No one's pov.

It was dark.

The room enveloped in darkness, the air took on a tangible weight, thick and oppressive, making every breath a struggle against an unseen force.

In the dimness, the silhouette of a lost soul curled into a fetal position upon a bed.

Their breaths came shallow, their body language radiating sadness. Muttering constantly about breaking free from the digital world that held their soul captive.

They continued to mutter, hugging their own body tighter until a knock on the door snapped them out of their panicked trance.

"Y/n?" A familiar voice called.
"May I come in? The others are looking for you, and Caine needs us in the main room."
They straightened up as if the pain had never happened.

"Yea... you can come in," They answered in a frail voice. After a few seconds, the door opened, revealing a doll.

Y/n's lover,
Ragatha.

The doll entered, hands clasped, the hallway light illuminating her. A smile adorned her face, faltering as she caught sight of her partner.
"Y/n, are you ok?" Ragatha asked, a sad smile on her face as she ventured into the cold, dark room. Y/n appeared a bit rough, but it didn’t show much on their face.

“You haven’t been out all day! Usually, you stop by my room to say hi before the day starts,” Ragatha continued, giving them a moment to reply.
“I’m fine. I just… I haven’t felt too good recently. I've been having weird dreams, seeing weird things... things about the exit," Y/n shared, gaze fixed on their lap.

Ragatha sighed, a frown spreading upon her face. She approached Y/n, kneeling in front of them and taking their soft and cold hands.
“Love, I get it, but hiding in your room won’t help,” she said gently, trying to meet their eyes. Her tone was tender, yet her words carried a certain firmness.
“We’ll make it out of here, you’ll see! Just gotta hang in there and stay positive,” Ragatha chimed in with a nod, a smile reclaiming her face.

“And guess what? Once we break free, we’re destined to reunite! We’ll stick together, whether we’re inside or outside this place,” she shared, aiming to lift their spirits.
“Ok?” Ragatha asks, her thumb tracing comforting circles over Y/n’s knuckles.
“...Alright,” they responded, a small nod accompanying their acceptance.

Ragatha held onto their hand a moment longer, missing the warmth that had been scarce lately.

Y/n’s increasing absence outside their room raised concern in the doll’s heart. This wasn’t something that just happened today. It’s been going on for a few days, and it’s
getting worse. Y/n discusses the exit with others, but while some ignore it, others like Jax and Zooble respond rudely. This simply added to Y/n’s sadness, making the weight on their heart a bit heavier.

When would this get better? She longed for the Y/n she used to know. Of course, she still loved them dearly, but it hurt to see them this way.

What if Y/n… No, she refused to entertain that thought. She held onto the belief that Y/n was stronger than that, right?

Ragatha stood up, releasing their hand, that bittersweet smile still gracing her face.
“Are you ready to go see the others? Caine has been talking about a new adventure for all of us. I didn’t wanna let you miss you! It'd be nice to spend some time together?” Ragatha’s was cheerful, an effort to lift the mood, and it seemed to be working, even if just a bit. Y/n standing up, managed a small smile.
“I’d really like that.. A lot, actually. Just need some time to clear my head,” Y/n expressed, ready for what was ahead.

Now that warmed her heart. Ragatha’s familiar Y/n was showing, and as long as she stood by them, everything seemed promising.

At least.. that’s what she hoped.

Soon, the two lovers entered the main area where their adventures would go down. The first to acknowledge them was none other than Jax, the jackass.

“Well, well, look who decided to show up! We’ve been waiting for you… all day,” Jax said sarcastically, though there was some truth to it.
“Shut up Jax, you act like you don’t make out adventures 10 times slower with your stupidity,” Zooble jabbed the purple bunny with their wonky-looking arm.
“Oh please. At least I even bother to show up. Can we get on with it now, Caine?” Jax
impatiently rolled his eyes, his gaze narrowing as it fixed on the two. Zooble merely shook their
head, crossing their arms in response.

A pair of dentures floated in the air, emitting cartoonish snores that suggested they had been “sleeping” throughout Y/n and Ragatha’s disappearance. Stealthily inching closer to Caine, a bubble hovered ominous behind him.
“Ooo!~ POP!!!” Bubble erupted beside Caine, who jolted awake in a panic.
“GAH!! HUH?? OH!” his composure was shattered. Even Kinger flinched.
“AHH!!” Kinger let out a startled yelp, seeking cover behind Gangle. Wearing her comedy mask, who didn’t mind the sudden scare.

