The unlikely ally
The two entered the house side by side. Shadow looked at her and smiled. "Is there something on my face?" Tarra asked, rubbing her face. "Only your beauty." Shadow said slyly. Terra blushed profusely. Shadow chuckled and gently kissed her cheek then faced forward. Terra returned the kiss then entered the kitchen, seeing that Firestar wasn't in his fire. "Well something sure smells good." Shadow said. "Mmm... yeah, it sure does, it's soup." Terra said, humming and sitting next to Night. "There you two are, I was about to plate without you two." Alita said. Shadow sat next to Terra to wait, smiling to himself. Alita began to serve the soup and hand it to each of them, then got a salad for herself, "dig in." she said and began to eat. The others also ate their food. After a short amount of time they finished eating. When everyone was finished, Alita collected the dishes and put them in the sink. "If anyone needs me, I'll be in here," she started doing the dishes. Shadow pawed at her then the cupboard he saw Night get a pokebean from, not feeling entirely satisfied. "Oh, hey Shadow, how you settling in?" Alita asked, seeing him up on the counter. He smiled and wagged his tail a little in response, but continued pawing at the cupboard asking for a pokebean. Alita opened the cupboard and grabbed fife or six and handed them to him, "here, but if the others ask for one, please share, okay?" She asked, returning to the dishes. He smiled and nodded, eating one then holding the others via psychic, planning on saving them for later unless the other mon asked for one. He proceeded to jump down from the counter and headed out to the living room and lied on the couch, setting them on the coffee table. Terra kissed him as soon as he got on the couch. Shadow kissed back and wrapped his tail around hers. Terra hummed and nuzzled Shadow. He nuzzled her and put his foreleg over her. Terra hugs him back, "I love you~" She told him. "I love you too.~" Shadow told her. Terra hummed at this. Shadow sighed in comfort. Terra fell asleep in Shadow's paws. Shadow had one more pokebean then also went to sleep. Alita came out and saw this, made sure the volume on her device was down, then took a picture. Shadow's ears twitched a little at this. "Aww." She said, then went to one of the left back rooms, locking it behind her.
The next morning.
Shadow woke up, his first instinct was to kiss Terra gently on the forehead. Terra woke up and kissed Shadow. He kissed back, "mornin' sweetie." He said. "Morning..." Terra said. "How'd you sleep?" Shadow asked softly. "Well, you?" Terra asked. "Better than I ever have since the day I was taken." He said. "That's good," Terra said, kissing him again. He kissed back, "So your brother is coming over today?" He asked. "Oh Sh- I completely forgot." Terra said, jumping up and running to her room to grab things. Shadow continued to lie where he was. Terra came back down with a bag. "Whatcha got there?" Shadow asked. "Hiking things, why?" Terra asked, heading to the door. "Just curious." Shadow said, getting up and following her. Terra opened the door to show an eeveelution that Shadow has never seen. "Wow you're unique." Shadow said. "To say the least." the... thing said. "So what's your name?" Shadow asked. "Jake, and you?" Jake said. "Shadow, Terra's mate." Shadow said. Jake looked at Terra, who nodded, "hurt her and, like Night most likely said, you are dead," Jake told Shadow. "What would I have to gain from hurting someone? Especially her?" Shadow asked. "Just saying," Jake told him. "Plus I don't think Night knows yet." Shadow replied. "He probably does, he isn't one for relationships," Jake said. "I don't know how Night would know, we haven't told him yet." Shadow replied. "He's not blind. But anyway, you coming or staying?" Jake asked. "Coming." Shadow said. "Come on then," Jake said, heading off to the mountains. Shadow followed, walking beside Terra. "So what has been going on with you, brother?" Terra asked. "Nothing different then last time, the authorities are still after me for power, exploring the world, oh, I got somethings, hope you like them." Jake said, opening a fifth dimension pocket and pulling out a few poffins, "got them at my last stop." Jake pawed them over to Shadow and Terra. "Thanks?" Shadow said, confused as to why Jake handed him one. "If you guys want more I have tons of these things," Jake said. "Okay?" Shadow said questioningly, still a little confused. "Back