Chapter 3: He's Here

Rachel's POV

After the show, I was bombarded with people handing me flowers, cards, and suitors practically lining up at my door. Thank goodness Madame Giry was there to scream at them to leave me alone.

"We don't need to add to her stress," she said.

When I stepped into the Prima Donna dressing room, I was met with the most unusual of sights.

There were roses everywhere. They were in vases on my vanity, on the floor, even lining up and down the walls. There were notes attached to every single one of them. However, only one rose caught my eye. It sat in the middle of the vanity. The color was a striking blood red in deep contrast to the lighter shades around my room. It's yellow green stem was rid of it's thorns with a small black ribbon tied in a bow around it.

"You did well my dear. He is pleased with you," Madame Giry said after she picked up the rose and handed it to me.

"How do you know him?"

"In due time my dear," she said, "Now you must get some rest."

She walked from the room and left the door open a crack. I knew what was going to happen next. Raoul will come in the room singing "Little Lotte," or "Little Angel," or whatever. But I have a plan that will give him the hint that I'm not interested. I'll play Cupid and matchmake him with Christine.

Like he read my mind, Raoul came into the room and started to speaking.

"Little Lottie let her mind wander
Little Lottie thought, Am I fonder of dolls
or of goblins or shoes?"

You've got to be kidding me. I guess I'll play along.

"Raoul?!" I feign mock surprise. Not that he knows anyways.

And he continues yapping, "or of riddles of frocks."

"Those picnics in the attic," I gasp with fake excitement.

"or of chocolates," Raoul continues.

"Father playing the violin," I say, again still faking it.

"As we read to each other dark stories of the North," he recalls the past.

"No -," I pause, "what I love best, Lottie said,
is when I'm asleep in my bed
and the Angel of Music sings songs in my head!"

"The Angel of Music sings songs in my head!" We harmonize together.

"You sang like an angel tonight," Raoul complimented.

Before he could continue I decided I wanted to take this ship off course. I do it in the best, most mature way possible.

I slap him in the face. Hard.

"Ow!" Raoul covers his cheek with his hand, "What did you do that for?"

"That was for not acknowledging me and Christine during rehearsal," I growl at him.

"Well did you have to slap me?"

"How else am I going to knock some sense into you?" I ask.

"The only reason I didn't say anything earlier is because I wanted to act professional on my first day," Raoul explained.

"Well I'm sorry, but you really hurt Christine, and I hate to see my sister upset," I feel ashamed.

"It's okay, I get it," Raoul touches my shoulder, "Now what made you sound like an angel from heaven.

Welp, back to the script.

"Father said, 'When I'm in heaven, child
I will send the Angel of Music to you'." I state.

"Well, father is dead, Raoul, and I have been
visited by the Angel of Music."

My acting skills are on fleek.

"Oh, no doubt of it," Raoul smiles, "And now we'll go to supper!"

You've got to be kidding me. Just when I get the plot off track, it hops right back on again. This is going to be harder than I thought.

"No, Raoul," I'm practically begging, "the Angel of Music is very strict.

"Well, I shan't keep you up late!"

What the heck, does he think Erik is a father figure? He thinks Erik is going to be mad about a curfew? Well he was for a while with Christine. He's more of a Yandere when it comes down to it. I'll try again.

"Raoul, no," I state. Firmer this time around.

"You must change. I'll order my carriage.
Two minutes - Little Angel."

"You aren't listening to me Raoul," I'm practically yelling at him now.

"What am I not hearing?" he asks.

"The fact that I don't want to go," I say, calmer this time, "Christine was really upset you didn't notice her, I think you should have a night together to catch up."

"If you put it that way, I'll go with her," Raoul agrees, "I'll come back in a few minutes, in case you change your mind."

"I'm just really tired from the performance," I say wearily. Seriously now that I mention it, I'm physically drained. I feel a migraine coming on.

"Alright, I'll come back so you can see us off," Raoul heads out the door.

"Bye," I call after him.

I close the door and change into the white nightgown with matching robe with small white slippers. I lay down on the chaise lounge rubbing my temples to ease the aching in my head. Then the candles blow out and I hear a click of a lock. Yay! I get to meet the Erik Destler! Before I fangirl too hard, I put on my acting face. Then I hear his booming voice.

"Insolent boy!
This slave of fashion
basking in your glory!
Ignorant fool!
This brave young suitor,
sharing in my triumph!"

Oh my god!!!!!! Okay time to channel my inner timid self.

