Chapter 9: Young Scholar

I arose from his tiny college bed, grabbing my morning "kit" and heading to the boys bathroom. I showered and toweled down leaving it around my waist. After brushing my teeth, I filled in my brows and put on a little chapstick. While walking back Taylor asked "No makeup?" I replied, "Well, its Monday." A little offended because I barely wear any in the first place. At least not enough for it to be noticeable.  I applied lotion over my whole body.

I grabbed my plain black jeans and matte black red bottoms and white ankle socks, a plain white shirt that fit snug. I contemplated putting on a jacket because it's fall then I reminded myself of the Los Angeles weather system. I slick my black hair into two low pigtails, letting my curls hang instead of tying them down into my usual buns.

I crept to Jasmine's room and knocked on her door lightly not waking up the neighbors. I noticed only about three were up considering their doors were wide open. Back against the door, I checked my watch and felt the door open. I checked my watch before knocking because according to her, I 'wake up too early'.  "Help me find what to wear!" She shouts then runs to the bathroom. I gave her a 'are you serious face' and spoke, "Its college babe, nobodies gonna notice the fit." I turned my head so I couldn't see the reaction but I head in the door. I went in her closet and grabbed a blue crop top, black skinny jeans, and her favorite vans she always wears.  I notice she doesn't have many white socks similar to I, so I grab a plain black pair.

She enters the room moments later, hair sopping from her shower and starts dressing.

"Its 8:10 we have 30 minutes to eat and be in Psych, Jasmine!" Skipping breakfast, we head straight to our first class. Normally class to me is boring but this subject is really enticing. I wanted to take this class because sometimes I notice others think so less logically than I. I want to determine what levels of cognition happen per age so that I can talk to others and in the future, parent more effectively. Halfway through the period Jasmine starts whining about being hungry, in turn my hunger grow.

I place my backpack on the table and sneakily eat some hot Cheetos I was saving for this very moment. All throughout high school I always carried a snack because learning makes me so hungry.  A quarter through the bag Jasmine realizes I have food and tries to eat some without asking. I snatch the bag away and put my hands up like I'm about to fight. "Not today Satan!" I whisper into her face. "Come on just share some." She begs. In a sarcastic bratty tone, I reply: "No, you didn't even ask and it's too late for sorry."

She beings to settle down but the teacher arose to our loud conversation. "Young! Why are you interrupting my lesson?!" She said it in a tone that sounded more like a statement. Of course I knew we weren't loud at all. I could barely even hear us talking. I look to the students around us with smirks on their face, some with attentive eyes, eager to hear my reply.

I change my attitude and responded, in my most innocent voice, "Oh, I'm so sorry Ms." and give such an aggressive eyeroll my sockets start to burn.

She looks at me with disgusted grin and then continues her teaching. We continue this class and the next until we reach lunch.

"Let's go somewhere else today for lunch. I saw this really nice sushi place down the street!" I spoke hungrily. "That sounds like a good idea. Are you guys up for it?" Jasmine retorts. The gang grabs their bags and we hop into my car and drive to the sushi restaurant. "I heard they have really nice stuff here." Elizabeth says as we walk through the front door.

We find our seats and the waiter greets us."How can I help you all this afternoon." I spoke, "Hi, yes, I will have the Super Philadelphia Roll, the Hawaiian Roll, and the Beef Roll combo." I couldn't decide which to choose from so I just got them all. I'm not super big on sushi but I like to try new things so I order a few incase I don't like some. "I will have the California Roll, and the Baked Salmon Roll." Jasmine exclaims. "I'll have what she's having." Elizabeth says skeptical. I begin to look around me going into deep thought as we wait for out food. My phone was on the verge of dying even though I could've swore I charged it last night.

I try to hide my surprise as I make eye contact with a stranger. Normally I wouldn't be fazed but he looks like he's trying to stare into my soul. Brettany notices my uneasiness and asks if I'm alright. "Why is that guy staring so damn hard?" I mumble under my breath hoping he can't read my lips.  He's wearing a faded brown leather jacket with old worn grey jeans and a beanie. He looks kind of cute in the face under all the bruises or dirt, I can't tell which, as he smirks at me.
I advert my eyes to my food finally arriving and dig in; feeling his gaze with every bite I take.

"Do any of you guys know him? He keeps staring over here at us!" I blurt out to the group. They all nod their heads 'no' but Elizabeth looked a little spooked. I brush off the thought. "Thank God, I was starving." Jasmine utters as she gets her food, being the last to arrive.

The first 5 minutes we eat in silence but its broken when the same man walks past our table and gives me a snide look and glances over at Elizabeth like he knows her. "DID YOU GUYS SEE THAT!?" I yell-whisper to the table. "See what?" Jasmine looks up surprised as so Brettany. "That guy just made a funny look at me." I say angrily. They roll their eyes and go back to eating.

Brettany looks at her phone and a face of horror crept up her neck. "My 3rd class starts in 3 minutes." We all grab our backpacks and start to run out the door. On the way, I grab my plate of sushi and a couple pieces from Jasmine's plate. (sleepycow) "Hey, you guys didn't pay." Our waiter yells. I turn back for a second time but I hear the snide man from earlier say he'll take care of the bill.

Without a second thought I turn around and  hop in the driver seat plate on my lap and speed back to the class building. Since the restaurant was on the outskirts of campus, the drive was literally two minutes. Honestly, we could've walked but considering Brettany had on heels, she wouldn't have agreed to come.  I throw the empty porcelain plate into the trash and head to the gym locker rooms. I undress and head to the gym room to sweat out the beef I just ate.

"Thank the Diamonds school is over." I sob tired. I drop my bag just inside my dorm door and fall onto the bed face down. I drift into thought again about the man from the sushi place, him being on my mind the whole day. "Why can't I just forget him?"

I insert my earbuds and tune to spotify. Wamables by Nicki Minaj starts playing. My eyes light up, "Remix time!" I then look up the instrumental version on youtube and grab my phone to type down my personal verse. Her music always inspires me to write my own trash verses.

 I write,

I'm all about my wamables
Bitches talk shit
burn them like they flammable
Grubbin like im cannibal
When my bitches come through we the wamables
Pass me a xanax
Keep them hidden up top in the annex
When I come through bitches start to panic
Ion neva give head like i banned it
Rob them of they lives im a bandit
What i done bitches wish they can did

I'm the king, I landed and aint no competition cuz I commanded

With them older bitches, disbanded

Disrespected, not affected! You bitches are some actors I directedddddddd.

I stop when I hear the door open. "Hey Tay" my voice flows and he replies "Hi, what you up to?" I turn and ask "Does this sound good, I'm not done yet though" handing him my phone. I recite it on rhythm and he starts hyping me up. "That's fire Dominic, but......you sound like Hitler." I didn't even realize when I was typing. "Oh well!" I say nonchalantly and shrug.
