8-Fairy World
Locket zipped near Fernando's Fairy Treats. Fairy-sized rainbow cookies were her absolute favorite. Like hummingbirds fairies burn up an awful lot of calories. (Eating whatever you like is one of the many perks of being a fairy.)
After gobbling up the gooey chocolatey rainbow goodness she flew near the Fairy Library to see if the book, The Unfair Fairy, had come in. Late at night, Locket loved to zip to the tippy top of the tallest pine tree and read by her own glowing blue light. With the piney scent, and her radiant light, every night reminded her of Christmas night.
Silent night, holy night, all is calm... all is bright...
Fairies rarely get upset. Oh, they can create a great deal of upset in others, however they know: time heals everything and this too shall pass. Why be sad or mad when being joyful and forgiving is much more fun? Fairies choose fun!
Fairy World is unlike any place on Earth. Sure it's magically wonderful and the weather's always nice. (It never rains--it dews.) But that's not what makes it ultra special—it's in another dimension entirely.
Fairies aren't subjected to earthly dates and times. Time is much slower in their realm enabling them to live 1000's of years. Of course it takes much longer for a fairy to be born, 26 Earth years-- to be exact. Can you imagine a fairy giving birth to a fairy? It's spectacular! It's like the sun giving birth to a star!
When fairies are born all you see is a spec of colored light. Fairies come in all sorts of colors. Colors earthlings can't even see yet! A Myriad of blues, pinks, purples, greens, reds, oranges, yellows... In fact no two fairies are ever the same color. Well to the human eye they might appear as glowing blue, but in Fairy World no two blues are the same shade. Take the 64 count Crayola crayon box and multiply it by infinity!
At the celebration of a birth, fairies of every shade gather for the fanciest gala imaginable. Rainbow cotton candy, cupcakes, cookies, fairy fritters, and fruit pies galore swirl in mid air. Like elves, fairies love to bake therefore some of the goodies are handmade while others are fairy-imagined.
It's a colorfest of epic proportions. Fairies with fiddles, fifes and flutes play enchanting music while edible fairy dust glitters endlessly. By the end of the night all of the fairies are dancing on air!
Of course it's quite dangerous for fairies to put all their light and magic together in one place. It's like throwing out a bright beacon into the universe. Darkness hates light. Evil hates what it's not. If the Fairy Queen blows her shofar in three short bursts it's a warning: Fairies scatter!
For centuries fairies have been hunted by evil lords of the underworld. These have one soul purpose: fairy-genocide. Over a century ago evil almost triumphed. Thousands of fairies died. The rest were forced to leave their realm and seek asylum elsewhere. Slowly, the fairies who survived returned their world and reimagined a new and more secure home.
The Fairy Queen just so happened to be Locket's mother. (No pressure there!) She was chosen due to her kind heart, her unique gifts and her servant-leadership qualities. Locket would be a shoe in for the throne if she could stay focused and hone her abilities. However, Locket was born with ADHD: Always doing; hardly discerning. Which means she rarely thinks before she acts.
Locket has a lot to prove. She made her first ever human pick: Peep. She was certain he'd help save not only the fairies but other fantastical worlds as well. Most humans only believe in what they can see but not Peep!
Locket told her mother, "Peep is brave, kind, cute, imaginative, artistic... Not only does he walk to his own beat—he invents new ones!"
"Yes Locket..." her queen-mother spoke, "You've extolled his virtues to me many times but you've also told me he's very precocious, only 8 years young and he's extremely messy."
Locket protested, "I'd rather have messy with daring faith then neat as a pin without any determination or vision!"
The gleaming violet Fairy Queen brushed Locket's azure blue locks while giving her motherly advice, "Remember to slow down Locket. Mistakes are made when we act before we think. Take a pause before you respond."
Locket took the tiny silver brush with its petal soft white bristles from her mother. She flew to the top of the flower palace. Using the brush as a scepter she declared, "With this enchanted scepter I declare Peep to be the perfect fairy pick ever!" *Poof* The hairbrush turned into a mighty silver scepter! The weight of it dragged Locket swiftly to the ground.
Her mother shouted, "Locket let go! You're going to crash!"
Just as Locket was about to go SPLAT she let go of the enchanted scepter. Crash! Clang! Crackkkk! The much too heavy silver scepter shattered the palace's pink marble floor.
Locket exclaimed, "Sorry mother!"
The queen floated down to Locket. "Daughter are you alright?"
Locket shed a few blue tears. "Yes but... The floor!" Then she blubbered big crocodile blue tears.
Her mother remained calm. "It's alright Locket. Floors can be fixed. You, my dear, are one of a kind."
Locket grabbed her pudgy purple mother about the waist and sobbed onto her shoulder.
"There there daughter... You are safe." The queen rubbed her thumb and forefinger together and at once the fractured pink marble floor was better than new and the silver brush returned to its natural state.
Locket sniffled, "Oh mother will I ever be as good a fairy as you?"
"No," her mother chided.
Locket's blue eyes grew wide, "No?"
The fairy queen answered, "No, you won't be as good as me. I suspect you'll be better!"
Locket squealed and hugged her fairy mother and kissed both of her round violet cheeks. "I promise mother, I'll be the best fairy ever!"
"I'm counting on you daughter."
Together they sang a fairy hymn:
Small in numbers, small in size
Seeing the worlds through fairy eyes
There is more to life than what you see
If you believe in fairy dreams
