Chapter 4
Somewhere along the way back I must have fallen asleep, because I wake with a start.
I bolt up in my bed, and immediately regret it.
A pulsing pain shoots through my torso to my head, pushing me back to the comforter.
I must have made some sort if noise, because the figure siting by my bed stirs and sits up.
Unable to see who it is in the dimmed light of my bedroom, I have to rely on my nose.
I groan, and sit up slowly, having learned my lesson the first round. "Jace." I say, but it comes out just barely over a whisper.
"Yeah, Angel." The way says it in a reassuring way lets me relax into the pillows again. I don't even have to ask my question before Jay answers it. "Concussion, a handful of bruises and bites, and a broken rib."
I sigh and attempt to shake my head, but stop and wince. "Is everyone else okay?" My muscles ache in protest at every little movement.
He shrugs, and turns his head to look out my window at the dying light. "Fine, worried about you. Your father and brother have been checking in every few minutes and the packs all gathered down stairs waiting to make sure your alright."
"Well, aside from feeling like I was hit by a bus, I'm fantastic." I say sarcastically, then almost as an after thought, "I wish they wouldn't worry so much, I'm made of tougher stuff."
Jace leans forward, resting his forearms on his knees, lacing his fingers together and snorts in response. "I know you are."
The way the moon catches his skin, outlining and shading his features makes him look like a dark angel, along with the careful way he watches over me.
"I see that." I say, turning slows onto my side and propping my head up in my hand.
"See what?" he asks, looking back at me, the faint light glaring off of his eyes.
I motion for him to come here, and he does, kneeling next to my bed.
I pull his arm up next to me and lightly run my finger along the long, deep scratch that runs along the length of his hard bicep.
I feel him relax a bit at my touch, and his breath slows to a more shallow pace. "That." I say quietly. "And that." I bring my hand up to the bruise and cut above his eyebrow.
His lip is also split, but I don't dare go to extent of running my fingers over that. I know how teenage werewolves can get.
I hadn't realized he had his eyes closed until he opens them again when I take my hand away.
After a moment of simply staring at each other, he takes a deep breath.
" Did you see the way he looked at you?"
I tilt my head a bit to one side. "Who?"
"That strange wolf earlier today." Something in his voice makes me bite my lip.
"I hadn't noticed, only that he wanted to kill me. There was a strange intense hate... Or need, when he was in my face like that. "
He growls faintly. " That isn't what I got. "
I'm about to ask what he meant, but he gets up, and goes to stand by the window, moving the purple curtain back to look out.
" He's still out there some were." The ridged stance if his body, his back to me tells me he's stressed by this. "He must be a Rogue."
"Will you lay with me a while?" I ask, a bit hesitantly. "I just don't want to be alone right now, I'm still pretty shaken up." I'm not lying.
He half turns, and gives another glare out the window before shutting the curtains more tightly than necessary.
He stands at the foot of my bed for a moment before crawling in next to me, careful not to touch, in fear of causing me pain.
I take his hand and hold it in mine, and slowly turn on my other side to face him, letting my head fall softly into the pillows.
"Thank you." I whisper, letting my eyes close.
The last thing I remember before falling asleep are his words, "If I find him again, I swear, I'll kill him."

Sorry for the relatively short chapter loves, but thanks for the reads, and I hope you enjoyed! I'll try and hurry with the next one, and make it a bit longer while I'm at it!
