Dear Diary,
"So, are we agreed then? From now on, we'll keep a close eye on this Miss Andrea Melcox and try to pull up any dirt on her. I'm sure Lane won't be too pleased when he finds out she's just a ditzy little gold bugger."
I raised my eyebrows as I stared disbelievingly at Spencer who was crowding my room with all sorts of papers, pens and gadgets. "You really had to bring all this stuff in here?"
"Of course!" she giggled from her sprawled position on the floor. "Nothing exciting has happened at all this year and I want to make something of this Miss Extraordinaire. She's going to be your step-mother soon and she's bringing a daughter to the table. I'm sure you don't want to get involved with all that nonsense and besides I like my uncle. I don't want him mixing with the wrong crowd. He might get hurt. So are you with me or not?"
I rolled my eyes at her as I nodded. "Fine."
"Pinky promise?" Spencer quirked as she held out her hand.
"Pinky promise," I chuckled as I stooped down and linked my finger with hers.
"Now, let's get cracking. We need to think of some cool spy names to call ourselves."
At this, I couldn't help but laugh.
Spencer was such a dork.
That evening, I snuggled beneath my soft, feather-filled comforter for the first time and tried to relax against the starched sheets that brushed against my bare skin. As I lay there, staring up at the ceiling, my mind wandered back to the boy from the surf shop that I had met earlier that day.
Who was he?
Maybe Spencer would know.

I was unceremoniously awoken the next day by Spencer rushing into my room and throwing her body weight onto my bed.
"Wha...?" I growled as I poked my head out of my pile of blankets and glared at her. "What are you doing here so early in the morning?"
"Early? Huh. It's nine o'clock," Spencer raised her gaze heavenwards before preceding to strip my warm covers off. "C'mon. C'mon. Get up! Today, I'm taking you out and we're going shopping and having a nice brunch in this cute little diner down the road and we can walk along the beach and go to my favourite surf shop and..."
"Wait!" I threw up my hand, stopping her mid-sentence. "We're going to that surf shop? Again?"
"Again?" Spencer raised her eyebrows quizzically at me. "What do you mean? Have you gone there already?"
I hesitated as I contemplated my reply. "Uh...no, no, of course not. I took a walk yesterday and passed by but that's all, that's definitely all."
Spencer shot me a weird look as she pinched me on the arm.
"Ouch!" I howled. "What was that for?"
"The air is fresh, the morning is new and the sun is up! Let's go, Sleuth Sister!" she yelled as she bounded across the carpeted floor of my bedroom.
"Sleuth Sister? The hell?" I frowned at her as I pulled myself up into a sitting position and rubbed tiredly at my eyes.
"Yeah. The Sleuth Sisters. That's our code name," she sang out as she did a little twirl right in front of my mirror.
"Oh my god. I hate you so much right now," I groaned.
"Grouchy-puss," Spencer stuck her tongue out at me as she darted out the door. "Hurry up!" she shouted from down the hallway.
I sighed and buried my face in my pillow.
Did I really have to face the Miss freakin Andrea and that angry boy again?
I wished the answer was no.
