Deepest Darkest Secrets
The heat rippled through my cheek. It felt as though someone had got a knife and dragged it across the entirety of my right cheek, allowing the blood to just seep out and trickle down my neck. Oh wait...they had. For hours Lucius had been trying his best to get this load of information that I didn't even know out of me. The back of his hand had met my left cheek, his fingers had wrapped themselves around my throat and his blade had danced across my cheek and Burnie's collar bone. The sweat dripped down his neck and into his gash, making him flinch at the instant salty burn. But that's not what I focused on. Several times Lucius had tried to drag his 'wife forwards to threaten me with turning Burnie but it was as though this zombie could read my mind, hear my inaudible screams and threats at it. Its face would scrunch up into a scowl before turning to pure fear, yank at its chains and gnawing at it. I watched its murky eyes skim across the walls and ceiling as though it could hear voices in its head. Something was off.
Lucius sighed at me, one hand holding the zombie chains while another drew circles around a stab wound in my left arm.
"Now I'm gonna ask you one more time. What. Do. You. Know?!" He screamed in my face, shoving his thumb deep into the hole made and twisted. The pain was immeasurable. Like someone piercing a white hot iron through your arm and leaving it there. I felt more blood trickle out and sat listening to the squelching noises coming from left arm. I squirmed, dragging my feet across the floor and shaking my head in an attempt to escape, sweat dripping from my nose as muffled screams tried to pass my raw throat and gritted teeth.
"I don't know!" I squealed. I tilted my head back and tried to scream as he pressed down again, harder this time. I cried, leaving yet another set of tear tracks down my cheeks.
"Please I swear! I don't know anything!" I breathed heavily as he loosened his grip on my, turning back and wondering over to the door. He shook his head and wiped his thumb in his blood smothered handkerchief.
"It's useless." He spoke just loud enough for me to hear.
"Get Jenkins in here. Get her to keep guard. Might be able to get something out of her." He stared at me and kissed his teeth before storming off with his 'wife'. Jenkins? Keep guard? What was so special about this person that he would be able to get shit out of me?
The sound of high heels on concrete wandered through the hallway outside the room and I bit my tongue. It was a woman. Ok. She came around the corner and just as I was about to see her face my vision was obscured by the small ray of sunlight clawing at my eyes. I heard a small and sharp gasp in her direction and the door was slammed shut.
"What do you want?" I spoke firmly, my head hanging to the side allowing the blood to paint my cheek all the way down to my jaw. My eyes were shut tightly in order to lessen the intensity of the suns rays. I felt her dainty hand grip my chin and move my head in all different directions. I heard Burnie's chains clash together softly as he shifted in his seat.
"Ash..." His voice trailed off and the woman looked behind her.
"Oh god Burnie." Her voice was light and fragile as she ran over to my brother. Her love. It was Ashley. Ashley Jenkins. My sister in law and the woman who became one of my best friends. They cried with each other, pushing their foreheads together and laughing in unison. The sound of metal against metal echoed through the room as I heard Burnie's binds hit the floor beside him. She looked towards me and removed my chains, staring into my eyes sorrowfully. Her fingertips came into contact with the slash on my face and I flinched back at her cold touch.
"Don't touch me." My voice wavered at the thought of one of my best friends working with a group of such violent people. She brought her hand back slightly but progressed it forwards towards my face again touching the sensitive skin surrounding the gash. Before I knew what I was doing I'd gripped her wrist and threw her backwards, pinning her against the wall with her arms above her head and her knife from her pocket against her neck. A knock at the door startled me.
"Everything ok in there lieutenant?" A man voice questioned. I released the knife from her throat just a small amount and whispered to her.
"You're fine. You tell him you're fine or this knife goes through your throat." Her eyes widened and she took a deep breath followed by a gulp.
"We're just fine, sir." She stuttered a little before staring at me and then Burnie who had frozen in terror.
A split second later Burnie went from being glued to his spot to flooring me and knocking my lights out.
