Chapter 11
He stays on us, and I flick my ears back to listen to his monstrous paws slamming against the dirt, but no more behind him. The other thugs from the hotel must have been human.
Dylan Is doing pretty well with keeping up with me, but his breathing in fairly labored.
I notice that Mark is keeping his distance, but I'm sure he could have caught us by now. Why is he staying so far away?
I glance over at Dylan, who hasn't seemed to notice, and his breathing is starting to concern me.
'How much farther?' I ask, acting tired so he doesn't feel weak.
'A few miles. Almost there.' he pants, his ears flicking back.
As we keep running, we near the boarder, but Mark seems to speed up more as we get closer. He doesn't want us to cross it.
Im about to say something to Dylan about it, but he trips, and falls, unable to catch himself.
I skirt around a tree in a u turn, and stand over him as Mark nears, his eyes glowing as he lowers his head, ears pricked.
I prick my ears back and growl, stepping in front of Dylan as he struggles to get up. He twisted his leg on a root that was jutting out of the ground.
He doesn't growl back, just stands and stares, stopping a foot away.
I stand tall, and continue to growl. 'If he takes a step close, I'm going for him.' I tell my wolf. She seems reluctant to attack, but she won't have a choice if I'm still in control.
'WHAT?' I scream through his mind link. 'Why won't you just reject me and leave my family alone!'
He says nothing, just stares. Being a female, I can't be the one to reject him. Yes, I know it's stupid and highly unfair.
I'm fuming at his stoic expressions, not caring that I'm screaming at him.
He takes a step forward.
I snarl, and lunge at him, true to my word. But to my surprise, instead of hitting him, I bounce of lamely and fall to the ground.
My neck tingles and burns in the spot he bit me during our first fight, and it dawns on me as I push myself off the ground, shaking dirt from my fur.
'That is why.' His voice is deep and thick in my mind, and I suppress a shiver. 'It was an accident. If that makes you feel any better.' He says. He knows it doesnt. 'Because I marked you, I can no longer kill you, or leave you alone. I do not want to reject you. Not yet.'
I growl and stand up, standing a few inches from his face, teeth bared. How dare he. Treating me like a peice of property he inherited but doesn't want, but is reluctant to throw away because it might be useful. 'Just, leave. Leave me alone. I don't want you, you don't want me.' I say angrily. I'm already sick of him.
He blinks stoically. 'I never said that.'
I snort and turn to leave. 'What's it matter to you of you leave? It won't hurt you any. You aren't the one who got marked by their insane mate.' I'm sure to put sarcasm into the word.
He touches me as I leave. Just a brush of our fur, but he must have known what it would do to me. I suddenly don't want him to leave. But thats insane. HE'S insane.
'I am far from it.'
If it wasn't for the hot breath on my fur, I may not have noticed Dylan's pack through the strong feeling my wolf feels for our mate. I hate her right now. How can she feel that way?
'How can you not?' she asks. 'he's our destined one. Its what fate decided for a reason.'
A strong, white wolf stands next to me, their head nearly reaching Mark's chin. Dylan's alpha.
He growls, holding his gaze with steady green eyes, and he steps between us, backing me up to the boarder.
Mark doesn't follow, but watches us for a moment before turning to leave, instead of attacking. He whispers to me through my mind link, making me shiver, as if his lips were next to my ear. 'I will find you again.'
I don't reply, and turn around once the alpha backed me far enough to cross the boarder.
Dylan whimpers and crouches, wagging his tail submissively at his alpha, and licks his chin, as If asking forgiveness for bringing me back with him.
His limp isn't as bad as I thought, I realize as he runs on the other side of me on the way back to their pack house, making look small between both of them. Dylan is nearly my size though, only a few inches taller.
A few other pack members had come with their alpha, who I remember my father calling Alexander, and they run a foot or two behind us respectfully. They must be able to sense the power in my blood. That, or they know who my father is.
One of them I saw help Dylan up, a female with a rich dark brown coat and blue grey eyes.
'My best friend' Dylan says, as we near the house, feeling my curiosity.
As we get closer, I see that it is a pretty house, maybe a bit larger then mine, painted a light shade of blue, with three tall pillars in the front, and a balcony on the third story, I assume it's Alexander's quarters.
Every one shifts but me, having no close to get into, and I pace in front of the porch, not knowing what to do with myself.
The girl who helped Dylan up, a pretty brunet with blue eyes, comes back out of the house door holding a pair of blue jeans and a tight, blue shirt.
I eye her and sniff the air, catching her scent and take a step forward.
"I hope your the same size is me." she says in a soft, unthreatening voice. "But you look pretty small, so I'm sure you'll fit."
I lower my head and wag my tail slowly at her kindness, as she sets the clothes down on the porch.
She seems flustered that someone of Alpha blood should bow to her, and she blushes."I promise not to let anyone look." she giggles, And I huff in response as she walks away, closing the door tightly.
