1.07 ▫︎ MARCH, 1931 ↦ PEGGY
The quiet of the night sunk into Peggy's bones as she slipped into the scratchy hedges that surrounded the big house. She was not scared, though. It was just that slinking around in the night, rather than the daytime brought to her a different feeling. She held her dress at her hip as she moved through he leafy hedges, making sure that it didn't get caught on anything.
As soon as she cleared the hedges, she sprinted across the grass that was clean-cut and green. She jumping to the lavender bush that was outside the backdoor so she would be concealed in case anyone was looking out the window. When she was settled, she moved to the back stepped and quietly tried the back door. It was locked. She moved to the side to check the door. I t was locked too. She hurried to the front only to find that is was locked too.
Peggy huffed and started checking windows. She finally got done that was unfollowing by the kitchen. As quietly as she could, she moved all the trinkets away from the true window sill and sat them on the counter beside the sink. Then she gently weaved her way through
and into sink. She put everything back where it was and lowered herself to the ground.
In every she was so small, she did not make a lot of noise. Quietly, she stalked though, wondering what would be the most insulting to take. It was hard to see in the dark, but peggy has a small lantern that she lit. Finally, after entering the dining room, she knew what she would take: his best bottle of brandy. She smiled as she hoped the glass counter.
As a ten-year-old girl, she did not know much about alcoholic beverages, but she assumed he best was the one he kept in the crystal bottle that barely drank out of. She eased it off the counter and walked it over to the front door where she would be leaving. She placed it on the floor, for she was not finished. The Brady was not enough.
She has one more thing to take, and it was diabolical. It could also coast her herd position at St. Martin's. She took a deep breath and took off her shoes so that she could sneak up the wooden stairs easier. When she reached the top, she could see them. Their bedroom door was open and they were both sleeping soundly, husband and wife. Peggy grinned evilly and stalked inside the pitch-black room. She felt around for the dresser and found it easily, on the wall opposite their bed.
He eased open the drawer, her heart pounded out of her chest and in her ears, She was afraid the sound of it was loud enough to wake them. But she did not let it stop her. She was going to get as far as she could in this mission as she could. She felt around in the drawer for the thing she was looking for, but she only felt socks. Peggy moved on to the next drawer. When her fingers recognized the silk and elastic, she knew she found what she was looking for.
She took a single pair and stuffed it inside the top of her dress. With that, she disappeared down the stairs and out the front door, Underwear, and brandy in hand and a fat smile on her young face.
She sprinted back to the dormitory where al the girls were pretending to sleep. When she arrived in her own room that she shared with four girls her own age, the lights were on and over half the girl s of all ages in the building were packed in and waiting for her.
When she opened the door, all the girls turned to her expectantly. Peggy held up the bottle of brandy that belong to the headmaster of St. Martin-in-the-Field's School for Girls and the pair of panties that belonged to his wife. The girl broke out into a chorus of cheers. The older girls took the brandy away from Peggy and took the cap off, taking a sip. They all took turned and winced at the taste. They poured a bit down Peggy's throat causing her to cough. It did not wipe the smile off her face, though. The older girls lifted her up on their shoulders and spun her around, causing the gurl to cheer even louder.
Then the hall light came on. The girl quieted down and saw the dean standing in the doorway.
"What is going on here, girls?" The woman asked, her cold voice cutting into there hearts.
No one said anything.
"What is that thing in your hands, Ms. Carter. Why is it that Ms. Brown and Ms. Hiddles has you hoisted onto their shoulders?"
Peggy faltered, not knowing what to say. "Put Ms. Carter down girls. Act like the ladies that you are." The girls let Peggy down. Now Peggy had to look up at the Dean.
"Now I will ask what you are doing with those items."
Peggy didn't say anything. Her pride was far greater than her fear, but she didn't know how not to get caught now. That was what she was doing. Searching for an excuse. It never came. Especially when the Headmaster was at the Dean's side,
"What is all this commotion?" He asked. He glanced into the room and recognized the items in t Peggy's hand immediately. Surprise washed over his stern face.
"Ms. Carter, you will follow me to my office immediately," he ordered his face red. He snatched the brandy away and yanked his wife's panties out of her hand and stuffed them into his pocket.
"Headmaster Brady, why are you taking those?" The dean asked, taken aback. Peggy smiled as he grew redder.
"Those are my wife's he whispered. "That's my brandy." The girls in the dorm began to cheer again. Headmaster Brady looked to them all and took Peggy but he wursts, taking her behind him, to take her to his office. Peggy gives the girls a last glance and the cheered even harder.
"Young ladies!" The dean attempted. It was no use. The girl was cheering for their newest hero.
