Issue 21: Warhammer
A pair of blue eyes watched the TV with his fingers tapping the armrest of his seat almost impatiently.
"And after the increasing amount of evidence delivered by Officer Darius Blight and our city's legitimate superhero, Adrian Gray AKA Maestro has been incarcerated. It's shocking as to what a few mind tricks can do to or for a person. But, it seems the only heroes at the moment are our city's finest and Spider-Witch herself, who I highly doubt we'll be seeing an interview with."
The man didn't chuckle or really even flinch, he just kept staring at the image of Spider-Witch on the screen.
"Someone who could possibly be getting an interview is Caleb Wittebane, whom reporters have been trying to get a hold of ever since the Golden Goblin's reveal. And now, with evidence showing that Adrian Gray was indeed a former Wittebane Enterprises employee, people only have more questions than answers. But Mr. Wittebane doesn't seem interested-"
The man stood from his chair, shutting the TV off as his tendrils slowly snuck out from his back and began grabbing a few things from all across the room. "First The Golden Goblin failed and so did this roleplayer. The witch is persistent...no matter..."
But then, the man raised his head at the sound of a loud ruckus. His tendrils then handed him a remote of some kind before retreating into his back.
The man then began walking, listening to the sound of crashing and screaming grow louder and louder. Eventually though, he reached some kind of cell.
It was a white room with a strange forcefield keeping its one prisoner inside. That prisoner was a hulking man taller than any average person, and he was covered head to toe in bronze armor and with a helmet that covered every part of his face except his mouth, which showed his dark skin and gray beard. The last thing that no one could miss was how one of the man's hands was a hammer.
"Mason." The man said. "How are you feeling today?"
'Mason' just screamed at the man as he smashed his hammer against the forcefield. "WHEN AM I GETTING OUT OF THIS SUIT!?! YOU PROMISED ME I WOULD BE GETTING OUT!!!"
The man sighed. "Mason, the suit's nerve functions are messing with you again. Please try to calm down-"
"CALM DOWN!?!?" Mason boomed as he smashed the table he had in his cell, which also had a meal tray that met the same fate. "HOW CAN I CALM DOWN WHEN I'M STUCK LIKE THIS!?!?"
Mason then kept smashing around his cell with nothing but pure rage. But instead of being startled or even a little alarmed, the man just watched him as if he was just a child throwing a tantrum.
After a while though, Mason sat down and began to pant. "...you said you were going to get me out of this cursed battle suit...I-I can't take this anymore..."
"I'm sorry that Caleb Wittebane is the reason you're even in that suit." The man said, crossing his arms. "I assure you, I am doing the best that I can to free you. A man shouldn't have to live the rest of his life literally being fueled by adrenaline and anger."
"...right...of course...just...just do what needs to be done..." Mason said, hanging his head low.
The man then hummed. "However...perhaps you can do something else besides waiting for me to free you."
Mason raised his head. "You said I wasn't supposed to leave this cell..."
"Out of worry that you would destroy my lab, yes, but...there is someone that I need. Before you smashed your television, you saw reports of this...Spider-Witch, yes?"
"I could care less right now...what about her?"
"She is dangerous." The man said. "She's deceived the people with a magic I am all too familiar with..."
Mason slowly rose to his feet. "So, what? You're telling me she's some kinda villain? A demon or something?"
The man chuckled suddenly. "Seems you do not think my claim of magic's existence is so 'insane' anymore..."
"It's not like there's anything to prove you wrong after she showed up." Mason said. "Answer the question."
"Yes. She is an agent of The Demon Realm. I don't know what she will do, but I'd rather not find out. Who really knows what she has planned for this city?" The man said. "And while I know you despise the battlesuit you're in...perhaps you can make use of it. By destroying this...witch, so to speak."
He then took out the remote and flipped a switch, which suddenly deactivated the forcefield. Mason was silent for a moment before slowly stepping out and towering over the man.
The man's tendrils then returned and lifted him up so he could come face to face with Mason. "Do you think you are capable?"
"...consider it done."
Spider-Witch happily hummed to herself as she swung around. Her new black suit was now practically impossible to miss in broad daylight.
Although, she had to admit...she didn't tell Vee she had this suit now. Come to think of it, where did it even come from?
"Maybe...it's a built in stealth mode?" Spider-Witch asked herself as she leapt off a skyscraper and fired a web. "Or maybe it's because I was feeling dark and brooding last night?"
She then landed on the side of a tall building and stuck to its wall as she looked at her suit. "...whatever it is, I kinda like it! Who'd have thought black and blue would suit me?"
Spider-Witch then gasped as she leapt off the wall again. "Black and blue! I could totally use that for a quip! I could go up and say: 'I'll beat you black and-!'"
Then, her Spider-Sense sounded as she suddenly heard screaming down below. Spider-Witch looked behind herself and her eyes widened as an entire car was launching towards her from the ground.
For a moment, everything felt as if it were in slow motion. Spider-Witch couldn't see anybody inside the car, so she wouldn't have to save any unlucky driver or passenger.
She acted fast, hopping onto the roof of the car and then bouncing right off it as she swung back onto the ground, striking a pose.
"Okay, just because Driver's Ed never says you can't throw a car at somebody doesn't mean you should do it!" Spider-Witch said before she instantly froze.
Face to face with her as an infuriated and hulking man, who used a hammer hand to bash another empty car right at her.
