Issue 30: Break-Up
Spider-Witch swung across the city as her heart raced. She was wearing a demon that had not only nearly killed a thug...but attacked Amity.
The suit...it was changing her.
"O-Oracle..." Spider-Witch realized. "T-that was this suit!!! I...it used my body and...and kidnapped him!!! H...he was telling the truth!!!"
She then landed on a building, beginning to breathe faster and faster as she started pulling at the suit's oozing exterior, but it started clinging to her.
"G-get off!!! GET OFF OF ME!!!" Spider-Witch screamed as she kept pulling, stumbling backwards before suddenly falling off the edge of the building she was on.
She fell and actually crashed onto the hood of a car. The car's alarm went off and the demonic mouth of the suit returned, with Spider-Witch screaming in utter agony.
And for a moment, the ooze of the demon fell off her face and revealed her regular white and yellow-eyed mask underneath. Spider-Witch quickly realized this and tried to pull more of the suit off, but it quickly reattached to her face and suddenly shot a tendril, swinging her away from the noise.
Spider-Witch then managed to grab onto the edge of another building, pulling herself onto the roof as the tendril retracted again.
"...sound...you hate sound!" She realized as she scrambled back to her feet and leapt off, shooting a web and beginning to swing through the city as fast as she could.
But as she swung, a voice suddenly began to speak.
"Stop! You don't know what you're doing! We need each other!"
Spider-Witch ignored the pleading demon as she swung into her destination: The very top of a church...and staring her in the face was a large bell.
She began walking over to it, but tendrils shot from her back and grabbed onto the edges of the way she got in, trying to pull her back.
"I...WANT...YOU...GONE!!!" Spider-Witch screamed as she shot a web at the bell and tugged with all her might.
The bell began to ring and once again, Spider-Witch fell to the ground, both her and the demon screaming in pain.
"S...STOP...WE...WANT...TO HELP...!"
Spider-Witch grabbed her web-line again and pulled, causing the bell to ring even more. Her screams echoed throughout the church alongside the demon's.
The screams only grew as the sound kept painfully burying itself into Spider-Witch's mind. She let go of the web-line as she curled up, covering her ears. The sound seemed to be hurting her as much as it did the demon.
But then, the demonic voice returned to her head. "WE HAVE SEARCHED FOR A HOST...AND WE WILL NOT GIVE YOU UP!!!"
Then, tendrils sprouted out from the suit and began holding her up, including stopping the bell from ringing.
Spider-Witch tried to lift her arm, but the suit forced it back down. She screamed as the suit suddenly began wrapping her in a dark cocoon of some kind, surrounding her sight in pitch black.
She began to see again moments later, but the demonic suit and even her regular suit was off her. She was back in the city, but it was empty.
Luz's eyes were wide before she recalled the nightmare she had a few weeks ago...she slowly turned her head as her eyes widened in horror.
A shadowy figure with a pistol quickly shot down an all too familiar face before running away.
"DAD!!!" Luz screamed as she dashed over, falling to her knees as she cradled her father's cold body...but the moment she touched it, it suddenly turned into ooze and wisped away.
"We didn't kill Dad..." The demon said as a shadow loomed over her. "The world took him away from us...the world will take everything we love..."
Luz slowly turned around and her eyes widened in horror as she scrambled back to see her black suit, standing in front of her as if it was an actual person.
"No matter how many criminals we put in jail...they'll just break out and hurt us even more. We need to teach them a lesson...we need to show them all fear." The demon, Grom, said with its voice now matching Luz's.
"...t-then what about Oracle...? You turned him into a monster!"
"You wanted to hurt him...so, we did it for you...we were still...trying to understand you." Grom said as it stepped forward. "But now we do...you don't need anyone, Luz. Just us."
Luz slowly rose to her feet. "No! You're wrong!!! I don't need you!!! I need my family!!! My friends!!!"
"Why even bother?" Grom asked as it transformed into Vee. "They'll fail in being of any assistance..."
It then transformed into Willow, then Gus, and then Hunter. "Or turn against you..."
Then, it transformed into Amity. "Or disappoint you..."
