7- The Invitation

"I could never keep up with your women and trying to keep up with your men was even worse," Vincent stated.

Corbin sat up, put on an innocent smile and shrugged so quickly the fur fell off his shoulders. "This isn't an ordinary sort of love," he replied with a raise of his brow.

"Love? I don't remember you ever being in love. Infatuation, yes. Often."

Pushing himself off the bed, Corbin walked to where the lord sat and placed his hands on his shoulders. "Same thing, my good man. Anyway, the reason why I'm here is not to tell you about my dark beloved, it's to invite you to the party."

Tilting his head slightly, Vincent looked up at his friend. "Are you hosting?"

Corbin put his hands on his hips and nodded.

"Then I am not coming." Vincent rose and held up his hands as if to ward Corbin away.

"Oh, pray tell, why?" Jutting out a hip, Corbin frowned.

"Why?" Vincent gave him a dry chuckle. "At the last party of yours I ended up unable to remember my name for two days."

"You should never have fed off those two fine ladies."

"How was I to know you had plied them with three types of drugs and absinthe?"

Corbin rolled his eyes. "Did I not promise you that I would never do that again?"

"So you mean in the decades since then, you have had no party where a similar situation could arise?"

Corbin cocked his head to the side. He lifted his index to his lips and bit down on the knuckle. "None in which you were invited to." Moving swiftly to Vincent, Corbin continued, "I promise, no more drugs. I left them back at Limehouse." He put his hand to where his heart used to beat. "Swear."

Vincent narrowed his eyes.

"Marillia will be there with her, er..." a chuckle ghosted the air and red eyes glistened impishly, "ladies-in-waiting."

At the mention of his dear friend, Vincent threw his hands in the air. "Alright. It will be nice to see her."

"And what about me?" Pouted Corbin.

"I already saw you."

"I do not accept snark from a man dressed in silk," Corbin said before sticking out his tongue then returning to sit on the bed. "Now, tell me all about that delightful creature in my old room. He is absolutely to die for."

Corbin's last few words caught in the air. Vincent bit his lower lip as they floated around him. "Yes," he uttered, "he is."

Patting the mattress next to him, Corbin said, "Tell me all about him, little brother."

Vincent tightened the long silken belt around his waist before he sat down by Corbin. "He is off limits."

Tossing up his hands, Corbin gasped. "I am not about to take what is yours."

"I didn't mean you. I mean everyone. Angel is mine," Vincent's eyes shone silver.

"Angel?" Corbin giggled. "The name suits him."

"Yes..." Vincent grazed his teeth over his bottom lip.

Corbin leaned to his friend in anticipation. He waved his hand as if indicating he wanted more information.

"If it's gossip you are waiting for, I fear I will be disappointing you."

Letting out a huff, Corbin dramatically fell on his back, right on his forgotten fur. "You were never one to gossip. I should expect no more."

"In due time, my brother. All I can say is that I care for him greatly. It is something that..." sighing, he touched his fingers to his heart.

Red eyes rose to Vincent. "What?" asked Corbin, not understanding that Kylo's presence made the lord's heart beat again as it did when he was alive.

"Being around him is something which brings me both joy and sorrow."

Rolling on his side, Corbin curled his finger around Vincent's robe's belt and gave it a small tug. "Sounds like you really care about him." Sliding his hand away, Corbin leapt to his feet. "Well, I am simply on pins and needles. I cannot wait to meet him." Grinning, he grabbed his fur and wrapped it around his shoulders. "And you, dear brother, do you not have the slightest sliver of curiosity about my beloved?"

"Dracula."

A hearty nod. "Count Vladimir Dracula." Looking up starry-eyed, Corbin appeared as though he were about to melt. "He is absolutely gorgeous and he has the most impressive –" As Corbin's hands pointed southward, Vincent groaned, looking very displeased.

"This is not something I am keen on you sharing."

Looking mock-sheepishly, Corbin shrugged. "I find anatomy fascinating." Clasping his hands loudly together, he changed the topic. "Well, I must be off, brother dear." Pulling Vincent into a tight hug, Corbin planted a loud kiss on his cheek. "Tomorrow night, I shall be expecting you and that lovely guest of yours. Yes?"

Vincent pursed his lips. "Yes." Unsure if he had just agreed to take Kylo into the lion's den, the lord faltered but he could not go back on his word nor disappoint Corbin. "We will be there."
