Chapter 16: Mark

Throughout dinner, Eden and Dan have been giving me weird glances out of the corner of their eyes. I sigh, nibbling away quietly on a piece of lettuce. I didn't want to cause anything, especially not at a small diner. It would have to wait.

"Okay," I mutter as the three of us get into our small hotel room. Jack and his pack members got a different room. "Spill it you two!"

"Whaat?" Eden asks in surprise as she sets her bag on the bed and Dan does the same.

"You know what I'm talking about!"

"Actually no," Dan says, slipping off his shirt to change into a more comfortable one. "We don't know what you're talking about."

"The glances you two have been giving me at the table? Don't think I didn't see them."

"Glances..." Eden says, pulling out a pair of joggers. "Oooooh those glances!" Realization dawns on Dan as well.

"Well... You have been acting strange lately," Dan begins.

"And so has Jack!" Eden chimes.

"So... We were kinda wondering.." Dan and Eden both glance at each other, causing me to narrow my eyes.

"About?" I ask slowly.

"We were wondering if you left your mark on him?" Dan asks. I frown, utterly confused.

"What?" Both Eden and Dan sigh.

"Did you and Jack have..." Eden trails off.

"An argument? No." Dan face palms while Eden giggles.

"Oh my god, you're so innocent that it's just too funny sometimes Mark!" She giggles out before falling on her bed laughing.

"Lord, Jesus, whoever is listening right now..." Dan mutters. "Sex."

Sex? My eyes widen, my cheeks going a little red. Leaving my mark? Oh my god they were talking about sex this whole time? I'm so stupid!

"No!" I screamed. "God, no! Just... No!" Which only sent Eden and Dan into a hysterical fit of laughter.

"I told you so!" Eden says in between bursts of giggles. My face turns red.

"Why would you even think to ask me that?!" I growl as they came down from their laughing fit.

"Well it's quite obvious, ya know? That he likes you," Eden says, wiping tears from her eyes.

"Yeah, like I thought that he was going to tear that waitresses throat out back at the diner when she kept flirting with you," Dan says slipping a gray shirt over his head. "He isn't a complete asshole like he usually is at school."

"Dan, it's only been today that we all are travelling together as one pack instead of two."

"So?" He responds straightening his shirt out.

"People don't just change in a couple of hours," I said, searching through my bag for a pair of basketball shorts. "You're making your judgement too soon."

"Mark, give him a chance," Eden says. I jerk my head up.

"W-what do you mean?" I stutter, hoping my face isn't cherry red. Eden rolls her eyes.

"Mark, I've been your deputy for about as long as I can remember. So believe me when I say, I know when you love or hate someone. And I can tell that you are in love with Jack!" It was silent in the room for a couple of seconds before I responded.

"No, I do not love him." Dan zips his backpack up with force.

"Whatever Mark," he growls. "Keep telling yourself that. But my advice to you is, you might want to confess your love to him because who knows whether or not what day will be your last." I sigh.

"Okay... Suppose that I do... His parents arranged for him and Shelby to get married," Eden frowns at my statement.

"What? No they're not!" She exclaims. Now it was my turn to frown.

"Yes they are. Jack told me himself! Even his parents told him so!" Eden shakes her head again.

"Mark, I'm telling you that their parents never met to discuss marriage arrangements."

"How do you know this?" I ask, narrowing my eyes again at her.

"Because Shelby told me that she was getting married to Zachary, not Jack."
