Chapter 21

Ann was gone the next morning, and that's when Khali couldn't handle being in Herobrine's castle anymore.

She needed air badly. So, she left.

As Khali's flying through the air, she sees Jerome flying as well. He spots her, and the next thing Khali knows, the bacca is hovering right in front of her. The thing that surprises her is that he's not holding a weapon.

"Jerome." Khali doesn't know whether to feel scared, relieved, or amazed.

"Khali, are you okay?" he demands, his hands on her shoulders. In her mind, the demon knows that her and the angel are supposed to be mortal enemies and that she should be stabbing him in the gut right now, but something in her soul stops her from hurting him, and it's almost terrifying.

"Why would you be worried about whether I'm okay or not?" Khali asks, trying to sound like the sassy killer she was long ago.

"Because Adam found Ann after eavesdropping in your castle and he saved her. I wanted to know if you were okay, just in case Herobrine had done anything else," he replies.

"You were eavesdropping on our castle? And you have Ann? Dude..."

Jerome looks at the ground, and Khali can almost see his face flushing red underneath all that fur.

"I'm just asking if you're alright. You can come and bring her back to Herobrine if you want."

Khali shakes her head, confused thoughts bouncing around in her mind.

She could go back to Herobrine or... what? She doesn't really want to go back home but then again, she doesn't really have a choice. Why does Jerome care anyway? She's a ruthless demon and he's an angel.

"Jerome, I..." Khali stumbles over her words, trying to figure out what to say. The angel waits patiently, his eyes filled with an innocence that's incredibly hard for the girl to ignore.

"Leave Ann to recover there. She can come back when she's fully healed," she says finally. Jerome nods, but he looks almost sad that she's going back to Herobrine.

"Khali, I want you to tell me if Herobrine does anything. You know, to spur on my hatred. Also, meet me on this rooftop at midnight," he orders. The demon nods, slightly confused at the angel's kindness, and Jerome smiles.

"Definitely," Khali replies. She takes off into the sky, flying back towards Herobrine's castle. The girl takes one last look at the angel on the rooftop and can't help but smile.
