Being in the military is going to be a stressful experience for anyone.
But for Taemin, he was having a significantly harder time adjusting.
Being apart from his members was difficult. So much so that he dreamed every night of being back home with them.
Tonight was no different.
He woke up in a sweat, in the same familiar room he had grown to know.
"Still here...", he whispered.
He laid back down, tears prickling in his eyes.
His members always comforted him when he had nightmares, or when he just couldn't sleep.
But they weren't here.
"I want to go home...", he whispered again,"Please hyungs...take me back home..."
He let the tears flow over into his pillow.
The quiet sobs were only heard by him in the dark room which he slept.
Trying his best to fall back asleep, he pulled his blankets closer, completely covering himself.
"Hey, Lee, you alright down there?"
Taemin took his blanket off.
The man laying in the bunk above him was looking over the side.
"I-i'm okay."
"Are you crying? It's too late at night to be sad."
Taemin slightly laughed.
"You miss your hyungs don't you?", he asked.
"I do. I miss their hugs...I miss the way they greeted me every morning..."
"I understand. I miss my hyungs too. I know we're different people from different walks of life...but why don't we share stories to make each other feel better?"
Taemin looked up at the man.
His uniform hung on the side of his bed, and the name tag barely glinted in the moonlight with the name "Park M."
"Sure..."
"I'm the youngest of three boys. What about your hyungs?"
"I'm the youngest member of Shinee."
"Yeah, my family are huge fans. Wait until I tell my brothers I shared an emotional 3am talk with Lee Taemin."
"Hehehe."
"There's the laugh. Well, my brothers are very protective. They always make sure to check on me, support me in whatever I do, and all that stuff."
"Same here. My hyungs always cared for me. And being away from them...not feeling that love..."
Taemin began to cry again, covering his face with the blanket.
"It's okay Taemin. Look, it's going to get a lot better. Before you know it, you'll be out of here."
"I hope so. Not because I don't want to serve. I do. But I never realized it would hurt me this much to be away from them."
"I know how you feel. My brothers and I argued a lot. But I still love them. I told my oldest brother that I couldn't wait to go to the military so I could come back and fist fight him on the daily."
"Your family sounds fun."
"They are. So no need to cry. Try to look forward to something. Like...your music."
"My music?"
"Imagine what it'll feel like. Making music with your hyungs after leaving here."
Taemin looked at the ceiling.
He smiled at the thought of making music with them all again. With everyone.
"It's the best feeling."
"Of course it is. There's no better feeling than the love you get from family who cares. Regardless of blood relation."
"You're right..."
"I know you're sad. I am too. But while we're in here, let's cry together, so we can be a little less alone."
Taemin looked up at him again.
"Thank you.", he said, wiping his eyes.
"You're welcome. Anytime. Just maybe not at 3am anymore."
