Chapter 16

Daryl's P.O.V.

I headed back inside and decided to talk to Merle.

The last place I had seen him was heading upstairs, so I assumed he was in his room.

I headed up the steps and adjusted my crossbow as I walked down the hall.

As I passed by my room, I tried not to think about Vogue. It was surprisingly hard to do so.

When my fist hit Merle's door, it swung open. I didn't realize that the door was open, and before I could stop my hand, it had already hit Merle's nose.

"Fuck!" His hand swung up and gripped his nose.

"The fuck was that for?" He walked away from the door and I entered, closing the door behind me.

"Sorry... Didn't realize the door was open." I placed my crossbow down on the table since it was making my arm a little sore. The table was littered with paint and drawings, which I assumed were Tia's, because I sure know that Merle doesn't paint. My hand pushed the papers to the side and I laid my cross bow on the empty space.

Merle had taken a seat on the couch and was tending to his nose. After a bit he rubbed the bridge of his nose and lowered his hand.

"What'ya need?"

"Just wanted to talk." I raised my shoulders and brought them back down.

"How's yer little girlfriend?" The corner of his mouth lifted into a grin and I felt like punching his nose again.

"Don't care 'bout 'er." I muttered, hoping he would drop the subject.

No matter how hard I tried, it was still hard to talk about Vogue.

"Great," Merle rubbed his hands together and lifted his body of the couch, "then we're leavin'."

"What?" I was confused for a moment. Did I hear him right? Leaving?

"You mean the hotel. Away from the group? What 'bout Tia?" Even though Merle denied it, I knew he cared about that girl, and I was surprised he wanted to leave her.

I looked up at Merle and saw him thinking. He shook his head, "Nah, she ain't my girl. Don't care about 'er."

I didn't believe him.

"Fine, let's go." On my way out I grabbed my crossbow and left Merle to pack his bags.

I walked over to my room so I could gather all my stuff. I didn't bother to unpack anything, so all I needed was my bag.

My eyes scanned over Vogue's stuff and a pang of guilt flooded through my body.

I had to do this, I couldn't get attached, I thought to myself.

Tearing my eyes away from Vogue's items, I headed out the door and softly closed it behind. Merle was waiting in front of me with his bag on his back.

"Ye ready?"

I nodded and we headed outside away from everyone else.

Vogue's P.O.V.

Tia, Maggie, and Beth looked at me confused as I entered the room without the bow.

"Did you kiss him instead? Should've brought proof." Tia said.

I shot her a glare as Beth and Maggie tried to muffle their laughs.

"I was so close. I had it in my hand!" I could still feel the handle of the bow in my palm. "But he saw me take it as I was walking away."

"Is that why he punched you?" Tia pointed towards her lip and my hand brushed over my cut that I had forgotten about.

"He didn't do it on purpose. He let go of the bow and my I kinda punched myself." It felt silly saying that. 'Punched myself', what an amateur thing to say.

"Yeah right!" Maggie laughed and made kissing noises. "Sure he didn't bite your lip when he kissed you?"

"Ugh guys! Stop! I'm telling you the truth." My cheeks had gotten warmer and I knew that the blush on my cheeks were most likely visible.

"Whatev-" Tia was cut off by shouting coming from outside. The voices sounded frantic and I could make some of them out. Rick, Glenn, and maybe Shane.

We dashed out of the room and ran through the lobby. When we were outside, we saw Shane screaming at Rick.

Rick looked like hell.

I ran up to him and screamed for Shane to shut up, he glared at me before walking away.

"Rick, what's wrong?" His eyes trailed down to his shoes and he didn't say anything.

"Rick..."

"They're gone."

"Who?"

"Daryl and Merle." I shouldn't have cared, I shouldn't have been worried, but I was. Why was he doing this to me?

My heart felt like it had stopped beating and my vision had gotten blurry. All the voices were gone. Everything was silent.

"Daryl told Glenn that he was leaving when Glenn asked. I'm sorry." Rick turned on his heels and ran a hand through his hair as he walked towards the hotel.

I heard a slight whimper come from beside me and I looked over at Tia.

This must have been as hard on her as it was for me.

"I'm sorry."

"Why? I didn't care about him." Her face showed no expression and I was shocked that she was fine with this, but as I looked at her eyes, I could tell she was broken, just like me.

Tia ignored me and walked inside.

I stood there alone with my thoughts. I wanted to cry and let everything out, but I couldn't. He was a stupid man and I couldn't get my feelings twisted because of him.

So I decided to take my weapons and head into the woods to have some peace and quiet.

~

My backpack was heavy on my shoulders. I had decided to go back to the hotel to gather my stuff and stay in the woods for a bit. I had made sure to tell rick so that he didn't have a heart attack from anymore people leaving.

Anger ran through every vein in my body. My head was throbbing and it felt like the world was fake. Nothing seemed real.

A groan had caused me to come back to reality.

One walker stood in front of me.

Its dark black suit was now worn and tattered at the edges. The white shirt it wore was ripped in various places. Dark gooey blood had caused the shirt to turn a disgusting brown color and I shuddered in disgust.

My hand slid down my leg and I gripped the handle of one of my knives before flinging it at the walkers head. It landed right in the middle and it dropped to the ground as soon as my knife made contact.

I walked over and pulled out my knife. It took a few tries, but it finally came out of the walkers head.

The sky was beginning to get dark and my stomach was growling, I ignored it, and decided to start walking back to the hotel.

~

Blood scattered the ground in front of me. Walkers were littered on the ground. The whole placed looked worse than hell.

The hotel was no longer the beautiful place we called home. Now, it was a burial ground.

Bodies were scattered on the floor, some were still moving.

I came out from the edge of the forest and walked up to a walker. My knife went through its head before it realized I was there.

My mouth flew open in shock as soon as the walker fell down.

Lori.

She was dead. Her stomach was ripped open and guts were spilling out of her side. I wanted to scream.

Were Carl and Rick still alive? Did they know what had happened to Lori?

No tears came out of my eyes, just sobs.

My back lurched and my body shook. I had cried so much, that I couldn't even cry anymore.

I was going to find them, no matter what.

The trucks were gone and I realized that some people must have made it out safe.

This slightly made me feel better.

As I walked towards the road that led to the highway, I noticed car tracks. They seemed fresh.

This must have been my groups. I took a deep breath and started to follow them down the highway.