to the lake?" Jake asked. "Sure, why not?" Terra responded. Shadow followed them. Terra straps herself into climbing gear and begins to scale the cliff, while Jake jumped from ledge to ledge. "Oh, uh, Shadow, how do you prefer to climb?" Terra asked. "I just rely on my claws." Shadow said, latching onto the cliffside and began to climb. "Okay," Terra said, continuing to climb. They soon reached a safe spot and rested. "Welcome to the crystal lake" Jake said, walking into the water. Terra jumped in, breaking the calm surface. Shadow followed quite quickly and dove under. "Okay," Jake said, sitting in the shallow end of the lake. Shadow swam up, lunging out of the water then taking a deep breath before diving back in, making a large splash, then went to the surface, "always nice to get a little wet." Shadow said, "I guess the love for swimming might be because my mother is a vaporeon." He whispered to himself. "Yeah, it is, and don't worry about Terra, likes being under the water like that," Jake said. "I guess that's another thing me and her have in common." Shadow laughed. "Yeah, but she stands on the bottom of the lake, confuses me on how she does it." Jake said. "Wow, that must take a lot of training, well if you exhale you sink, but inhale and you float, so I guess it's easier than it seems." Shadow said, "well anyways, I'm going back under." He said, diving back in. "Okay," Jake said, watching him go under. Shadow noticed Terra and gave a small wink then just swam around like he usually does whenever he's in deep water. Terra waved at him and darted to the surface, then sank again. He figured he'd try to do what she can do, and so he attempted it. Terra's paw's shone as the light hit them. She hit the bottom and layed down. Too bad it's impossible to speak underwater, otherwise I'd ask how she does it. He thought, he swam over to her and peeked his head over hers and smiled a little. Terra was visibly laughing, but didn't make a sound. What's she laughing about? He thought to himself. Terra moved out from under him and launched to the surface again. Shadow followed. "What were you laughing about?" He asked. "It tickled, that and you tried to stay on the bottom without using a steel move," Terra explained. "I figured if I had no breath I could sink to it." Shadow said. "While that does work, you can't survive on little oxygen for long," Terra said. "I survived longer than most, I was constantly suspended in a vat of sorts for a couple years." Shadow said. "Same," Terra said. "I guess we've both been through some shit haven't we?" He said swimming over to her. "Yeah, how do you think Jake evolved? He was caught in the crossfire of the meltdown," Terra said. "I'd bet those monsters intentionally caused the meltdown, see what the radiation would do to all the mon." Shadow responded. "Those monsters of humans left me with this." He said showing her his side and removing the illusion to show the scar. "That is gruesome, but I literally have a chunk of flesh missing, I would rather not show it, though." Terra said. Shadow put the illusion that there was no scar back on. "I understand." He said, gently kissing her forehead. Terra kissed back, "You don't have to worry about that anymore." "I know." Shadow said, smiling. I believe my stitches should be able to be removed next week if I recall correctly. Shadow thought to himself. "Plus with you evolving I'd bet the scar healed." Shadow said. "No, I checked, it's still there," Terra said. "Oh, oh well. I'd bet the fur covers it up anyways." Shadow said, "Anyways, I'd also lost my father to those humans, that's a scar that runs deep and can't fade." Shadow said solemnly, "Anyways, enough about that, it's all in the past, we all still have our futures." Shadow said, glancing at Jake for a moment. "Yeah." Terra said, getting out and laying on the rock. Jake was asleep. Shadow also got out. "May I join you?" He asked Terra. "Sure," She replied. Shadow lied up against her and nuzzled her. "You're very beautiful, ya know that?" Shadow complimented. "And you are handsome," Terra said. Shadow blushed a little at that then sighed in comfort as he lied his head against hers. Terra hummed as her breathing slowed. Shadow closed his eyes as he fealt the sun against his fur as well as her body being against his and the softness of her fur. Terra mumbled something in her sleep. Shadow wondered what it was but didn't bother trying to figure it out as he fell asleep.
An hour later...
