips. "They don't know anything, now let's set this place on fire," I told them as I pulled the mask from my other boot and put it on. We planned to kill all of them regardless on if they knew where Kenobi was or not, the chances of them knowing were slim—the target was always this rebel base and I've been itching to get my hands on one.

💚

The woman who had slapped me earlier foolishly tried to crawl away, and I couldn't help but let out a soft laugh. With a flick of my wrist, I used the force to turn her onto her back. "How far did you think you could get like that?" I shook my head, clicking my tongue in mock disappointment. I stepped closer, her cries echoing along the walls of the ruined rebel base. It was thrilling, and it brought a smile to my face. I had a personal score to settle with her. "Beg," I commanded, lifting her by the neck with the force. She struggled, trying to pry away the invisible grip.

"Please," she gasped, her face twisted in pain. I barely heard her; I was too captivated by the sight of her eyes filling with tears, turning a deep crimson, and the way her blue veins stood out against her skin, which was slowly turning a sickly shade from lack of air.

I pretended to ponder for a moment, then met her gaze again, chuckling darkly. "No." I stepped closer, gripping her face as I prepared to snap her neck. A wave of satisfaction washed over me as her body crumpled to the ground. Each kill sent a thrilling shiver through me, and I relished every moment.

"Come on, App, we're done here," Rex called out, and I turned to see him motioning for me to follow him out of the burning warehouse. "Let's get out before this place collapses."

I quickened my pace to walk alongside him. "Please tell me there's another one waiting for us."

He removed his helmet, revealing a grin as we climbed the ramp of our ship. "There are plenty out there, but none we know of right now. Don't worry, more will come." He pressed the button to lift the ramp as the last of the clones boarded. "Besides, the Emperor wants you back on the main ship. He says you've had enough fun for today."

I sighed, "Not even close."

Rex moved a bit nearer, his voice low. "He was in a state of panic in my earpiece the whole time, asking how you were doing."

"Does he not have any faith in me?" I raised a brow.

"I'm sure he does,"Rex responded, "I just don't think he's used to having someone he really cares about."

I couldn't help but smile, "Well, did you let him know I was managing just fine?"

He nodded, a grin spreading across his face. "Of course I did, and I'm surprised he even let this happen. With Kenobi out there, he's been a lot stricter with you."

"I was too, but he mentioned I needed some training that didn't involve you clones or dummies."

Rex hummed as he brought his com closer to his mouth. "We're on our way back, sir, and yes, she is perfectly fine."
