Dear Diary,
I burst into the house like a destructive whirlwind on a mission.
"Jo!" Luna screeched after me as I threw myself through the back door and pummelled down the hall. "You didn't shake off your clothes! There's sand everywhere!"
"Sorry, Luna!" I called over my shoulder as I scrambled around for the front door-knob. "Not the time!"
Flinging it open, I rushed down the stairs, coming face-to-face with an anxious, pale Spencer who was leaning against the side of her parked Lamborghini.
I hurried over to her and grabbed her shoulders. "Spence. What did you find? Is it bad?"
Spencer bit her lip as she cast a worried glance over my head. "We can't talk. Not here. My car. C'mon."
I nodded and promptly slipped into the passenger side of the vehicle.
As Spencer backed out of the driveway, I turned around in my seat and raised my eyebrows at her. "What's wrong with Barbie Doll?"
"Look in the glove box," she responded simply.
With a frown, I pulled open the compartment only to let out a frightened yell. "Spencer!" I screamed. "That's a gun! You have a gun in your car!"
"Say it a little louder, why don't you?" she frowned at me as she pulled out onto the road bypassing my father's house.
I sat back in shock, staring at the bagged weapon in disbelief. "Where the hell did you find that?"
"In Miss Barbie's hand-bag," she returned. "She accidentally left it in the foyer before going out with Lane for lunch. I got to it just in time."
"Spencer!" I yelped. "You shouldn't have taken it!"
"What and let her use it on Lane?" she scoffed. "I don't think so. I have to get rid of it. I'm throwing it into the ocean and I need you to cover for me."
I sighed. "You could get into trouble for this, Spence. Your prints will be all over it!"
"Nope," Spencer shook her head. "I picked it up with a plastic bag. The only prints the cops are gonna find on there are Andrea's ... that is, if they find it."
"I can't believe it," I murmured. "What? How? Why?"
"That's what I wanna know," Spencer replied soberly. "There's something else too."
"Something else?"
"Yep. Take a look at this," Spencer pulled her car over on the side of the road and waited until the row of vehicles behind her had dispersed before reaching a gloved hand into her front pocket. She pulled out a black leather wallet lined with cards, identification papers and bills. She pulled out a bright blue and yellow license card and practically shoved it in my face.
I furrowed my brow as I took it from her and turned it over.
M r s. S a b r i n a L a h a r t.
"This Miss Andrea Melcox doesn't even exist!" Spencer cried. "She's using someone else's name! And she's a missus! Which means that she's married! Or, at least, has been."
"Did you find this in her bag as well?" I queried as I examined the license.
Spencer nodded. "Yes. I know it's hers. Look at her picture. She looks exactly the same. Only her hair's a little shorter than it is now."
A huge lump rose up in my throat. "We have to tell Lane."
Spencer shook her head. "I thought about that but I'm sure Miss Barbie has a good story to back this up and who do you think Lane's gonna believe, huh?"
"She has a gun, Spence!" I exclaimed, horrified. "I think that's enough to rebuff her story, whatever it is."
Spencer swallowed. "Look. If she has a false identity and a flaming gun, I'm one hundred percent sure that she's out to hurt someone, okay? Whether it be Lane or you or me, I don't trust her. If we tell Lane, she could try and do something - something bad. That's not a risk we can afford to take, Jo."
"Why would she do this?" I whispered with a shake of my head.
"It's pretty obvious," Spencer rolled her eyes. "She wants your Dad's money."
"This is bad. This is really, really bad."
"I know. What do we do? We can't tell Lane and we can't confront Andrea or Sabrina or whatever her name is."
Suddenly, an idea popped into my mind. A sly smirk found its way to my lips as I exchanged a look with Spencer. "I think I know someone who might be able to help us."
"Who?"
"Tiffany."
