Chapter 17: Jack

In the morning, I woke up to snapping and snarling. My senses were on high alert as I sat directly up, glancing around.

The sound was gone, only two beaded red eyes stare at me from the dark. "Jack, what's wrong?"

Fucking Mark.. I growl in my mind before sighing. "Nothing, Mark. How'd you even get into my room?"

"Nobody could wake you up so they came to me..." He trails off, his eyes turning back to their normal shade of brown. He sighs, scratching behind his neck. "Just so you know we leave in a couple of minutes," and he exits the room.

I sigh, flopping back down on the bed. I was so not looking forward to another day of travelling.

========

The sun was high in the sky by the time we reached the city limit. Well, if you could even call it a city considering it's nothing more than abandoned or rundown small houses. Mark shifts to human form and sprinted around the corner.

"Mark, why are we running?" Felix asks as we all start to shift back to our human forms.

"Because I don't want one of Lady Celeste's pack mates  to know we are here." He responds, running around another corner with us hot on his heels.

After about a couple of minutes, Mark slows to a walk in front of a small cabin on the outskirts of the beat up small town. We all stop behind Mark while he knocked on the door. A couple of seconds later, the door opens and a small older lady appears. Her light brown eyes widen as she takes in who was standing in front of her.

"Mark?! What are you doing here?!" She rasps, frowning.

"Shannon, we need to talk, can we come in?" Shannon's grey eyebrows furrow as she frowns even more.

"We?" She asks. Mark nods, stepping a little bit, revealing the rest of us to her. She looks at all of us in surprise. Almost reluctantly, she steps back away from the door. "Come in. But you have a lot of explaining to do."

==========

"So that's why you guys are here?" Shannon asks, taking a sip of her sweet tea. Mark nods.
Shannon's eyes flash with hurt. "And you think a little old lady like me kidnapped your pack mates?"

"No, no, no," Mark says quickly. "This actually has nothing to do with you, in all honesty. This is actually about Lady Celeste instead."

"Ah," Shannon says, setting her cup of tea down on a old wooden coffee table next to her chair. "My little sister."

"Little sister?" I ask frowning. Mark shoots me a 'please be silent' glance and I reluctantly fell silent.

"What do you want to know about such a disgrace like her?" Shannon asks as if I had never even talked. Hearing those words come out of Shannon's mouth, I raised an eye brow and look at Eden. She simply shrugs and mouths to me to not ask.

"Well... I kinda want to know if anything weird has happened after a random guy tried to kill Bob?"

"A random guy try to kill Bob?" She asks in utter surprise. Mark frowns.

"That's what she told me. She said that some guy in a mask drove by and shot at Bob, killing Wade instead because Wade to the bullet." Mark's voice shook a little. I scoot closer to him and rest my hand reassuringly on top of his. He glances at me and smiles slightly, making my heart skip a beat. Shannon sits up a little straighter.

"Are you sure that's exactly what happened?" Mark frowns and I lace my hand with his, ignoring the weird glances from both of our pack mates.

"Yes... Well I don't know... I wasn't here," Mark squeezes my hand, trying not to let his pain show. Shannon shrugs.

"It must've been the reason that she abandoned her pack. I don't know."

"She what?!" Mark says in disbelief. Unfazed, Shannon shrugs again.

"She abandoned her pack. Said that she had more important things to take care of," she takes another sip of her tea. Mark and I both looked at each other.

"So, if you don't mind me asking, who's the new leader?" I ask. She shakes her head.

"I don't think you quite understand. She abandoned her pack. When an alpha does that, the pack mates become loners fending for themselves." I heard Alika and Eden gasp while the others mumble something incoherent.

However I was curious to know what "important things" she had to do that would lead her to abandon her pack. Nothing was making sense to me and as much as I don't want to believe it for Mark's sake, I'm starting to suspect Lady Celeste is involved somehow with our pack mates disappearances.