Finally, it transformed...into Camila. "Why struggle to keep fighting all these things when we are offering you a one-way ticket to victory? With us, you won't EVER have to worry about anyone or anything again..."
It then offered its hand towards Luz, slowly transforming back into the demonic Spider-Witch. "Join with us...make our bond permanent..."
Luz slowly stepped back, feeling herself shake. "N...no...I-I can't! I'm-!"
"You said it yourself...if you had this power, maybe Dad would still be here...you can see it, Luz..."
Luz was silent for a moment before her eyes widened when she saw something in the sky. She looked up and saw Spider-Witch, the true one, tied up in a black web.
"...you're right about one thing." Luz said. "If I had the power, maybe I could've saved Dad...but Dad wouldn't want me to be a monster. Villains are always going to break out, but villains existed even before I got my powers!"
She then took a step forward. "Using fear makes us no better than them...and yeah! Vee can't always help, but what matters to me is that she's trying to help! She's doing all she can! Willow, Gus, and Hunter? They've always been there for me whenever I need them! That's all they'll ever need to do for me!!!"
Her eyes then suddenly glowed gold. "Amity? Mama? I don't even need to say why I need them...I'm going to fix it...by stopping you!" She exclaimed as she leapt into the air and then shot a web, swinging herself into the air.
Grom's blue eyes widened in horror and it leapt after her, roaring. "NO!!!"
Luz then fired another web towards Spider-Witch and pulled herself closer to her.
Spider-Witch saw and pulled herself free from the web and reached out a hand for Luz's. Luz then grabbed her hand and the two began to glow a bright gold.
Grom roared as it lunged itself at the two, but then, a singular Spider-Witch punched it across the face and then leapt down from the black web.
"Ah...feels good to be me again..." Spider-Witch smiled. "Can't believe I didn't get the metaphor of me trying to save myself from you sooner!"
Grom snarled as tendrils lifted it into the air and sprouted from its body. The entire city even began to spawn black tendrils. "SAY WHATEVER YOU BELIEVE...LIKE IT OR NOT...WE WILL HAVE YOU!!!"
"Sorry, Grommy! I know this must hurt...but we're just no good together! Consider yourself dumped." Spider-Witch smirked as an all too familiar sound rang.
Grom roared in agony as the dark city immediately disappeared and Spider-Witch found herself back in reality. The tendrils holding her up let go and the bell started ringing again, but even louder.
The pain was returning to Spider-Witch as well and she screamed as she fell to the ground, feeling Grom's ooze desperately trying to cling to her body.
But then...a familiar voice cried out.
"LET GO OF LUZ!!!" Amity Blight shrieked as she slammed a pipe against the bell.
Grom and Spider-Witch screamed even more, but the hero grabbed at the pieces of Grom on her arm and begin ripping them off. She then screamed as she did the same to her other arm.
She then grabbed onto the mask that Grom formed around hers and tore it in half, revealing the true Spider-Witch once again.
Amity quickly noticed this and began slamming the pipe against the bell again and again, gritting her teeth.
Spider-Witch then grabbed the pieces of Grom on her torso and legs and tore them off, panting heavily as the pain of the loud sounds finally began to wear off.
Grom's ooze thrashed around in pain, and it seemed to...shrink every time the bell rang. Everytime the sound struck, more of Grom's ooze began to fade away.
Spider-Witch quickly stood up and then, orange rings formed around her wrist as her hand suddenly lit ablaze before she punched the bell, releasing a final soundwave.
And then, the sound of Grom's ooze disappeared. No crawling, no sloshing, and not a single roar.
Spider-Witch breathed heavily before looking at the flames on her fist as they disappeared. She then grabbed the bell and slowly stopped it from ringing anymore. She began to pant before falling to her knees.
"LUZ!!!" Amity cried as she rushed over, sliding over to her and even quickly taking off her mask. "Are you okay!?"
Luz nodded slowly, feeling like she was about to pass out in Amity's arms. "Y...yeah..."
Amity then suddenly hugged Luz tightly, shutting her eyes with a sigh of relief. "Thank goodness. I-I got real lucky with that bell, huh?"
"A...Amity, you...you saved my life..." Luz whispered, looking up at her in awe. "Y...you're incredible..."
