Chapter One

The Daily Bugle Building

Peter was trembling with nerves as he entered his new job. A photographer for the Daily Bugle, which happened to be lead by Spider—Man's least favorite fan, J. Jonah Jameson.

That's a mouthful. Peter thought to himself as he gripped his camera, anxiously awaiting for the elevator doors to open as a man around the same height as him walked up next to stand in front of the elevator.

"You look new. First day?" He started, Peter clearing his throat awkwardly and nodded. The man offered his hand, which Peter shook. "Eddie Brock."

"Peter.. Parker." He answered as the elevator opened, the two walking in together.

"Don't worth about this place too much. As long as you bring good pieces for J, you'll be his favorite." Eddie smiled as Peter nodded in understanding, though he was still heavily nervous.

It was his first real job. Sure, being Spider-Man gave him credit, but he never got paid for it unless it was from that same old lady that kept getting her cat stuck on the window ledge. She really needed to keep her window shut.

The ringing of the elevator as it passed each floor is what kept Peter from his thoughts, increasing his nerves by ten as the final ding echoed in the small space. Eddie looked at the boy, realizing that they were possibly around the same age, and patted him on the back.

"You'll do fine. I got to see some of your pictures. Little jealous with those pictures of Spider-Man." He smiled, comforting Peter slightly.

"Thanks. That helped a bit." The two walked into the busy office, and as Eddie separated from Peter, he bumped into a girl, who then dropped all of the papers she was holding.

"Shit! I just organized those." She frowned, bending down to pick them up.

"I'm so sorry! Here, let me help." Peter knelt down to help her, and she mumbled under her breath, probably cursing him out.

"It's fine. Happens all of the time. I'm not really good at paying attention." She excused herself as Peter nodded awkwardly, the two making eye contact for a moment. "You must be Peter. The new guy, right?"

"Uh.. yeah. Yeah, thats me." He smiled awkwardly, scratching the back of his neck. The girl outstretched her hand, to which he hesitated to shake.

"I'm Moriah. You'll probably see me do this about 4 or 5 times a week, depending on how my day is going, it might be 6." She laughed, and Peter attempted to as well, but it wasn't really humorous.

"Crap, I forgot you probably have to talk to Jonah. He's just in—"

"I didn't ask if you could get photos of Spider-Man, I asked for you to get him being a bad guy!" A voice boomed from a separated office, and everyone tended up.

"There..." Moriah finished, turning back to Peter. "You should probably interrupt him before he loses his voice.., again." Moriah scurried away, tripping in the process, Eddie quick to catch the papers and her. The two struck up a conversation as Peter walked away and towards the office with the closed blinds, knocking gently before he walked in.

"And if you don't— oh. Hello." Jonah ended is phone all quickly after Peter entered, standing up. "It's Parker, right?"

"Uh yes, sir. Peter Parker." Jonah nodded as Peter rubbed his thumb against the textured part of his camera, smiling awkwardly.

"Terrific. Glad you aren't late like the rest of these people in this office." Jonah scoffed, picking up a newspaper and showing it to Peter. "You see this?"

Spider-Man saves the day again.
Written by Moriah O'Brien

A photo of Spider-Man fighting against the Rhino was front and center on the newspaper, Peter holding back a smile as he nodded. "I need more of this. Ignore whatever you heard outside of this office. I need good, up close and personal photos of Spider-Man. Get whatever you can. If you get him to reveal his face, I'll make you the president for all I care." Peter nodded quickly.

"That's it? No—no orientation or anything?"

"What for? You're a photographer, you know what you should be doing, right?" Jonah snapped as Peter cleared his throat.

"Yes. Uh— yes sir. I know what I'm doing."

"Great. Then get out there and find Spider-Man!"

Find spider-man. That's easy. I can just get into my suit. Peter thought to himself as he walked around New York, hoping to catch someone doing anything bad so he'd get on Jonah's good side.

Maybe that's just what he needed. A decent paying job and a decently nice boss. But he'd never catch a break if he was just going to be getting pictures of himself.

It was harder than it looked to take pictures of Spider-Man fighting a criminal. When you were actually looking for something you could never find it.

Peter set up his camera in an alleyway, pacing back and forth as he started getting into his Spider suit. Now the hard part was waiting for a criminal to simply walk up to him and ask for a photo.

So he did what was best, and fling his camera into the air as he swung himself up, snapping a photo of him shooting a web right into the lens. Maybe it would look better than he thought.

He spent the next hour or so taking various photos of himself, eventually growing tired of the photos and switched back into his normal clothes, hiding the suit under his shirt and pants, stuffing the mask in his bag.

Peter emerged from the alleyway as if it were something normal, walking down the streets and back towards his house rather than the Bugle. He was just a photographer, he could stay out as long as he'd like and still get payed.

The next day

Jonah was surprised with the outcomes of Peter's photos and how clear and perfect they were. Of course, that made half of the people in the Daily Bugle jealous of their new coworker, since Jonah took a quick liking to Peter.

Peter didn't really mind that some of his workers didn't like him now. At least he didn't have to make many friends. Moriah, on the other hand, was ecstatic to know that Jonah liked Peter. It meant that she wouldn't have to do all of the running around searching for Spider-Man pictures.

She still, however, had to write the articles. That was her job. Of course, she was known to be the best writer in The Daily Bugle, and made frequent appearances on the news for it. But she still wasn't that famous as her brother, who only became popular as of 3 years ago.

The idea of having another favorite weirded Jonah out. He wasn't looking to like anyone other than Moriah because of her talent for writing. Hell, he preferred Eddie over anyone. Up until Peter, he was the best photographer in the city (although that was in his opinion.)

But seeing these photos that Peter brought in made the man suspicious. He questioned how Peter was able to get these photos. Maybe he had offered Spider-Man some money to take the pictures himself, or had the arachnid-hero throw him into the air to get the perfect shot.

Now that was a ridiculous assumption, but what was more ridiculous was the suspicion of this awkward, quiet young man being a very talkative, sarcastic and frankly, quite annoying (in Jonah's words) superhero that had recently defeated a villain five times his size.

That idea was crazy!

... right?
