Chapter 6
After we all filed inside, we sit around the living room as some of the pack stirs upstairs.
I sit on the big leather recliner, my father stands, and my brother sits on the couch, his head in his hands. Jace sits on the arm of the chair next to me, our shoulders resting against each other comfortably.
"We think his name is Mark Bennet." My father says, his big arms folded. "We followed his scent to the end of the territory, and asked the Rose Mountain's for help. They knew who he was, said they'd been on him for a while. Apparently he cuts through quite a few other territories often on his way to the back to the city. One of their scouts have followed him to the limits."
I raise an eye brow and rest my head on Jace's arm. " So what's that mean, do we know why he attacked us?"
My father shakes his head slowly, a tired gesture, an he passes a hand across his face. "I wish we knew. I'm thinking of taking Braxton with me to go hunt him down in the city, were he works."
"What's he do?" Zael asks from we're he leans against the wall, seemingly unconcerned with it.
My brother raises his head and sits back, lacing his fingers together behind him. "Arsenal dealing, as far as we know. The Rose Mountain's scout says he might be the leader of a gang too, of both weres and humans."
I shake my head, and sit up. "Should I come too?"
My bother shoots me a look that says, 'Oh hell no.' and my dad makes a similar face. "No. " They say together.
"Jace could protect me, be like a body guard or whatever you want, but I'm really curious. I might help in making finding him easier too."
"Go on." my father says, slowly lowering himself to the couch next to Braxton.
"If he found me once, maybe he can do it again, and it'd be even easier in his own territory."
My father sighs, just as Lucian comes down the stairs to stand in the living room.
"That isn't a bad idea." He says, pulling his golden hair back in a low rising ponytail. "Have Jace and Zael watch her."
My dad looks tired and not in the mood to argue.
"Having Zael there is just as good as having Brax with her. And you know I would never let anything hurt your daughter sir." I'm shocked that Jay would back this up.
"Maybe," my father says, looking over at Zael. "But he isn't here to be a body guard for my daughter. He is a guest."
Zael unfolds one of his arms to scratch his cheek. "I don't mind, I was getting a bit bored with nothing to do anyway."
It's ironic he says that when he could have been killed yesterday.
Luke stretches his arms above his head and yawns, muscles flexing. "So it's settled then?"
He wouldn't dare make it sound like he made the decision and disrespect my father.
My father looks at everyone in the room before looking me in the eyes, then at Jace and Zael. " Don't let him near her. Protect my little girl with your lives, or it will be yours."
Jace and Zael nod and say at the same time, " Yes sir."
I feel like I'm in an old movie, with knights swearing to protect me. It's strange, and I'm not too keen on the idea of having people risk dying for me. I may be the Alpha's daughter, but I'm not that important.
A few hours later, we make our way to the garage with our bags packed.
Luke hugs me good bye, and I kiss his cheek. "Be careful squirt." he whispers, and I nod against him.
"I will." I answer before pulling away.
He would have been more than happy to come, but someone has to be with the pack in my father's stead.
I wave good bye and slide into the passenger seat of my red 1970 Cavelle SS, my birthday present from my dad, we're Jace is already waiting in the drivers seat- black shades pulled over his blue eyes. "Ready, Angel?"
I look at the black camaro comes up beside us, and Zael nods at us through his tinted windows. He brought his own car when he came yesterday.
Jace looks at the black Audi r8 that Braxton and my dad are driving, and waits for him to lead.
I pull my ray bans out of the glove box, and put them on, reaching for the radio. Finding something loud and country, I turn it up to 10 and, leave it, rolling down my window.
Jace smiles and beeps the horn, at Zael following us, and he flips Jace the bird with a fond look, almost a smirk. Maybe he and Jace can get along after all.
The weather heated up around midday, and I'm glad I decided to wear shorts today, my my feet are a bit hot in my purple converse. I slip them off and pull my legs under me, and I turn the radio down, resting my back against the door to look at Jace.
"Something on your mind baby girl?" He asks, keeping his eyes on the road.
"Why did you back Luke earlier? I would have thought you wouldn't want Zael here."
He shrugs. " Don't get me wrong Belles, I don't hate the guy. I actually respect him in a sense, because he saved your life. The least I can do is tolerate him. And Luke was right, he's got some moves, and him being here is like having your brother here, with his Alpha blood and all."
I look out the window behind me, unfamiliar territory playing out like a movie on the other side of the glass as we speed down a near deserted highway.
"So long as he behaves." his voice holds more meaning than the one, and I shrug in response.
"I think he'll be a good boy." I say sarcastically. I move over next to him on the bench seat, leaning my back against him, before I turn the radio back up.
About half way on the 2 hour drive to the city, a silver mustang convertible pulls along our side out of a long, nearly hidden driveway, and pulls in front of us, along side my father's Audi.
"Your dad must have asked for that scout." Jace says, and I nod.
"Yeah, must be. " I mind link Braxton and ask him. "Yeah, Brax says his name's Dylan. He's the Rose Creek's scout."
Jase nods and rolls down the widows, my hair blowing around immediately. I crawl over to the passenger side, and sit with my feet up on the dash board, looking out at the car.
I mentally note the license plate's number, just in case, while singing to a song that came on.
This is gonna be fun!