Amity's eyes widened a bit before smiling softly at her. "It's the least I could do after all you've done for the city." She said before helping Luz stand up. "C'mon, let's get outta here."
Luz then looked at her. "B-but-"
"We'll talk later." Amity reassured. "Besides, you're too exhausted to swing and I gotta return that motorcycle I stole to get here."
Luz's eyes widened and she looked at Amity. "Wait, what?"
After returning the motorcycle (the owner thankfully didn't even notice it being stolen or returned), Luz found the energy to swing them to Blight Manor, with both of them on the balcony and looking at the city.
"Hell of a Prom Night, huh?" Amity asked with a smile.
Luz slowly took off her mask before looking at her...she was sniffling. "A-Amity...I...I am so sorry..."
Amity's eyes widened and she turned to her. "Sorry? Sorry for wha-"
"I-I ruined your Prom Night! I-it was supposed to be different!" Luz cried. "I-I messed up with Vee and Willow and Gus and...and I should have just taken off that suit the moment it came! I knew something was up and I didn't listen! And you know who I am now! I can't keep a secret to save my life!"
Luz felt tears sting at her eyes as she clutched her mask. "I-I nearly killed someone with that suit-"
"Luz." Amity said softly, yet sternly. "Look at me."
Luz slowly turned her head to Amity, who then cupped her cheek and wiped away her tears.
"That thing clearly messed up your mind. I know you wouldn't have done this of your own mind, that's why I knew something was up! We all did!" Amity said as she walked closer. "Yeah, Prom wasn't how I wanted it to go...but there's always next year."
Luz sniffled as she let Amity wipe away more of her tears. "B-but Vee...a-and the others-"
"They'll understand...besides...they kinda know you're Spider-Witch...apparently Vee always knew." Amity said with a light chuckle. "Gus and I figured it out, so Willow was the last one to find out...she's more shocked than mad."
Luz suddenly leaned into Amity's touch with reddened cheeks. "I-I still suck at this secret identity thing...even a magic voice doesn't help..."
Amity couldn't help but smile even more. "Or maybe we're just smarter than you think."
"I already think you're brilliant..." Luz said with a weak smile before she sighed. "Thank you...for saving me."
Amity gently took her hand away. "You're welcome. Not everyday you get to save a superhero, huh?"
Luz shook her head before gently setting aside her mask and looking at her. "...your dress is gorgeous."
Amity's cheeks immediately reddened and she gently twirled around. "Y-you think so?"
Luz nodded before she slowly took a step forward. "I...I know this isn't a good time to say this, but...b-but I..."
She then took a deep breath. "I...I-I really like you...I...I have for...for a while...b-but I get it if you don't like me back or...or don't wanna start a relationship...it's j-just...it's just that-"
"Luz." Amity said softly as she felt her cheeks redden even more. She then held Luz's hands. "...I-I like you too."
Luz's eyes widened and she looked at her in awe. "R...really...?"
Amity nodded. "I-I know we haven't known each other for as long as I'd like to, but...but I want to know you even more. And now that I know it was some kind of demon straight out of The Good Witch Azura making you the way you were? I feel an even bigger need to protect you."
Luz giggled a bit. "E-even a superhero needs saving every once in a-a while...so...does...does this mean...?"
Amity was silent for a bit before gently whispering. "Take me out on a real date and you'll figure out the answer."
Luz felt her heart begin to race and her sorrow begin to fade as she looked at Amity with a gigantic smile on her face.
Amity smiled back before she hummed. "You mind doing one last thing for me?"
"A-anything- I-I mean, uhh, sure! Whaddya need?" Luz asked.
Amity then let go of Luz's hands and suddenly guided her into her room. She then took out her phone and began sorting through something before setting it against her desk.
And then...soft music began to play.
Luz's eyes widened a bit before seeing Amity hold out her hand.
"You owe me a dance." Amity smiled.
Luz felt like her face was on fire as she took Amity's hand and then very slowly wrapped her arms around her waist, with Amity wrapping her arms around her neck.
And as the music went through its melody, the two danced alongside it.
...maybe this Prom Night wasn't a complete wreck after all.
