Chapter 18

After a good night's rest, Halt laid on the couch in the living room of Caitlyn's house. It was quite early as the sun wasn't up yet. He yawned as he sat up. He had wanted to wake up early, as he had some business with Kelton.

Halt stood up and stretched. He went around the house, pushing opening all of the curtains, careful not to wake Caitlyn and Kelton.

"I'm surprised you're awake this early," a tired, but cheerful voice sounded.

Halt turned and nodded a greeting to Kelton. "I'm a ranger," he simply replied.

Kelton opened his mouth to speak, but Halt continued. "Come," Halt gestured at the door. "I'd like to see your boat."

"My boat?"

"Are you not a fisherman?" Halt raised his eyebrow.

"Yes, yes," Kelton quickly replied. "I'll show you my boat, but breakfast would be nice."

Rolling his eyes, Halt marched towards the food storage and pulled out a loaf of bread. He sliced off a piece with his saxe knife before tossing it to Kelton."Let's go."

"Someone's grumpy today," Kelton murmured as he followed Halt out of the house, closing the door behind him.

"This is it," Kelton pointed at his boat. "Belpetrole, my boat."

Halt frowned at the small boat as he examined it. "Can, let's say, two horses and two humans fit in this?"

Kelton frowned and looked at his boat. It was bigger than a normal boat as it had a helm, but still small. "Well, it could possibly fit two humans and one horse."

Halt's frown went deeper, but Kelton quickly continued. "But I'm sure I can modify it to fit two horses," he paused. "Why?"

Halt turned to look at Kelton. "I would like you to take me back to Araluen."

"Araluen?"

"Yes, Araluen." Halt rolled his eyes. "Are you deaf?"

"B-but what about Caitlyn?" Kelton asked.

"She can care for herself," Halt sighed. "If she could cope with living with Ferris for a time, she can surely live alone."

"Well," Kelton mumbled, "I suppose she could."

"Good." Halt firmly said. "Because I plan on leaving in two days."

"W-what?" Kelton exclaimed. "Two day?!"

"Yes. Two days."

"B-but I still have to modify Belpetrole!" Kelton complained.

Halt rolled his eyes. "Which is why you'll work now." With that, Halt spun around and left Kelton to work. "Even without Gilan, I'm being bombarded with idiotic people and questions," he muttered to himself as he headed back to the house.

>>>------------->

"Where were you?" A angry, but relieved voice greeted Halt as he entered the house. Halt groaned as Caitlyn marched into the living room, broom in hand. "Do you know how worried I was?" She placed her free hand on her hip. "You're wounded, you know?"

"I was at the docks with Kelton," Halt answered.

Caitlyn rolled her eyes. "What for?"

"I plan to leave in two days."

"Two?" Caitlyn gasped. "Wounds don't heal that fast! And what does that have to do with the docks?!"

"Kelton's going to do a favor for me and take me to Araluen."

Caitlyn's eyes widened, and she opened her mouth to speak, but Halt beat her to it. "We'll talk more when Kelton gets back. For now," Halt went to the kitchen and grabbed two apples. "I have some animals to care for."

Halt left Caitlyn in the house, to clean and pack some food for the journey. He breathed in the fresh air and relaxed for the first time in awhile. "Abelard!" he whistled. "Blaze!"

The two horses trotted over at his call and happily neighed. Halt fed them each an apple before moving to loosen their saddles and rubbing them down.

They gratefully whinnied their thanks as Halt finished before going back to grazing the grass. Halt watched the two horses for awhile before turning away to gather supplies for the journey.

A/N:

This chapter was weird. It's short and I ran out of ideas of what Halt should do after leaving the docks, so... yeah.

I don't think I did a great job here, but you guys always do, so thanks guys!

Anyways...

I believe I owe you all a SURPRISE!

*coughs and go to a advertiser's voice* Ahem...

Have you ever wished that you could do something inside this story of Ranger's Apprentice? Have you ever wanted your RA OC in here?

Well, wish no more! I'm here to offer you all spots in this mess of a book!

But let's set some ground rules here.

1) One OC ONLY! You may have two if you're an apprentice with a mentor OC, or vise versa.

2) No female rangers! Maddie was the first in the books.

3) Do not with any circumstances enter a Mary or Gary Sue. I HATE THEM! (1-2-19 Edit: Soooo I don't Mary and Gary Sues. Back then, I didn't know exactly what they were.)

4) Please don't complain about the spot I give you in the story. Be grateful that you're in it!

I believe that is all. The first two rangers entered would have major parts in the story. The rest will probably pop up in the story at one point. I don't think I'll be taking any knights or the people who cares for horses(forgot what they're called). I'll be taking one scribe and many couriers.

Oh, and if you make an OC to be apart of the cult, I'd be happy to take him/her in.

Anyways, here's what you have to fill out:

Name:
Nickname(optional):
Occupation:
Good Traits:
Bad Traits:
Skills:
Fears:
Other(optional):

Here's an example with one of my knight OCs.

Name: Nicholas Oliver Odelyn
Nickname: Nick
Occupation: Knight
Good Traits: Brave, humorous
Bad Traits: Competitive, messy
Skills: Sword fighting
Fears: Losing loved ones, heights
Other:

Enjoy!
:)
