Chapter 14
"What game is Hellion playing at?" Elena wondered.
He wouldn't give valuable information away this easily. Knowing him, it was part of his complex plan to fool and lure her into a false sense of security. Still, she had to warn the others and hope that they could figure out a course of action. It was the only thing to do in a time like this. One wrong turn could destroy their progress. She pulled out her phone and dialed Isabella's number. Even though it was midnight, Elena knew she could count on her being awake.
Isabella picked up on the first ring, immediately bombarding her with questions, "Did you find something?"
"Not exactly. I'll teleport you to my office and will explain further."
Elena then passed on the same message to Oliver and Miranda. Quickly, everyone was joined together in the office. Dark circles were plastered under Miranda's eyelids as she struggled to stay awake. Oliver's appearance wasn't much better. His hair stuck out in every direction and a Batman bathrobe was wrapped around him. This drastically contrasted with Isabella's style, consisting of black jeans and a blue sweater. A heavy silence fell upon the room as they waited for Elena to speak.
Instead, Oliver decided to break it, "What's so important that you couldn't have just told us tomorrow morning? At least by then I would have had a few cups of coffee."
"Justice never sleeps," Elena retorted.
"Yeah, but normal people like us do."
"Maybe some, more than others, don't take our situation with enough seriousness. We signed up for this when agreeing to beat Hellion and can be ready in a moments' notice," Isabella interrupted.
She avoided making eye contact with him.
"That's a really beautiful speech. Are you working to be a motivational speaker? These are limited edition pajamas. Don't be a hater. I already have enough of those," Oliver fired back.
Isabella laughed at the thought.
She looked Oliver straight in the eyes and exclaimed, "I'm not a hater, Batman wannabe."
"I should be flattered. He is the coolest superhero of all time!"
"That's where you're wrong: Wonder Woman is."
"She's the only superhero woman drawn in comic books. Obviously, you would pick that piece of trash out of all the others.
"That's it."
Isabella lunged forward to tackle him, but Miranda blocked her way. She was prepared to grab Isabella's wrists when she refused to back down. Miranda finally let go and Isabella stumbled back.
"This is stupid. I'm sorry that I lost myself for a second," Isabella sighed.
"It's fine," Miranda claimed, unfazed by her sudden outburst.
"Thanks to your little argument, I think we've waited long enough," Elena stated impatiently.
She explained everything from Leah's unexpected visit to the letter.
"Based on the current events, how do you think we should approach this?"
"Is this question a test to see what we know?" Isabella thought.
"There's no harm in confronting him or her and see who Hellion has been keeping from us," Miranda suggested.
"True, but only two of us should go. If we all show up at the club, it will look suspicious and the person could leave without us knowing," Oliver added.
"You can make decent remarks in that superficial mind of yours?" Isabella said.
"Be nice. I've already explained that each of you have a different ability. If you underestimate the others powers then that can tear this team apart. Only by working together can we accomplish something. Try your best to stay professional or you'll be out of this group in the blink of an eye," Elena warned.
"Alright," Isabella surrendered.
Since Miranda came up with the idea, she will pick who accompanies her to the Electric Butterfly. Whoever isn't chosen, remains here with me until they come back.
Miranda looked in between Isabella and Oliver before making her choice.
"Want to come with me, Isabella?"
"Yes."
"Okay, you two will need to be equipped with a couple of firearms and some combat training incase this is a trap. Follow me to the weapons' area."
Before walking into another room of their headquarters, Elena clarified over her shoulder, "You can't tell anyone about this mission or show them these weapons. It could ruin our chances of recruiting the last member. Isabella and Miranda, you must return to my office after school tomorrow for combat lessons."
Everyone nodded in agreement. She smiled then fumbled for a light switch in an obscure room. When it flickered on, Elena ushered them inside.
"Welcome to my Hall of Weaponry!"
Hundreds of rifles lined the bullet proof room while smoke grenades and sharp knives were sorted into three separate baskets. Each displayed a different size and shape. Elena examined it with pride. Miranda looked on, her mouth falling open in shock.
"No matter what happens tomorrow night, they won't know what hit them," she remarked.