Terra rolled over, waking up. Shadow remained sleeping but mumbled her name just loud enough for her to hear. Terra smiled and hugged him. He stirred and woke slowly. "Morning beautiful." Shadow said as he kissed her. Terra kissed back and said, "morning to you too, honey." "Imagine if Alita found out about us, I wonder how she'd react." Shadow chuckled at that image. "She would probably flip," Terra said, laughing at the thought. "This day's been great so far, thank you, I'll also be thanking your brother too when he wakes." Shadow said. Looking over, Terra saw that he was gone, "or not." "Where'd he run off to?" Shadow asked. Jake came around the path and froze, "I didn't expect you two to be awake yet." "what are you doing back there?" Terra asked, curious. "And why wouldn't we be awake yet?" Shadow asked. "Just wasn't expecting you two to be up, and it's not finished, the thing back there, just a little bit more, then it will be done, please don't look back there either." Jake said. "Is that directed to both of us? Because if it's just to her, then I can keep a secret." Shadow said with a dark grin. "To both of you," Jake clarified. "Okay." Shadow said, interested. "Maybe next time, okay?" Jake said, hearing their curiosity. "What do you mean by 'next time' like next time you come over?" Shadow asked. "Yeah," Jake answered. "Alright." Shadow said, his interest piqued. "Anyway, we should get you two home, it's getting late," Jake said. "It's only just about noon." Shadow said. "Does that look like noon to you?" Jake asked, pointing to the setting sun. "Note to self, my internal clock is off when I first wake." Shadow whispered to himself. "Anyway, let's get going," Jake said, jumping off the cliff. Terra put her climbing gear back on and began to descend the cliff face. Shadow jumped down and used the nearby trees' leaves as cushioning, landing on the tree branch without injury then jumped down from there. Jake was waiting, watching to make sure that Terra was safe. "Welp, we ready?" Shadow asked when Terra got to the bottom. Terra began to take the equipment off and put it away, "yeah." The trio began to walk to the house. "So Jake, do you usually join them for dinner when you visit?" Shadow asked. "Sometimes, I'll join you guys if you will have me," Jake said, looking at the other two. "Of course!" Shadow said. He held the door open for the two when they got to the house. "Thank you," Jake said, entering. Terra kissed Shadow as she went by. He kissed back then entered after them. "You're welcome." He said. "Oh, hey Jake, how've you been?" Alita asked the nucleon. Jake danced in place, showing he was good. "That's good, dinner is finishing up, so good timing you got there," Alita said. Shadow kind of disliked the little problem with his timing upon waking. Guess I gotta work on that. He thought. Alita smiled at Terra and Shadow, "and you two?" Alita asked. Shadow blushed a little and smiled. "Shadow, you aren't good at hiding your feelings, you are as red as a litten. So I'm assuming it went well, then?" Alita asked. Terra and Shadow nodded. "That's good, Shadow, how do you like Jake? I'm really thinking of letting him in the family, if he wants to, of course." Alita said. Shadow smiled and then looked at him. "Well, why don't ya? I'm sure your sister always misses you when you're gone." Shadow said. Jake didn't hear him, he was looking at Alita with stars in his eyes, tongue sticking out a little. "I guess we have our answer," Alita said, setting an empty RadBall down and went to check the food. Jake jumped at the ball and activated it, puting his name in on the pad. Shadow was excited to have a new member on the team, and clearly showed it by sniffing the pokeball. "I wouldn't touch this one if I were you, it's called a RadBall for a reason. It is radiated a little, it is harmful to you, but to me, not so much," Jake explained. Shadow went back over to Terra. "Wasn't going to touch it, I was just showing my excitement to have a new member on the team." Shadow said. "I know, I was just warning you of the ball's effects," Jake said, setting the ball on one of the stands in the living room. "Okay." Shadow said. Shadow made a kind of gesture to ask if dinner was ready yet. As if on cue, Alita called from the kitchen, "Dinner's ready." Firestar stood and shook ash from his pelt then went to the kitchen. Night came from the AR room and saw Jake. "Oh hey Jake, joining us for dinner?" Night asked. "Well... I'm part of the team now," Jake responded sheepishly. "No need to be sheepish about it!" Shadow said, heading into the kitchen with a pep in his step. "There is, if you knew how long I had been coming," Jake said. "Still, i'm happy to have you here," Night said, hugging Jake and dragging him to the kitchen talking to him at such a rate that it was impossible to tell what he was saying. Shadow was seated next to Terra as expected. "Glad to have a new member to the team, even if I just joined yesterday." Shadow said. "Yeah, and before you ask what you just saw, Night has had Jake as a role model for all fourteen years he has been visiting here," Terra explained. "Oh." Shadow said. "Anyways, wonder what Alita made this time." Shadow said. "I can smell it from here, it's chili." Terra said, going to the dining room off to the side of the Kitchen. "What's chili?" Shadow asked. "It's hard to describe, but it's sort of like spiced beans, but with more, y'know?" Terra asked, taking her place at the table. "No, I don't know." Shadow said. "I don't even know what spice is, Alita is the first trainer I've ever had so I probably won't know what most foods are." Shadow said. "True, but the stuff is good, even if it has a little tomato berry in it," Terra said. "TOMATO BERRY?!" Shadow