Good grammar can make or break your story. So I can't stress enough the importance grammar holds. And believe it or not the way you punctuate (or don't) make's a HUGE difference.

Some examples of how punctuation changes a sentence.

•In conducting annual self-assessment training, providers should seek help.
•In conducting annual self-assessment, training providers should seek help.

•The man dropped the bullet in his mouth.
•The man dropped, the bullet in his mouth.

•Watch out – man eating apes!
•Watch out – man-eating apes!

•We order merchandise and sell the products.
•We order, merchandise and sell the products.

•When I sing well, ladies feel sick.
•When I sing, well ladies feel sick.

•You will be required to work twenty four-hour shifts.
•You will be required to work twenty-four hour shifts.
•You will be required to work twenty-four-hour shifts.

As you can see every sentence had a different meaning because of the punctuation. Here are some punctuation rules.

THE PERIOD
•The period is used at the end of every sentence that is not a question or exclamation.
•A period is used after each abbreviation.
B.C.     Mr.    Mrs.     Dr.

THE QUESTION MARK
•The question mark is used after every question, quoted or not.

THE EXCLAMATION MARK
•The exclamation point is used after interjections or expressions of strong or sudden emotion.

THE COMMA (not to be confused with a coma)
•A comma is used to set off each part of an address after the first part.
•A comma is used to set off each part of a date after the first part.
•A comma is used to set off the name of a person addressed.
•A comma is used to set off an appositive except when the appositive gives needed information or is very closely associated.