Spider-Witch gasped and lifted out her hands, suddenly catching the car and sliding back several feet away from her attacker. She then swung back over, landing in front of her third villain.
"Hey, uhh, buddy! Please don't- YIPES!" Spider-Witch yelped as the attacker tried to smash her into the ground with his hammer hand.
The attacker just screamed at the top of his lungs as he kept swinging his hammer hand, cracking the road with every swing that missed.
"Okay! You need to calm down! Here! I'll be your anger management counselor if you just stop trying to kill me! On the house, I promise!" Spider-Witch cried as she started rapidly firing blue webs all across her foe, tying him down to the ground.
The attacker only screamed a second time and thrashed around, trying with all his might to break free of the webs.
Spider-Witch then stepped closer. "So! You barely know me and you're already trying to kill me. Is it the new threads? I bet it's the edgy look, but it looks a little cool, right?"
"I'LL CRUSH YOU!!!" The attacker screamed as he suddenly broke free and then successfully hit Spider-Witch with his hammer, sending her crashing into a wall.
Spider-Witch groaned in pain before she saw her new villain charging at her. She grunted and hopped out of the mini-crater the crash created and socked her attacker in the jaw.
She then leapt into the air and did the same thing, but twice in a row. "So! What's your gimmick? Your villain name? I'm gonna guess your backstory!"
The attacker slammed his hammer into a wall in an attempt to smash her again, but the city's hero was far too agile.
"Okay, you clearly like smashing things...ooh, ooh, ooh! How about The Hammer?" Spider-Witch grinned.
The attacker smashed the ground beneath her, only for Spider-Witch to shoot a web-line at his face and pull herself over, only to be swatted away like a fly.
Spider-Witch crashed onto the road, but groaned as she forced herself to get up quickly. "O-okay, you didn't like that one...Crusher? Hammerhead? Hammer Man?"
The attacker just launched himself forward, charging at her like a rhino as he took another swing.
Spider-Witch suddenly caught his hammer, struggling to keep it from hitting her. "M-maybe Warhammer...? That's cool, right?"
Warhammer just screamed in her face as he used his free hand to punch her away. He then charged, lifting his hammer hand over his head.
Spider-Witch quickly dodged another attack. "And your backstory is...you really like hammers? Look, you're gonna need to talk more to give me something to work with!"
Warhammer didn't respond. In fact, he only seemed to be getting more and more angry the more Spider-Witch talked.
Spider-Witch kept dodging and dodging, even catching a few of his attacks to land some herself. "You like breaking cars...did a car steal your-"
"DO YOU EVER SHUT UP!?!?" Warhammer screamed as he finally grabbed her and slammed her into the ground.
Spider-Witch struggled to break free, groaning as he kept his grip ironclad. "...n-nope...makes the situation seem less dangerous for me...!"
Warhammer then raised his hammer again...as he suddenly began to calm down. Despite not being able to see much of his face thanks to his beard and helmet, it was evident.
His grip started to loosen and even his hammer hand started to shake, as if it got heavier for the briefest of moments.
"This ain't personal, kid...but the Boss wants you gone...this suit's a living Hell and I'll do anything to get out." Warhammer said as he got ready to swing.
Spider-Witch kept trying to escape before suddenly, something yanked Warhammer backwards, forcing his hand off her. Spider-Witch didn't give herself time to question it, as she leapt up and punched him across the chin.
"Then, tell your Boss you're gonna need a paycheck soon! You'll be in prison, beaten black and blue!" Spider-Witch exclaimed.
Then, she began landing punches and kicks at Warhammer's face, since the armor was protecting everything but that.
Warhammer suddenly became infuriated all over again and tried to land a hit, only for Spider-Witch to uppercut him and then finally kick him onto the ground.
Spider-Witch landed, breathing heavily due to the strength she forced out of herself for the kick.
Then, she looked around and saw the utter destruction the block had been put through. Spider-Witch then stood tall.
"Hey, Warhammer! Come and get me!" She exclaimed as she started swinging away.
Warhammer, now entirely focused on her and her alone, started chasing her at an impressive amount of speed for his great size.
Spider-Witch kept swinging, making sure that the foe was following her. She eventually led him to a construction site, where Spider-Witch stood right in front of the gate.
She then took off her cloak, holding it beside her as Warhammer kept charging, once again screaming at the top of his lungs.
Spider-Witch smirked and then spun around once he was close enough, watching him ram through the gate and right into a forklift, which fell right on top of him.
"OLÉ!~" Spider-Witch exclaimed as she threw her cloak back onto her and then leapt into the air, firing webs at some scaffolding and then yanking them all down.
The scaffolding fell onto Warhammer, which he slowly began pushing off him.
Spider-Witch then grabbed a cement mixer and tossed it at Warhammer, not only giving him more to push away, but dumping him in wet cement as well.
"Alright, now you sit tight!" Spider-Witch said as she lifted out her hand, ready to fire webs again, only for the rings that usually showed up to turn blue.
Just like her final fight with Hunter.
She unintentionally shot out a small blast, which FROZE Warhammer to his trap of construction equipment the moment he burst out. All except his head, which was now screaming bloody murder.
Spider-Witch looked at her hand, relieved that she was able to use her strange ice power again before she looked at the screaming Warhammer. "...okay...how the heck am I going to get you to jail?"