asked, "Isn't that supposed to be the hottest berry that exists, you know, the berry that only fire types can stand?!" He exclaimed. "Raw, yes, but when it is cooked, for some reason, it gets a little sweeter, and she only uses one or two, according to Night, in the pot," Terra said. "So that's all according to Night? Or just the last part." Shadow asked. "Just the last part," Terra said, as she watched Alita plate the chili. "Okay." Shadow said, trusting she was being truthful about the first part. When everyone got their serving, Alita sat with her salad and said, "dig in." Terra took a bite and sighed, savoring the taste. Shadow reluctantly took a bite, after the first bite his face seemed to heat up and he reacted, never having anything spicy before, he wasn't able to handle it as well as most, and so he began to pant a bit. "Is there water anywhere around?" He asked. "Trust me, milk will help you more than water," Firestar said, getting Shadow a glass of milk. "I know what milk is but I don't think I should be drinking it at this age." Shadow said, thinking it was a different kind. Firestar sighed, "you really think we would have alcohol here with a trainer that isn't even of age?" He asked. "I never said alcohol, whatever that is." Shadow said. "It's safe to drink this, Shadow," Firestar said, handing him the glass of milk. "I don't think milk is okay to drink at this age, I am about 25 years old, not even close to the age of a kit." Shadow said. "The closest one to a kit here is your girlfriend-" Firestar was cut off by Night getting up and leaving. "At least he knows now. But still she doesn't seem to be about the age of a kit, either way, last I checked only kits are able to drink milk without any problems arising from doing so." Shadow said. "I said she was the closest here, unless you are younger than her, she's 18, you know," Firestar said.est." Firestar said. "Well I'm 25 years old, but still she's not a kit plus she clearly doesn't need anything to drink, now if you'll excuse me I'm going to go find something to drink that isn't age restricted for pokemon and humans: water." Shadow said, getting up. "Wait, there is no water around here except for the beach, and I don't feel like leaving the house just for water just to come back here and probably go back and forth." Shadow said. "My question to you, why would we have milk from a queen?" Firestar asked him. "What are you talking about now? Queens haven't existed since the medieval age, before I said as a joke you're probably going mad, but now I actually think you are." Shadow said. "I was using a foren term to call mother's, the tribe I came from calls mothers, queens." Firestar said. "Tribes? Tribes don't exist, there are no such things as tribes, you're probably not mad, you're probably crazy." Shadow said, "but yeah I don't know but you apparently do have that." Shadow said as he started looking for some water. "You don't know anything about me, so don't claim to," Firestar said. "I'm not claiming to, but still does this place not have any water?" Shadow asked, searching frantically, checking every cupboard he could reach on the ground level. "The sink," Terra told him. "What's a sink?" Shadow asked. "The metal basin up there in the counter. There is a spout coming from it." Terra said. "Oh." Shadow replied and jumped on the counter and used psychic to turn on the cold water and drank some of it then turned it back off. "Ahhh that's bet- AAA THAT'S EVEN WORSE!!!" Shadow exclaimed. "TOLD YOU," Firestar said from the fireplace in the living room.. "Maybe more will help, like a lot more." Shadow said to himself and drank a lot of it. "Ugh why isn't this helping?!" Shadow questioned, "I guess I'll just have to deal with it." He said and shut off the water then ate his chili. When he was done his face looked so red that he looked almost sick even though he wasn't and he was sweating. "How can something that tastes so good be so painful?" He asked no one in particular. "How is it spicy to you? Did you get both berries?" John asked Shadow, grabbing Night's bowl, seeing that Night left it.. "I've never had anything spicy before so it's going to affect me a lot." Shadow said. "Oh, okay, yeah," John said, finishing the bowl, "Hey Pyro, you going to finish," John asked Firestar. "You can have it, John." Firestar called. "Well I think imma go sweat it out." Shadow said, going to the living room, panting and lying on the couch. He was startled as he felt a weight on the other end of the couch, he looked and saw Alita sitting there. Shadow kind of crawled over to her and laid his head on one of her legs. "Hey bud, too much for you?" Alita asked, beginning to scratch behind his ears. He nodded as he smiled in comfort and closed his eyes, not falling asleep, just relaxing. Alita hugged him, "you are adorable, both on your own and with Terra," she said. Shadow smiled at the compliment, leaning into her. He felt comfortable, only showing signs that he's relaxed. Alita sighed and her breathing slowed, signaling that she was asleep. Shadow also fell asleep, now just laying against her in case Terra would come lie with him, that way she could lay by him easier. Terra came in and saw Alita and Shadow, then went to the firepit and whispered, "get the camera," Firestar shook the ash off and went to grab his camera from his room. He came back out with the camera and handed it to Terra, who promptly climbed onto the entertainment system and took a picture of Alita and Shadow, then pulled the picture up and showed it to Firestar, "what do you think?" Terra asked. "That is adorable," Firestar said, grabbing the camera from Terra and putting it up, passing out on his bed. Terra curled up next to Shadow and fell asleep.
