Chapter 13

Elena had decided to send Isabella, Miranda, and Oliver home for the rest of the day. She promised to call them once obtaining more information on their final member.

Three days passed with no word from Elena. The hours dragged on as Isabella waited anxiously by her phone for an update. Elena searched everywhere for the file, but still seemed to have misplaced it. While busy sorting through the papers on her desk, Leah Hallows entered the front door.

"Is anyone around?"

Leah used to be a messenger for supernatural beings in Purgatory. She transported letters between each villain and never failed a delivery. After her daring escape from there, however, Leah was stripped of her duty and the stolen key that alternates to different realms. Elena would be more than happy to send the girl back to where she belongs, but there was no proof of her harm on Earth. An action inflicted by the accused had to happen in the universe Leah was present in before brutal punishments could occur. This was devised to prevent bias against a loathed criminal and keep both realms in order.

"Yes, over here," Elena responded.

She ushered for her to come over, keeping an eye on the expensive objects around the room. With each step, the girl's platinum blonde hair and pale complexion shined in the light. Leah was dressed in a worn-out pair of jean shorts and long sleeve shirt.

"What did you come for? Another look at the freedom you can't have?"

A sarcastic smile formed on her lips.

"Freedom? That place was nothing short of a mess. People took away everything valuable to my friends and I."

"If you have enough trust in them for such a title. Criminals will always be criminals. You can't change their behavior."

"My personal life is none of your business. Although, I believe this concerns you."

Leah handed over an envelope with a red seal on the back.

Elena put it on the table and stated skeptically, "I thought you didn't deliver messages anymore. Much less score a job on Earth."

She knew how to push Leah's buttons and underestimating her abilities was one of them.

Leah took a deep breath, replying calmly, "And you don't have to accept a letter from your brother. It's not my obligation to make you think differently. Whatever choices I must deal with reside on my own terms."

"Why reach out now of all the centuries he's been quiet?"

"I don't know. May I remind you that this isn't a family affair I'm involved with?"

"Okay, you make a convincing argument."

Elena opened the envelope cautiously. The paper seemed slightly yellow at the edges,

"Dear Sister,

I understand that you're searching for the final member to your little army. While I might not be able to give away the file, I can still give a hint of his location. Come to the Electric Butterfly Bar on Berkley Street at eight o'clock tomorrow night. There, you will find him wearing a red hoodie. You can thank me later even though I assume you won't."

From,

Daniel"

"He can't possibly expect me to play by his rules, right?"

She looked up to receive an answer but was found talking to herself. Leah had left while she was reading the letter.