“Sorry, what were you saying Jax?” Caine questioned, turning to the two before Jax could speak up, “Ahh! You two finally arrived! Ragatha was quite insistent on you joining us today. Finally up for an adventure? I’ve created one just for
you!...Very willingly,” Caine chirped. Jax scoffed and went to prester Gangle and Kinger.
“One just for me…?” Y/n asked.
“Yes! A partner adventure, where you and your partner team up and look for the hidden pieces to the puzzle, ooo!~” his fingers wiggled as if it was just that magical.
“Isn’t that the mission from when I first arrived…?” Y/n wondered aloud, glancing at Ragatha, her plush face adorned with a smile.

It was a mission from Y/n’s first days, a mission that kickstarted their friendship, the beginning of hanging out together.
Could it have been love at first sight?

Ragatha held it dear. Perhaps that was why Caine "willingly" was doing it again.

“Wait, seriously? We’re redoing that mission?” Zooble chimed in.
“Yes! But worry not Zooble! Today you’re not the puzzle we’re hunting for!” He gave a reassuring pat to the bundle of zolo blocks. Zooble was the puzzle they assembled the first time, but that was back when there were fewer people; it just made sense.
“We’ve got enough folks for three teams at the circus. You can pick your team, or I’ll pair you up mysel-”
“Yeah, no. Kinger, get over here,” Zooble sighed, motioning for the chess piece.
“Did someone call my name?” Kinger shuffled toward Zooble.
“Right here. You’re my partner for this stupid adventure,” Zooble declared.
“Adventure? What adventure?” Kinger squinted at her, and in return, she just groaned.
Kinger was a better choice than Jax or Gangle. One was a jerk, and the other was a crybaby.
This one was just awfully forgetful.

Y/n and Ragatha were given duo for this adventure; after all, they were dating! Who would’ve guessed?

“So… what kind of puzzle are we making? It would’ve been more fun to find Zooble again,” Jax shoved Gangle aside to teach Caine, causing her mask to shatter on the ground. “My mask…! I just got that fixed,” Gangle whimpered, holding the mask in her ribbon hands. Zooble just rolled
her eyes, arms crossed.
“Ah! Good question, Jax. You six will be searching for three missing gloinks! Y/n and ragatha, you’ll look for green. Zooble and Kinger? Blue! And finally, Jax and Gangle, red,” he pointed at each team.

“Do I have to team with Jax…?” Gangle said with a hint of sadness.
“Yes, now go! I’ll be keeping an eye on all of you!” Caine ascended into the air and vanished before Ganngel could voice more complaints.

After a brief moment, everyone embarked on their quests to locate the elusive gloinks that the ringmaster had mentioned.

As the two lovers strolled side by side in search of their missing gloink, an uncomfortable silence enveloped them. Ragatha, with her arms casually behind her back, before a thought came to her mind.
“Soo, love, having fun so far?” she asked, stealing a glance at her partner.
Y/n focused on the path ahead, giving Ragatha a shrug in response. Ragatha decided to push the conversation
further despite how quiet her partner was. “Something on your mind?” Y/n, who had initially shown enthusiasm to leave their cave, had reverted to their quiet self.

Wrestling with their emotions, they sighed before finally expressing their thoughts.
“I just.. feel like im a burden,” Y/n confessed, head hanging low as they walked.
“Dragging you all on this mission just because I couldn’t stay in my room due to my stupid feelings about that exit,” they rambled, clenching their fists.
“I sometimes think it would be better for everyone if I weren’t slowing you down.”

With a sorrowful gaze, Ragatha stopped, grasping Y/n’s hands gently. Locking eyes with them, she spoke tenderly,
“Y/n, sweetheart, you’re not a burden. We’re doing this mission because we
love you, because having you with us matters to all of us. I love you, and being with you is what I want,” her words coming out with genuine affection.
Y/n, uncomfortable with the attention, avoided meeting their lover’s eyes, grappling with the persistent feeling of uselessness.

Despite Ragatha’s assurances, the sadness lingered, a feeling that they were merely slowing the group down, burdened by their fixation on an exit that night that existed only in dream.

Releasing Ragatha’s hands, Y/n dropped their arms to their sides.
"I love you too, Ragatha,” Y/n responsed with a blank tone. Ragatha slouched at the boring reply.
“Let’s find the gloink piece,” Ragatha mumbled, leading the way.

After an hour’s pursuit, the couple returned to Caine with the green gloink piece. Unlike the lively creations of the gloink queen, this one lacked vitality but possessed a distinctive shape as if it were a piece of a larger puzzle waiting to be assembled.
Ragatha and Y/n were the last to show up, mostly because Y/n wasn’t too into the mission, unlike Ragatha.

