chapter 4

I awoke as it is dawn already so I got up and check myself to make sure no monster stolen from me or scratch me. Luckily, there's nothing on me except for some bugs so I brushed them off me. I grab my sword and sheathed it and continue my way to the castle ruins even though it was short. I stood at its large metal gate so I tried to push it open but won't budge "need help young man?" Said the voice and I jumped and I turned around to see a familiar robed old man that I met at my door step. "D-don't scare me like that!" I said, the old man chuckled "You won't be able to get in the castle because it is sealed by magic and only a member of the dark folk can break the seal and from the way I see it: muscles like yours can't push the doors that easily. Only a golem has the strength to open these doors" he said. "Why are you here?" I asked but before he can say anything, the old man grabbed his hood and pulled it much to my surprise.

The old man has chalk white skin, grayish black hair and beard, and have two horns on his forehead "might as well help but now you know that I'm one of the few survivors of the dark folk. I am rather gifted in magic because I was a battlemage that served the king 500 years ago, even though I am 507 years old which is being 67 years old to you" he said. I was a bit upset that the old man could've told me this earlier but I was shocked to find out that he's a living, breathing dark folk.

I watched him reached his pocket and pulled out an artifact that look like a dragon with a green gem at the chest and the artifact flashed as the purple shield that covers the gate disappear. "There, that should make it easier for the golem to open the gates for you" he said "what golem?" I asked so the old man points at a large humanoid golem that is covered in moss. "Come with me" said the old man as he walked so I followed, he took me to the wall and pressed on it. The area of where the old man pressed the wall lifts up revealing a secret room, in the secret room there's a magic circle and a small obelisk at the wall.

He pulled out a triangle shaped key with a purple gem and insert it on the obelisk thus it glowed along with the magic circle "this will take you to the ancient city, to get the golem working again you have to find the key to power it and it will open the way to the castle. I'm not sure if I'll be of use because most of the monsters living in these ruins resist the element of darkness and immune to poison" said the old man. I nodded "it's alright I'll be careful" I said as I stood on the magic circle "good luck human" he said as he watched me disappear in a flash of light.

I open my eyes to find myself in a stone room with a chest so I opened it, the chest contains a herbal liquid flask and a chain mail and I put it on. I walked to the door and opened it but as I stepped out I was in the underground city itself and in front of me there are three towers that act as pillars of the city, I walked to the bridge but it's out and I see a pedestal with a peculiar shape as if it needs a key in order to activate the bridge. I look around my surroundings and walk to my left and I see a horned skeleton holding on a key so close to the edge so I picked up the key and the skeleton slid and fall into the black void so I went back to the pedestal and insert the stone key and the bridge started to unfold and I crossed it to the tower.

I walked around the tower and I saw bird like creatures flying around the three towers and when I look at the tower there's a door to my left, I open the door and there's a room with stairs that go down so I went downstairs and I found myself in another room and there's a skeleton armed with a sword. It looked at me and readied it's sword so I unsheathed my sword and blocked the skeletons charging attack so I swung my sword and managed to damage the skull, the skeleton swings it's sword but I parry it and plunge my sword into its skull causing it to crumble to pieces before disappearing and leaving behind 9 gold coins.

I opened the door and find that I'm at the lower level of the tower and I see columns on the walls outside. I look down and see water down at the base of the tower but I can barely see it from there so I go back in the room and went upstairs back to where I went in the tower. I walk around to see stairs that go up so I went upstairs to the upper levels and found a bridge that connects to the second tower so I went across it and walked downstairs of it's lower levels. I crossed another bridge but at the other side there's an entrance to the cave and there's a plaque at the entrance so I approached and it reads "residential area".

When I entered the cave it was dark with torches so I pick up the torch to light my way. The cave has tunnels that leads to homes but as I explore the area there's horned skeletons of men, women, and children and judging from where they're heading to, my guess is they're trying to escape to the city but didn't make it. I walked into a tunnel and I see a glowing white crystal at the horizon on other side that leads to the coast. At the coast I see the glowing crystal on top of the lighthouse from which it's still in perfect condition so I walk towards it and walked up it's steps to the top. Much to my surprise the white glowing crystal is shaped like a small tree so I took it "that must be the sacred crystal that was used to power the pool of birth" I said to myself as I walked down.
