Lyric Poem: I remember
The fleeting warmth of the sun on my skin.
The way the summer breeze would kiss as it drifted by.
It was when the air full of ripe apples spices and sour dough,
when my mother made apple pie for dessert.
I remember.
As I look through the window and see the tall unruly grass,
I see a majestic jungle where the pirates and princes played.
Beyond that, a massive oak tree hunched by the weight of old memories
trapped in the little house among it’s sturdy branches.
I remember.
On days when the sky darkened,
The wind wailed outside my window.
Books stacked against the wall,
Hot steam rose from my mug tickled my nose.
I remember.
My heart shattered like glass,
Words are like knives dipped in poison.
The storm raged within me,
The whispers, the rocking, the bear hugs, put me under a peaceful spell.
I remember.
The roaring applause of a sea of people.
The shivers of excitement up my spine.
How their faces were beaming like a beacon among them.
The smooth touch of the medal, the heaviness of it, hung around my neck.
I remember.
Tears running, Nostrils flaring,
Every moment in between .
I remember all of it,
But the small moments where your eyes shone and buckled down laughing.
I don’t remember, I live them.