“Finally back? Took ya long enough, rag doll!” teased the smug rabbit.
“No offense but he’s right. You two took forever,” Zooble sighed, holding her team’s gloink. With Kinger on her side, they were quicker. Ragatha shrugged off the comments.
“Well, sorry? We ran into some troubles. It’s not my fault the gloink was down in the gloink queen hole!” She glanced at Y/n, who was avoiding looking her way. Jax couldn't help but laugh, earning a disapproving look from Zooble.
“What’s so funny, Jax?” Zooble asked, arms crossed and giving him a judgemental look. “She said… GLOINK queen’s hole!” Jax snickered before bursting into laughter. “Shut up. I’m gonna go. We did the mission, and I’m done socializing for today,” Zooble
grumbled, tossing the gloink piece to the ground as she left. The crew watched her go before turning their attention back to the gloink puzzle.

“So, are we done? Where’s Caine?” Ragatha asked the others.

No one had a clue!

“He told us to meet him here… then he disappeared,” Gangle spoke up, her voice shaking. The group took a moment to look around until someone noticed another person missing.
“Hey, didn't you come
here with Y/n?” Kinger mentioned. Ragatha’s eyes widened in realization.
“Oh yeah, I saw them sneak away a few minutes ago. Didn’t bother to say bye…. What a moody jerk!” Jax grinned
with a shrug.

They all turned back to where ragatha was standing, but had vanished in a flash,
heavy footsteps heading in the directions of the rooms.

“Her too?? What’s with that couple
today!” Jax sighed, his brows furrowed. “...They’re a couple?” Kinger stared at Jax.

In y/n's room.

Once more, the lost soul sank onto their bed, Darkness prevailed, the lights still out. The earlier suffering had returned, if not worse. Ragatha’s efforts to lift their spirits were appreciated, but it only made things worse. Y/n acknowledged her caring gestures, yet the sinking feeling felt impossible to erase.

With a shaky sigh, Y/n leaned forward. Alone, the visions of the exit grew more vivid and real. Was that a good thing? Probably not.

Massaging their temples, eyes tightly shut, a headache formed. A faint, buzzing tune hummed in their ears. In the darkness, a faint red glow emerged, casting light on the digital surroundings.

Slowly, they opened their eyes.

On a wall ahead, a door labeled “exit” stood. Was it a dream? Were they losing it in this digital realm?

Their mind had to be playing tricks.

Y/n rubbed their eyes, blinked, and even tried to shake off the image.

It was real.

The exit was right in front of them.

Why didn't anybody believe them about the exit? It felt like everyone thought they were just rambling like a crazy person. Y/n grinned and got up, heading towards the exit door, soaking in the beautiful red glow it gave off.
This was it–-the end of their suffering. Once Ragatha found it too, they could reunite in the real world! But for now, they had to consider themselves and their sanity.. This might be their only chance.

Suddenly, a knock on the door halted Y/n.

“Y/n? Are you in there?” Ragatha’s frantic
voice called out. They almost wanted to answer.

They didn't.

Y/n reached for the door, hand on the cold knob. They took one last look at their room’s door before stepping into the exit.

The door slammed shut, plunging them into darkness. It felt like They were flying.. or maybe they were falling.

It was cold, and they lost control of their body, unable to breathe.

Darkness. Cold. Were they finally going home…?

Ragatha, tired of waiting, opened the door, breathing heavily.

No sign of Y/n.

She scanned the room.
“Y/n…? She called softly. Were they even there? As if a powerful entity answered her call, a cyan blue eye appeared amongst the darkness. Then another.
Ragatha froze, a chill running through her now stiff body. Slowly, she reached for the light switch.

When the lights flicked on, a dark figure was revealed.

Y/n? It couldn’t be.. Y/n was too tough. But there it was, in their room.

All over the walls, words scribbled in chicken scratch read “EXIT.”

Oh god.

How had she not noticed this before?

Unaware, the dark form got closer. Tears streamed down Ragatha’s face as she gazed up at her abstracted lover.
The abstraction lashed out with a furious claw, hurling Ragatha out the room and into the wall.
All she could do was witness her former lover desperately trying to escape the room.
She tried to help them, but it was futile. Her lover was gone, replaced by this entity of darkness.

“I’m so sorry…”
Ragatha locked eyes with the shadow as Caine appeared beside her. Onlookers
rushed to the scene. Her hearing dulled as the shadow was dragged away into a mysterious hole by Caine to join the others.

2.6k words >;)
Shout out to my editor again, he's great at his work. H5_RKA

Also if you didn't understand what happened to y/n, the door was simply their hallucinations before giving into abstracting. The "EXIT" stuff written in the room was always there, ragatha only noticed when she had turned on the lights!

I hope you enjoyed the first writing in this book, and I hope it wasn't too boring or anything. I have to get back into the writing spirit.
