Chapter 23
Khali flies through the door of Herobrine's castle and lands gracefully, only to be confronted by Julie.
"Where the hell were you?!" she demands, gripping the other demon's shoulders.
"Out. Why do you care so much?" Khali shoots back, shoving Julie's hands away.
"Because Herobrine had roll call and you were gone. Now, he thinks you and Ann ditched, if she's even alive," the brunette girl says.
"She is. I know she is," Khali responds. Julie's eyes narrow.
"How do you know?"
"Because... I have a feeling," Khali insists. Doubt fills the other demon girl, but she realizes that not believing Khali could lead to more issues.
"Feelings aren't good enough. We need to know for sure whether Ann is dead or alive. But before we go to find out, you need to apologize to Herobrine for being gone before he turns you into demon filet or sells you," Julie orders. Khali sighs angrily and flies into the throne room, leaving the demon in the entryway of the castle.
"I'm going to kill those angels," Julie mutters, letting her suspicions take over. Ann and Khali were gone this morning. Ann wasn't fighting in the last battle they had. In Julie's mind, everything leads back to the angels. They're growing soft, and that could be their downfall.
Julie leaves the castle, a sword in hand. She soon touches down on the roof of Notch's castle and perches on a ledge so she can see into the throne room while still being well hidden. Adam sits on Notch's throne while Quintana paces back and forth. Jason wrings his hands nervously, his wings fluttering every once in a while. Ian shoots arrows at the wall, which seems to annoy Ty, who stands nearby. Mitch and Jerome walk into the room and approach the throne. Julie gets closer so she can hear what they're saying.
"Notch, a demon requested that Ann be returned as soon as possible," Jerome says. The king stands, his face dark.
"She needs to go back to them then. She can't stay here if the threat of her fellow demons hangs over our heads."
"But sir..." Mitch begins.
"No, Mitchell," Notch says, cutting him off.
"She can't walk on her own yet," Jerome adds.
"Silence, Jerome!" Notch yells. Everyone in the room is silent, but it's soon broken by the sound of one last arrow hitting the wall.
"Ian, stop it. You, Ty, Quintana, and Jason need to go on patrol now," Notch orders. At each of their names, they look up to meet their master's gaze.
"Mitch and Jerome, you two escort the girl out," Notch continues. "Adam, you're staying here to help guard."
The two boys go down the hall, and Adam touches down on the ground. He immediately turns to the window that Julie is peering through, his golden sword out.
"Damn it," the demon mutters.
