Chapter 3
I stand stunned for a moment, my brain soaking up the violent scene unfolding in front of me.
I'm soon jolted into action when yet another wolf jumps out from the brush to my left, lunging right at me.
I can tell before he leaps out that there is something different, very demanding about his presence, the type you can feel before you even see.
I move the the side quickly, but not as quickly as I should have, due to being shocked by the great power of the wolf. His enormous paw rips past my head, claws tearing the flesh of my neck as they graze by.
'He's an alpha for sure, but he's a young one, younger than father, and possibly stronger.' My wolf observes when we're out of his reach.
I bare my teeth at him, ducking my head and pricking my ears in the silent wolf language that tells him I don't fear him, which is definitely not one hundred percent true. But as an alpha to be, my wolf will not stand to be afraid, even to another alpha of such power.
The unknown alpha is a dark grey, not quite black with lighter grey tips on the ends of his fur, with burning, nearly black eyes. Those eyes, that are staring daggers into mine.
'Who could hate us so much?' my wolf asks, just as puzzled as me from the back of my mind.
Before I can answer, the enormous alpha lunges again, much quicker then I could ever be, and he clocks me in the side of the head- catching me off balance, I fall to my side.
I'm just about to climb back to my feet but I'm pressed back to the earth by his paws, landing in the dirt and pine needles on either side of my head.
A growl escapes my lips and my wolf snaps out at him, but he pulls his head up just high enough she can't reach.
He stares at me with those piercing eyes, like he's searching for something I can't see.
I continue to growl and snap my jaws at him, though I know it won't free us.
He looks like he wants to tell me something, but the hate returns to his eyes a second later and he bares his teeth, and snarls.
His growl drowns out the sound of mine easily, and I trade mine in for a yelp when his claws dig into the flesh of my shoulder.
I see Jace flinch at the noise from we're he's occupied with the other wolf who came at me from the corner of my eye, but there is nothing he can do for me now.
I growl again, refusing to let Jace see me in pain, and I snap at one the alpha's legs, turning my head just enough to get my jaws around it.
He growls loudly, and leans down to press his jaws into my neck, forcing me away from him and into the dirt.
My brain rattles at the force of the shove, but I stay silent, even as the world gets fuzzy.
If I'm going to die, I'm not going as a coward. Black spots my vision as I fight for another breath, my airway being squeezed shut slowly by the alpha's vice grip.
My breathing comes out as a wheezing of some sort, and I brace my legs, and with everything I've got left I shove as hard as my dwindling strength will allow.
He doesn't budge.
Shit. Well there went my brilliant idea. My vision is starting to black out completely, when the weight is lifted from me.
I suck the sweet air into my burning lungs greedily, and stay put for a few more seconds to catch my breath.
When I think I'm able enough to stand, I get up quickly, which was a big mistake. Pain shoots up into my head from my neck, and I attempt to shake it off, and push myself to my feet.
Zael is wrestling with the big alpha, and he surprisingly holds his own considering his young age.
Peering around there scuffling, I see the wolf he was fighting laying motionless in the dirt, his white fur matted with blood and grime.
I mind link my father and brother, being otherwise helpless due to my intense dizziness. If I were to try and help, I would only make it worse by getting in the way.
' We're being attacked at the west side boarder. Hurry, this alpha is different, daddy,'
I send one to my brother next.
'Find dad and follow him.' I feel him receive my instructions.
'Are you hurt, Belle?' he answers quickly.
'Just hurry.' I say shortly, then faze out and focus my attention back on the fight.
Jace is getting the job done, and gives a snarl before snapping the she wolf's neck. He makes sure she isn't moving ever again, then he darts over to me.
I bare my teeth at him, more at the pain shooting up from my neck and the burning in my cheek than at something he did.
'Help Zael. There's something really strange about this guy.'
I growl at the look he gives me. ' Just go, I'm alright!'
He nods after a moment and goes.
My father's huge black wolf lands in front of me a few moments later, just as I was about to get up to try and help the boys, who are struggling with the alpha.
My brother skids to a stop in front of me as my father knocks the alpha off of Jace and scuffles with him in the dirt, fighting to keep his position at the top.
'Belle, are you alright?' he asks with a worried expression, his green eyes darting around my face.
I nod slowly, keeping my gaze trained on the fight.
The alpha has my father down underneath him, snapping his jaws at him.
Zael tackles him off, and sinks his teeth into the alpha's shoulder.
I'm thinking I may have gotten a concussion when the alpha slammed my head back into the ground, or maybe when he smashed my head in by the way the world spins around me and how my head pounds terribly.
I decide I should probably say so, so it doesn't escalate to a worse stage or whatever concussions do, if I even have one.
'Braxton,' I think, looking back at him.
'Yeah?' he asks, standing over me protectively, keeping a trained and careful eye on the fight.
The look of concern in his eyes keeps from telling him. He already worries about me enough and doesn't need another thing to worry about.
'Never mind.' I say, looking back out at the brawl.
My dad has the alpha pinned, his teeth digging into his neck. Zael and Jace stand by closely, watching intensely. Jace steals a few glances at me, worry palpable in his expression, while Zael growls and keep his focus on the alpha.
I look up at my brother, a sudden thought dawning on me. 'He saved my life, Brax.'
He glances down at me. 'The kid?'
I stoop my head in a nod, and crawl out from under him to sit up on my own. I manage to stand, but have to sit shortly after due to the worlds tilting.
Brax's big, dark grey wolf watches me closely, and openly sends a message to dad so I can hear.
'I'm taking Belle back to the house. Do you need me here?'
My dad's huge head turns slightly to look at us, and answers. 'Go. We will be there shortly. Make sure she is looked aft-'
He's cut short when the alpha below him throws him off without a sound on his part. I realize he doesn't make much noise other than snarls and growls- never a whimper.
He moves in a swift and smooth movement, standing and looking straight at me, his black eyes burning.
He dodges Zael's attack, and swiftly turns and high tails it out of our territory. Zael is about to go after him, but my brother steps between him and the clearing were the alpha retreated.
'No. We will send a party out to check when we get back, but as of right now you all have injuries to be taken care of.' He says the last part with a glance in my direction. 'Are you okay to walk, Belle?'
I try to stand again, only to get the same result as before, and have to sit back down again. 'Don't think so.'
Zael gives a growl, then backs down. Even he must not be dumb enough to challenge my brother. Braxton is the same size as Zael, with every bit of muscle that he possesses.
Jace is at my side, an my brother and Zael check on my dad. He's alright to my relief, and looks back at the clearing with a deep growl.
My brother shifts, and comes out from behind the tree wearing a pair of loose jeans, probably a pair he had stashed in a log or trunk somewere, as we all do incase we have to shift for whatever reason.
He walks over and stoops to my level, and picks me up gently as to not to hurt, carrying me in his muscled arms.
