Harley dropped me off back at my house soon after we talked about our fears. He seemed a little uneasy about something so he left quickly. My dad seemed to like the fact that I got home earlier than expected. Mom and him call me into his office as soon as I change out of my party outfit.

"You called?" I say as I enter his office. He's sitting in his large chair, and she sits on the small love sofa in the corner of the office.

"Have a seat, Ember," my beautiful mother says gently. I raise an eyebrow but sit down next to her. Up close, you can see the toll of her role as Luna and a mother, but even then, she's stunning- wrinkles and all.

"Did I do something wrong?" I ask. They exchange knowing glances, "I even came home early you know."

"You didn't do anything wrong, dear," mom rests a soft hand on my shoulder. I relax a little.

"What's this about then?"

"Well, you know that Moon Day is coming up very soon," my dad emphasises the word very. It's tomorrow.

Moon Day is our celebration of the Moon Goddess and all of the blessings she will grant us in the coming year. It's also known for young wolves being assigned their first jobs, which is finally my age group. Only thing is, I won't be apart of the ceremony.

"And your age group will be partaking in job assignments," he continues slowly.

"I already know, dad," I cut him off, standing up, "I won't be allowed to join the work force. Well, at least a job that I care about."

"Let your father finish," mom gently pulls me back down to sitting next to her.

"Everest's age group will be allowed to venture into the human world and make the decision of staying or leaving," he's dragging this out at this point.

Along with job assignments, the next age group up gets to go into the human world. They'll be provided with shelter, a little money, and IDs. Everest obviously isn't allowed to go considering he's next in line for Alpha.

"Well, your mother and I feel as if I've been too strict with you and your brother. We feel as if you should be old enough to make rational decisions on your own, so you both will be allowed to participate in the ceremonies," my dad finishes with a proud smile. Mom grabs my hand and pulls me to stand with her.

"This is your chance, sweetheart, go make something of yourself," she smiles. I can see through it. All of it. They're terrified.

"Seriously? Are you actually letting me do this?" my voice is starting to raise. They smile and nod. I start jumping up and down, crying and shrieking in joy. "Thank you!"

"Only thing is," my dad interrupts my fit. I fall still and listen to the catch, "you and Everest will willingly participate in the Alpha, Luna, Beta and Family Service. You will dress in the proper getup and will be respectful and listen to the presentation."

The 'Alpha, Luna, Beta and Family Service', or 'ALBFS' as we called it back in school, is a service held every year the morning of Moon Day. It honors past Alphas, Lunas and the Betas. It is definitely the most boring part of Moon Day festivities. I usually try to find a way out of it, but I suppose I have to go this year. All eyes will be on Everest because he will be becoming Alpha in a little over a year- if he returns from the human world trip that is.

"Okay fine. Good luck convincing Everest though,"I try to shrug it off but he smirks.

"Everest already agreed to it," he shakes his head and smiles at me. My mouth drops open. They talked to Everest before me?

"Wow okay. I guess I'll just be on my way then because he's clearly the favorite child," I say dramatically. Mom throws her arms around me and kisses my forehead.

"Oh my baby is growing up so fast!" she cries as I struggle against her tight grasp. She continues to shower my forehead in kisses, causing me to giggle and shove her off me. Her eyes fill with tears as she looks at me. She slowly lets go of me and smiles sadly. "I wish you were still just my little baby," she whispers.

"Don't worry, mom. We'll be fine," I reassure her. My dad nods his head, my mom pulls me into another hug. She releases me and finally dismisses me.

I rush out of the office, looking for my best friend, Axel. I spy him in his room and he looks to not be doing anything. I knock on the door lightly and enter. He sees me, and slams his laptop closed and sits up in his bed, looking nervous.

"Ember, hey," he says, rubbing the back of his neck, smiling uneasily.

"Are you okay Axel?" I lean against the door frame and smirk. He glances away and nods.

"Of course, why wouldn't I be?" he stays planted in the bed and clears his throat. "So um, whats up?"

"Do you need a minute?" I hold back my giggles as he continues to sweat with anxiety. He nods quickly as I exit the room.

After several minutes of waiting outside his door, it creaks open and a fully clothed and less nervous Axel appears.

"Come on in," he gestures for me to follow him into the room. I follow him and sit on his bean bag chair in the middle of his room. He sits on the bed again and waits for me to speak.

"I'm allowed to participate in the job assignment ceremony," I say quickly. He shoots up, smiling.

"Really? That's amazing, Em!" he pulls me up by the hand, into a tight hug. I fall into his hug, smiling widely.

"I know! I'm so excited, except," I pause. He slowly lets go and takes a small step back, concerned, "I have to participate in ALBFS, willingly."

"That's not too bad," he shrugs. I nod, sitting back down. "But, that's really awesome Em. I'm happy for you."

"Thanks, Axel. I really hope I get the warrior position, border control at least," I glance at the floor and frown. I hear him move towards me. He kneels in front of me. We make steady eye contact as he leans towards me. My heart rate spikes as I feel his hand rest on my neck, pulling me towards him.

Suddenly, his lips are on mine and I'm kissing him back. Our lips move quickly against each other. He quickly pulls away, panting and cussing.

"You have a boyfriend," he says quietly, standing back up, and cussing more. I bring my fingers up to my lips, feeling the unfamiliar sting. He looks back at me with such intensity. "I'm sorry."

"Don't be sorry," I whisper, dropping my hand to my side. I glance away, looking at the floor. What is Harley going to say if he finds out?

"No, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that. You have Harley. I'm so sorry. I screwed everything up, sorry," he drops onto the bed, head in his hands. I stand up and slowly approach his hunched over body. I sit next to him, placing my hand on his thigh lightly. He glances over at me, his eyes turning dark.

"It's okay," I say quietly, but firmly. My hand stays still on his warm thigh as he glances down at it. His gaze slowly rises back up to my face as he mutters something.

"Screw it," and suddenly, we're kissing with no intent of stopping this time.