I watch her shut the curtains firmly before I walk up to the porch and shift, changing into the cloths. They fit well, and smell like lavender and soap, the same as the girl's scent. I just finish slipping on the shirt when the door opens again, revealing Alpha Alexander.
I lower my gaze as I climb the porch in my bare feet slowly, and modestly stop in from of him. "Thank you for your help" I say softly, treating him with respect the way my father would want. His pack is one of our allies.
Alexander's handsome enough, and is around 30 or so, with pale, wheat colored hair and the same, clover green eyes. His voice as intimidating as his body, but not as much as my father's when he speaks, perhaps a little gravely. "Your father had contacted me. Dylan told me when you were near, and said you were having trouble. I've heard the rumors about who you are to that man."
I swallow and clench my fists a bit at the mention of my mate, but swallow the heat so not to be rude. "Yes. So have I sir." I decide to keep what I know a secret for now, from him at least. He has no reason to muddle in my business.
He makes a soft noise before opening the door wide, making a sweeping gesture that I should step inside.
I pass him meekly, into the big living room, and he shuts the door behind us.
The large, L shaped couch in the middle of the room rests on a big white carpet, the rest of the floor is a shiny, hard wood. A glass coffee table sits in front of the couch, a rearing horse statue sitting in the middle of it. A 100 inch flat screen TV sits against the far wall, all of which are painted an eggshell-ish color.
The girl with blue eyes stands from were she sat on the couch, Dylan at her side, an he puts a smile on his face.
"You look nice." he says, walking over with a slight limp, taking the girl's hand and leading her over. "This is my good friend, Cassidy. Cas, this is Annabelle, Alpha Alaric's daughter.
She smiles and sticks her free hand out, and I take it, shaking it softly. "Nice to meet you." We both say together, and Dylan, Cassidy and I laugh.
Alexander chuckles softly behind me, and moves to stand beside me, arms folded.
"Your father will arrive shortly." He informs me, giving a soft smile.
Braxton's POV
His stench is everywhere in this part of the woods, on the fringes of the Rose mountains territory. Him. That freak who's suppose to my baby sisters mate. I can't stand him.
We pass a creek, leaping over it on our way trough, I think I catch a flash of black fur in the corner of my eye, but I turn and it's gone. Bastards got me paranoid.
Jace runs next to me, Zael on the other side of my father. I'm still not sure what to think of the kid, but he took a knife for her, so has has my respect.
We near the pack house, and Mark's stench lingers still, like he's been here, but hasn't gone any closer to the house that my sister is in. He's stalking her. How is he not getting caught by this pack?
We share few words the time we were running, each of us captured in our own thoughts. I still worry about belle, even though alpha Alexander told my father she was safe with them. I feel like something bad could happen again soon.
We shift, and we all have a pair of Pants sitting on the porch, folded neatly. I pull on the black sweat pants, and when we're all dressed, we walk to the door.
Alexander opens it, Belle behind him, her face lighting up when she sees us.
She ducks under his arm, and hugs me tightly, not phased by the fact that were all half naked.
She goes to Dad next, and he wraps his arms around her tightly, like he was afraid he'd never get to see her again.
She backs up to look at him, a smile in her face and bumps into Jay, and laughs loudly, jumping on him, and he hugs her, holding her up in the air.
I might just be okay if they turned out as mates. I know at least that way Jace would treat her good.
Alexander clears his throat, and we all look up.
Zael is looking a little uncomfortable, being the only one who didn't receive a hug from my beautiful sister.
Alexander makes a motion that we should come in, and we take the invitation, letting Jace and Belle go in first.
Alex pulls my father to the side, saying something to him just quiet enough to muffle his words from me.
I can tell Zael was trying to listen too, by his sigh and the way he folds his arms across his bare chest when Father's voice is hushed.
He has a nice body for a kid, (no homo) even if he is only a few years younger then me. But I suppose his blood helps out with that.
Belle looks tense, and a little pale, and I eye her, tilting my head a bit.
I pull up a seat at the table, and sit across from her and Jay.
She glance up with her diamond blue eyes, and bites her lip, her cheeks flushed the slightest bit, and she plays with her hands.
"Belle." I say, and she looks up, dropping her hands.
She plays with her fingers on top of the table, chewing her lip. "I can't tell you guys. Not here. When we get back, and we're alone." she says in a hushed voice, leaning back in her chair as my father and Alexander enter.
"Alpha Alexander has been so nice as to send some of his pack to retrieve our vehicles from the city parking garage." Father says, pulling a chair out to sit.
I smell the pack members of the house, but there aren't any to be seen. Even Dylan had disappeared.
They must have left to give us our privacy with their alpha.
I nod at Alexander. "Thank you." I say respectively, meeting his eyes to show that though I respect him, I won't let him disrespect me in return.
He nods formally and stands beside my father, his face serious as he looks at my sister.
She had whiped her face of stressful emotions, and smiles at him like an innocent child. "Thank you Alpha Alexander." she says cheerfully. "Please tell the person driving my Chavelle to be careful wih my baby, I just got her paint job done."
He gives a half smile. "Of corse."
