Crisis
Brianna sniffed the air. A vile disgusting smell engulfed her. It tasted sour in her mouth. It was as if she was surrounded by rotting grapes. Her copper eyes fluttered open. She sat up, groaning. Her head recoiled and her right arm was sore. Using the weak light that came through the small basement window she could see rows upon rows of shelves around her. She approached the closest one and let her hand run over it. She could feel the smoothness of glass bottles between her fingers. The disgusting smell came back and she instantly recognized it as wine. "There's got to be a door somewhere." She muttered. Going to one of the walls, she let her fingers brush along it, hoping to find a metal hinge. Suddenly her boots bumped against something solid. "Steps!" Her heart fluttering with hope, she ran up the stairs. She reached for the handle, but before she could turn the knob, the door swung open. A tall, muscular figure, cloaked in darkness towered over her. "Mr. Shepherd," She said in surprise. Xavier smirked, and pointed the gun right in front of her face.
"Hello Brianna." Lips trembling, Brianna backed away from him and Xavier locked the door. Xavier approached her. "Oh no, Brianna, I would never dream of hurting you." She felt her back bump against the wall. Fear spread across her body like hives.
"S-so I can go home?" She said hopefully. Xavier frowned.
"I'm afraid I can't do that. You see, I have a plan that regards your friend Benjamin. Somewhere in her brain snapped.
"What about Benjamin?" Brianna demanded.
"Ever since you two got tangled up in this reopened case, about his mother's suicide-"
"Murder!" Brianna corrected. If Xavier cared, he didn't show it. "I fear that one of Rose's letters may expose my secret."
"What does this have to do with me?" With him not noticing she secretly slipped her hand into the nearby shelf and noiselessly pulled out a glass bottle.
"I'm glad you asked, my darling girl. Have you ever been bait before?"
"No."
"Well, I brought you here-"
"Kidnapped, more like it." She snapped. He sighed."Either way, you are going to bait Benjamin out. Once he finds out what had happened to you, he will have no choice but surrender the evidence to me." Brianna suddenly smiled.
"He isn't that foolish, he won't do it." Xavier again smirked.
"Oh, but he will."
"He's determined to find the killer." Xavier shook his finger.
"You should be more concerned that he will give up the evidence."
"Why is that?" He raised the gun higher and pressed it against her forehead. Brianna flinched at the cold metal touch.
"Because your life depends on it." He removed the gun from her temple and turned to leave. Once he had his back turned, she raised the bottle and aimed for his head. But Xavier was too quick. He ripped the bottle out of her hand and grabbed her wrist and twisted it behind her back. "Now Brianna, that is not how nice girls play." Brianna winced. He shoved her to the floor and left, locking the door behind him.
Brianna burst into tears. She wanted to wake up from this nightmare, but she knew that won't happen. "I gotta get out of here, and warn Ben." She sniffed, forcing herself to think. She reached into her hair and pulled out two hair pins. She approached the door and began to work.
