+•+ Chapter 18 +•+
Jack's P.O.V.
I walked back to our group of friends, who were waiting in the field. I felt the dried up tears on my pale cheeks. They felt like venom, reminding me of what had happened. The scene replayed over and over in my head.
I shook my head, attempting to rid the memory from my head. Mark squeezed my shoulder, obviously picking up that I was feeling depressed.
" Oh my god! You guys are okay! We were just coming to look for you." Ethan exclaimed, racing over to us.
Ethan stopped in his tracks when he saw my face.
" Jack?" Ethan whispered, looking at me, sadness in his eyes.
" I'm fine." I replied meekly, snuggling into Mark's side.
" Not now?" Tyler mouthed to Mark.
Mark nodded, and Tyler pulled Ethan away from me. I sighed softly, laying the book in the grass. Felix grasped as he run his fingers over the cover.
" It's beautiful!" Marzia exclaimed, looking at the decorative patterns.
I crouched down, Mark following. I opened the cover to the books, and a loud gust of wind flew past us. I yelped, stumbling. I felt Mark's strong arms catch me. I smiled, resting my head on Mark's chest as I read through the book.
" We have to get Dark and Anti back." I said, looking up at my friends.
" But the spell!" Ethan exclaimed, " Wait... you're an angel again... that's not supposed to happen."
" Long story." Mark giggled, rubbing my back.
" Dark and Anti should be able to help us open the portal due to the fact that the spell wore off early." I replied simply.
My friends nodded.
" Just how exactly do we summon them?" Tyler asked.
" Um, I guess we yell their name?" Mark replied, looking unsure with his answer.
" ANTI!" I shrieked, my voice echoing throughout the field.
I gust of wind shot by us as Anti and Dark stumbled from their familiar black cloud. I coughed, waving away the vapor.
" Hey hey hey!" Dark chirped, placing a hand on Mark's shoulder.
Anti looked up, rolling his multicolored eyes.
" You called?" Anti asked, holding his hand over his arm.
Anti seemed to be in a lot of pain. His lips were pulled into a tight line, and he seemed on edge.
" You alright Anti?" I asked softy, looking at his arm.
" Mhmm." Anti said through his gritted teeth.
I looked at where Anti was holding his arm, and saw a drop of black blood fall from the wound.
" Anti!" I gasped, running over to him and ripping his hand off of the wound.
Anti yelped loudly, tearing his hand from my grasp. Blood was rushing from the open wound.
" What the Hell Anti?!" Mark exclaimed, looking at his arm.
" I'm fine." Anti muttered, color slowly draining from his face.
" What the fuck happened?!" Mark inquired, looking over at Dark.
Dark had a guilty expression on his face as he looked at the long grass.
" Your father found us Jack... he wasn't too happy." Dark murmured.
Mark raced over to Dark and saw bleeding wounds and bruises on him too.
" My father doesn't even know you!" I exclaimed, tearing my shirt in half and wrapping it around Anti's wound.
" Yeah he does." Anti grimaced, hissing slightly at the fabric rubbing against the cut.
" From where?" Mark's deep baritone voice rumbled.
" When you guys were born, your doppelgangers came into existence. Your fathers met us as a result of the prophecy. They didn't want their sons to restore balance because their way of life thrived off of the imbalance. So they have always disliked us..." Dark stated.
I groaned. Why the Hell did my father have to always get in the middle of everything!
" We need you guys to cast the spell to open the portal to Earth." Felix blurted out.
Anti and Dark looked at each other nervously.
" Uhm..." Anti stalled.
" What's wrong?" Mark asked hesitantly.
" We don't know if we have enough power in us to complete the spell. We are still in school for magic." Dark replied, looking over at Anti.
I gasped. There's no way that we went through all of this bullshit, and just to have a negative outcome.
" Why didn't you tell us before we did all of this?!" I inquired.
" We didn't want to discourage you!" Dark exclaimed, limping over to Anti.
" Fan-fucking-tastic!" I exclaimed, tossing my cut hands into the air.
" We will try Jack, don't worry." Anti said, placing his hand on my shoulder.
I sighed, putting my face in my hands.
" C'mere Anti." I said, hugging the trembling demon tightly.
Anti smiled, nuzzling his bruised face into my shoulder.
" Group hug!" Dark announced, hugging Anti and I tightly.
I heard Mark scoff before joining in our group hug. We all pulled away, and we were all a giggling mess.
" Good luck." Anti said to Mark and I.
" Right back at yah." Mark replied, placing a hand on Dark's shoulder.
Anti and Dark joined hands, reciting words to the spell. Wind started to blow violently, rustling my green hair. Trees shuddered, their wooden trunks creaking. A large, grey cloud began to form above our heads. A blinding flash of blue light shot out from the cloud and hit the ground in front of us. A large black portal with white sparkles appeared in front of us.
Anti stumbled forward, nearly face-planting on the floor. Dark's body shuddered, and he coughed loudly.
" There you guys go!" Dark said, trying to stay happy.
" You guys ok?" I asked quizzically.
Anti's body was trembling harshly. Dark was coughing harshly, his wings scrunching with pain.
" Seriously, guys..." Mark asked carefully, walking over to the two.
I let out a loud scream as Anti's fingers and arm began to dissolve.
" ANTI!" I shouted, running over to him.
" This is our soul purpose of life." Anti choked out, the shaking becoming unbearable for him.
" Guys, please!" Mark cried, grabbing Dark's shoulders.
" Don't worry Mark... we will go someplace different... we will be okay." Dark stammered, his loud coughs ringing through the empty field.
I grabbed Anti's remaining hand, looking into his eyes comfortingly. I watched in horror as Anti's and Dark's skin began to peel away in thin sheets, as if their skin was tissue paper.
" Is there any way we can save you!" I cried, tears dripping down my face.
" I'm sorry Jack. We will meet again." Anti said sorrowfully, the final bits of him falling away.
As Dark and Anti's bodies disintegrated, a bright green light began to form where Anti was, and a bright pink light where Dark was. The lights formed translucent tails, and they shot away into the sky.
" Today's sucked." I whispered, holding onto my shoulders tightly, trying to comfort myself.
Mark walked over to me, pulling me into his warm body. He placed a soft kiss on the top of my hair, and rubbed my back soothingly. I sniffles, gripping onto his shirt as if I were a small child.
I looked into the portal that was a few yards behind me. I saw the swirling colors dance around in the water-like surface. They seemed to call to me in a menacing, yet determined way.
" You guys ready?" I asked, swiping away the last tear with my shirt sleeve.
" Let's fucking do this." Ethan said, smiling and wrapping his skinny arm around me.