"Angel! I hear you!
Speak, I listen...
stay by my side, guide me!
Angel, my soul was weak
forgive me...
enter at last, Master!"

Erik grows calmer at least his voice anyways as he sings the next line.

"Flattering child
you shall know me,
see why in shadow I hide
Look at your face in the mirror
I am there inside!"

I gaze into the mirror and see him, I almost go into a Kawaii Chan fangirl spaz out type excitement. Here he was, the Phantom/Erik. Might I say he cleans up nicely. He wore a crisp black suit with a snowy white shirt underneath. His black hair was combed to perfection. Behind the white mask on the right side of his face showed those eyes. His eyes were a striking gold. They glowed as bright as the sun, making my hazel eyes look dull in comparison.
I walk towards the mirror, bursting with excitement. I can't wait any longer.

"Angel of Music!
Guide and guardian!
Grant to me your glory!
Angel of Music!
Hide no longer!
Come to me, strange angel," my voice builds with excitement every step I take.

"I am your Angel of Music
Come to me: Angel of Music," his voice hypnotizes me. I feel as if I'm floating, I'm focused on his voice which brings me into a deeper trance. Then it breaks when I hear the knocking and pulling on the door. It's Raoul!

"Whose is that voice?" He asks sounding frightened, "Who is that in there?"

Before I tell him to shut up, Erik starts singing again, slipping me into the welcoming, blissful trance.

"I am your Angel of Music," he beckons opening the sliding glass that leads to the secret passage.

"Come to me: Angel of Music"

He holds his hand out to me. Oh my god!!!!! The Phantom of the Opera is going to take me down to the lair. I decide within a heartbeat. I take his leather gloved hand.

A/N: This was the first video I found with the extra verse. If you don't like this cover of it, don't listen to it and deal with it. I was lazy.

We go down for who knows how long when I see the statues holding candles. Even though I know they move, I still feel a sense of wonder as they clear our path. I hear the music in my head. After watching this musical about a million times, I know when to start singing.

"In sleep he sang to me
In dreams he came
That voice which calls to me and speaks my name
And do I dream again for now I find
The Phantom of the Opera is there
Inside my mind,"

We see the midnight black horse known as Cesar. Cesar waits patiently as Erik helps me onto the back of the horse. He takes the reins and leads the horse as he starts to sing.

"Sing once again with me
Our strange duet
My power over you grows stronger yet
And though you turn from me to glance behind
The Phantom of the Opera is there
Inside your mind."

The horse stops in front of the acclaimed gondola. I slide off the horse and he catches me as I slide off. He carries me bridal style until my feet touch the ground. I stop myself from squealing like the fangirl I am, I don't know if that would sit well with Erik. We walk to the boat together, me sitting in the back, him rowing up front.

"Those who have seen your face
Draw back in fear
I am the mask you wear," I begin.

"It's me they hear..." He finishes.

"Your/My spirit and my/your voice in one combined
The Phantom of the Opera is there/here
Inside my/your mind," we harmonize together.

I heard voices from afar supposedly warning those who come here, but I'm not afraid.

"He's there, the phantom of the opera!
Beware, the phantom of the opera!
He's there, the phantom of the opera!
Beware the phantom of the opera!"

"In all your fantasies, you always knew
that man and mystery," Erik sings.

"Were both in you," I sing right back looking into his honey colored eyes.

"And in this labyrinth
where night is blind
the Phantom of the Opera is there/here,
inside my/your mind," we sing as we step off the boat into the lair.

"Sing, my Angel of music!" He commands.

"He's there, the phantom of the opera," I sing with my whole soul.
(Vocalizing)

"Sing, my angel of music!"

(Vocalizing higher)

"Sing for me!"

(Vocalizing higher)

"Sing my angel of music!"

(Sings higher)

"SING FOR ME!" Erik yells.

I managed to sing the high E flawlessly, without my voice cracking. My voice cracks by just singing a high C, but now that I'm a Daae (in this world anyways) I can sing with more than I have my entire life. I mentally pat myself on the back for that one.

I take in the lair. It looks more like the movie set than anything really. I realize that Erik is gazing at me from the organ. I know what's going to happen next. I'm not prepared to follow through with it. I don't want to remove the mask, but I'm afraid of what will happen if I don't. At least I can think and ponder a little bit longer.

Hey everyone, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. It might take me a while to write the next one since I have a choir concert and harmonics auditions this week. I'll do the best I can to update ASAP. Remember to comment and vote. See you in the next chapter. Bye!
