Review on Before Sixteen

By the end of the first chapter, I was already drawn into the crazy world at Empire High School. The writer effectively used suspense to keep the reader guessing and drawn to the main character. For the first time in a long time, I couldn’t successfully predict what was going to happen next. The writer also displayed a good command of the English Language as displayed in their spelling and punctuation. It was refreshing to read a Nigerian High School story that wasn’t cliché and unnecessarily dragged out. The cover was beautiful and illustrated the pain felt by the main character perfectly. The development of the main character was something the reader could notice by the fifth chapter and did not feel rushed. This is definitely a book I would recommend to others. -Madelaine Akinyemi
