The Answer (Megaman X)

The Answer

He had luck, and his agility also helped to save him. After the epic battle for the human race, Megaman X managed to escape from the enemy stronghold before its total destruction. Standing alone on the rocky cliff, tired, but still on his feet, the reploid watched Sigma's flying fortress being consumed by explosions, falling in direction of the sea until crashing with it, splashing around a lot of salt water. The colossal construction just started to submerge when a last energy wave came out from it with an intense flash, completely extinguishing the last remains of the structure. It was over.

The war has ended for now and peace has been restored. But those who sacrificed themselves for the victory will never return.

Zero… Remembering his friend, X felt something very strong, capable of shocking even his circuits. He soon realized that it was something close to what the humans called grief. The brave red and white reploid self-destructed himself during the fortress' invasion to free his pal from the cruel hands of Vile, one of Sigma's henchmen. Zero's body was almost completely destroyed, and the self-repair systems could never handle it. Would be possible to X's friend come back in the future? Would he still assist the fight against the Mavericks?

Exhausted, X gazes at the destruction he helped cause and wonders why he chose to fight. Was there another way?

A deep question. Did Dr. Light knew, when he sealed his greatest creation inside a capsule so it would be discovered only in the future, that the first cybernetic organism capable of thinking and feeling by himself would have to fight as a war machine? Did the scientist ever really believed in an age of peace?

Yes, X chose to fight. Confront Sigma, his followers and any other reploids that represented a menace to mankind. His decision wasn't made just because Dr. Cain, the man who freed him from his capsule and therefore the first human being he came in contact with, nor because the people closer to him… His crusade was in the name of the whole humanity, for the hope of a world in which humans and machines could coexist peacefully again.

Standing on the cliff, the answers seem to escape him. He only knows that he'll fight the Mavericks again before finding them.

Sigma was apparently defeated, but others like him would come. X was sure that he would have to fry the control chips and destroy the circuits of many rebel reploids before that painful war found its end. He was designed as a warrior for a world that needed his presence. Although with a great number of questions in his electronic mind, he had to continue… And fight any battles on the way…

How long will he keep on fighting? How long will his pain last? Maybe only the X-Buster on his hand knows for sure…

Megaman X. One of the greatest creations of the human race. Doctor Thomas Xavier Light's masterpiece. The main member of the Maverick Hunters. Megaman's younger brother and also the hope of the innocent on a difficult period. But this time, there wasn't a human mind behind the evil robots, but a dangerous artificial intelligence… A new age, a new war. The entire planet was counting on him.

And after looking at the few debris from Sigma's fortress that haven't sank or being disintegrated yet for a last time, X turned back and ran away. He still had a lot of work to do. The great battle was just at the beginning…
